Finally pulling the trigger on a new, 17” bandsaw for my larger jewelry box line shaped like the instruments I build, I had to wait a few weeks for my saw. Finally arriving at my day job for unloading, crate and all were carefully inserted onto skids into my Chevy Suburban by 6 guys so I could take it home. Friday the 13th of July I carefully slid it out with the help of my John Deere and some oak ramps, and carefully soon had it upright, unpacked, and finally in position in my shop. N...

Craftsman 1/3 hp 3.5 amp 10" Band Saw (21400)

Craftsman 1/3 hp 3.5 amp 10" Band Saw (21400)

A friend of mine has the previous version of this machine with the 3’ depth instead of the 4 5/8” depth of this 21400 model. I have used his doing some curvy cuts on smaller projects and it performed very well. The wife had mentioned getting another bandsaw for the shop but I kept shrugging it off until I had the funds for a 17” later this year. When I saw this one go on sale at Sears I decided to take the plunge. This is the very same saw as the Rikon 10-305 but sells fo...

Bargain Tool Review - Skil 9" 2.5-Amp Band Saw (3385-012)

I finally got a chance last night to use the bench-top band saw that I picked up a few months ago. My local Lowes sells it for for about $120 plus tax, but I grabbed it on sale, refurbished, at CPO for $69 back in January or February.I had been looking at the PC 14? floor saw, but at $400+, but I had a tough time justifying it at this point. I’m really on a Porter-Cable kick lately. I’m so happy with both the PC joiner and planer that I got last year. Anyhow, back to this band saw review...

Decent Bandsaw for the Price...With Some Modifications

Decent Bandsaw for the Price...With Some Modifications

Let me just start off by saying that this is my first review here on LumberJocks, as well as my first experience with owning a bandsaw. I have to admit, the only other experience i have with bandsaws is operating the industrial-sized Powermatics at my highschool, so my expectations may be high from that, or low from lack of personal experience. I bought this about a year ago because it was relatively well built compared to the other 9-10” bandsaws on the market. When it first arrived...

i have been using a craftsman 20401 14 inch bandsaw for almost 4 years now. not a bad saw at all but not ment to be used to resaw almost every day. needless to say it was showing some wear. started looking at all the saws that were 14 inches both the jett and powermatic only had 15 inch tables too small for me. so that left the ricon only thing i did not like was the guide bearings they are the same as what was on the craftsman. started looking around and found the carter brg,s replaced the b...

Good bandsaw but pricey

Good bandsaw but pricey

I’ve had this bandsaw for about 8 months now, so I thought that it was about time to review it. I started looking at bandsaws about a year ago, mainly because I wanted something that I could cut curves with. I didn’t really think much about re-sawing during the decision process, thought it might be something I would do someday, but the real reason for buying a bandsaw would be to cut curves easily. I have several other General International tools, mostly because they are the mai...

I bought this saw about 2 weeks ago, since then have used it quite a bit to aid in installing a hardwood floor as well as some other side projects. When researching bandsaws, one thing I noticed was that most of the reviews I’d been reading were 3-4 years old or older. B/c of this I figured I’d add mine here for a more current review. Perspective: I’m a “home hobbyist” meaning I do this stuff for fun in my spare time. Treat this review as such To start, I&...

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

Hello! I am not new to forums or new to woodworking, but I am new to THIS forum. I joined mainly to post my review of this saw but looks like a good forum with a lot of information and good people. So hello from Texas! RobWoodWorker’s post was one of a few reviews that I read (there are only a few out there) before pulling the trigger on this PM 1800 mega bandsaw. Rather than rehashing a lot of the same data, I thought I would just piggy back onto Rob’s post and compare my find...

Worth every penny

Worth every penny

I bought this machine to replace a Delta 14” bandsaw equipped with riser blocks. That no longer could produce the power I needed. Lets get the the bad news done frist. Yes, this saw is made in China…...Don’t let that scare you. Yes, this saw cost a lot….But, you get what you pay for. Set up was easy. All I had to do was, mount the table, and the motar. The hardest part of the job was getting it off the palet it came on. Installing the motar was tricky, only because ...
