New Grizzly G0457 Resaw Bandsaw

New Grizzly G0457 Resaw Bandsaw

Let me start by saying this is the first bandsaw I have ever owned and operated so I don’t have any past experiences to compare it to. I decided about 6-7 months ago my next major tool purchase had to be a bandsaw. Since that decision I’ve been reading and reviewing not to mention saving money. There were a couple deciding factors that led me to this model. Reviews – both by fellow LJ’s (thanks to you all) and to FWW magazine. Price – I took advantage of the late...

Laguna Tools LT 14 SUV Bandsaw Review - So very close!

Laguna Tools LT 14 SUV Bandsaw Review - So very close!

I first saw a Laguna Bandsaw in 2006 at the Calgary Woodworking Show. Man was it impressive! It just oozed quality. And when they cut a burl veneer slice, it looked like it barely needed sanding. What can I say – I was hooked (I still have that veneer slice). However at the time I didn’t have the money for it and went on to purchase something else. I always kept that demo in mind. After trying for three years to get my bandsaw to accurately cut wood and spending a mini fortune ...

Hello Jocks and a Happy Holiday to all. Well I finally upgrade my band saw situation in my shop. With the help of all the Grizzly jock owner here at the site it was probably the deciding factor in my selection. Although this model G0457 had not been review as of yet this one caught my eye in my final selection. Price comparable to the 17” Grizzly with a resaw capacity of 12” the G0457 come in at 10” but with the same 2HP motor and I beam steel construction. The main rea...

Last week I received my new Grizzly G0513X2B Extreme 17” 2hp w/motor brake bandsaw. I researched a lot of saws and for the money this seemed to be the best buy. I ordered it four weeks ago but it was back ordered. Grizzly was very good about keeping me informed of when it would ship and made adjustments for my schedule. In between the date I ordered it and received it the price dropped by $125. ($1075.00 + shipping) Grizzly responded immediately to my email request that they re-write...

Powermatic PM1800 18" Bandsaw

Powermatic PM1800 18" Bandsaw

Apoligies for the long post but here goes. History: About a 1-1/2 year ago I picked up a Steel City 18” bandsaw from the local Woodcraft and about a year ago also picked up a Powermatic 14” bandsaw. The intent was to use the SC as a resaw machine and the PM for the balance of the tasks. Have been happy with both of them. I had been stocking up on rough saw boards, many wider than the SC could resaw. So I started looking around and reading everything I could find on the web o...

NOTE This review is NOT dealing with a stock saw, the saw in question has been fitted with the following updates. #1. Central Machinery Riser Block Kit. #2. Craftsman Professional Universal Band Saw Fence. #3. Suffolk Machinery Timberwolf 1/2” 3 TPI blade. #4. Iturra tension spring. #5. Accu-Link link belts. (Harbor Freight). The Central Machinery Model 32208 4 speed 14” band saw, and its single speed sibling the 32206 (only difference appears to be the pulley setup), can be...

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

It was between the Grizzly G0555X, G0513 and the Rikon Deluxe. I deliberated the total cost of ownership and quality of each saw. That meant upgrades, modifications, shipping and the number of years I was sure the saw would be useful to me. Many reviews I read on the grizzly’s said that they had vibration issues so they’d need new poly bands for the wheels and other slight modifications that actually add to the total price. I’ve never been ok with sub-par quality so I knew w...

I've got a problem with this saw

I've got a problem with this saw

It’s so darn quiet I’m afraid I’ll walk off and leave it running! I added a little flag to the tensioner so I won’t turn it on with the blade loose. Seems someone, Grizzly themselves maybe, could add this to their saws with out any problem. It’s just a bead chain tied to the tension lever and a 1/4” bolt tapped into the arm behind the switch so the tension lever lifts the flag so it blocks the start switch. The saw blade squealed when resawing so I ran ...

Grizzly G0555 Band Saw with Woodslicer Blade - Wow!

Grizzly G0555 Band Saw with Woodslicer Blade - Wow!

I finally got to play with the new band saw, and wow what a difference a quality tool and blade make. I bought this primarily for resawing, and so far it has not disappointed. http://www.grizzly.com/products/g0555 The band saw came mostly assembled except for the base and table. It was really stuffed into the Styrofoam, and was a pita to get out. I had to tear the foam apart around the base to get it out. Otherwise, it went together easily. The riser block was easy to install, an...
