Exceptional saw at a terrific price!

Exceptional saw at a terrific price!

After my disappointment with Central Machinery, I have been cautious about purchasing large shop equipment, but I couldn’t be happier. I went down to the Grizzly scratch and dent sale in Springfield, MO this past June. I was specifically looking for a new bandsaw as my old 12” Craftsman (circa 1965) was just worn out. There were plenty of store models out in the tents, and a few really banged up saws too. I picked the G0555P which was selling at $545 minus the 10% discount for mil...

Another disappointment from Harbor Freight

Another disappointment from Harbor Freight

07-18-2016 04:51 AM by John Mills | 3 comments »

I would have rated it Zero, but you don’t allow me that option. I bought the Harbor Freight Central Machinery 14” 4 speed band saw while living in Casper, WY back in 2009. They shipped it to me in three packages, each weighing 50+ pounds. Each box arrived on different days, the last being two weeks after the first arrived. After assembling it and trying to make sense of the chicken scratch they call instructions, I had a good idea how it was to go together. However, that ende...

Mixed Opinion About This Bandsaw...

Mixed Opinion About This Bandsaw...

About 15 months ago I purchased my Grizzly GO555 bandsaw. After it arrived I unboxed it and put it together. I normally put the boxes of items I buy in a shed I built just to keep them in until the warranty expires, but one of my kids tossed the boxes out without my knowing it. As soon as had it all together I grabbed some scrap and fired the saw up with the anticipation of a 5 year old on Christmas day only to be a bit disappointed in how it operated. The blade lead was horrible to say th...

Yet another Powermatic review, close up.

Yet another Powermatic review, close up.

As I stated in another review, I spent well over a month going back and forth between the Powermatic PWBS-14CS, with riser, and the Grizzly G0513X2. The differences are stark. The Grizz uses a 131.5” blade, the Powermatic uses a 105”. (More steel, more teeth, longer wear.)The Grizz is a 2HP, 2 speed model, the Powermatic is a one speed, 1.5HP model. The Powermatic comes in around 225 lbs. The Grizzly comes in at about 390 lbs.The Grizz table is 23 5/8 X 17 1/4”, the Powerm...

Lt 14 bx by Laguna

Lt 14 bx by Laguna

The day has come to upgrade , and after several months of research I decided to go with the Laguna Lt14BX bandsaw. First reason I went with this saw is motor size , this is a 2.5 hp motor on a 14” saw ! Second the fact that it can resaw 13” high boards, lastly even though it is manufactured overseas it is all Laguna ( ceramic guides, pyramid spine, very heavy steel and the fit and finish is impeccable . The other big draw for me was that Laguna uses a ceramic blade guide system i...

Initial review of 14bx 220

Initial review of 14bx 220

i purchases the 14 box along with the articulating 220v halogen lamp, mobility kit and 3/4 resaw king blade. When delivered it was well packages. Probably the best I have eve seen. It was packed tightly inside a box in molded styrofoam. The box was in perfect shape and I had now double that it had travelled safely to my home. Initially the machine looked great. I have had the machine now for several weeks and have yet to use it. There have been many issues with setup mainly due to la...

A Great New Addition To My Shop

A Great New Addition To My Shop

Manufacturer: Grizzly Industrial, Inc.Model: Grizzly G0513P – 17” 2 HP Bandsaw, Polar Bear SeriesModel: Shop Fox G7314Z – Heavy-Duty Mobile BaseCost: $895 and $74.95 Overview First a note about this “review”. This is more of an informational post, not so much of a review as I have not owned a bandsaw before, and therefore have nothing to compare it to. Having a bandsaw in the shop opens a completely new avenue of possibilities in the way wood is cut: ev...

Still A Favorite, After Nine Years

Still A Favorite, After Nine Years

Powermatic 1791216K Model PWBS-14CS Deluxe 14-Inch 1-3/4-Inch Woodworking Bandsaw with Bearing Guides, Lamp, and Chip Blower, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)Twenty years ago, upgrading to a Unisaw cabinet saw and top quality fence from a contractor’s saw was a milestone. Before, set-ups often took minutes. Essentially, they were guess work using a tape measure. After, set ups never took more than seconds, but produced dead-on cuts. Too, even re-dimensioning thick mat...

Impressed, good value so far

Impressed, good value so far

I had for years been using an old Delta 12 inch saw that I got on Craigslist. It was wearing out in multiple ways all at once and all the problems were hard to fix since it’s long discontinued, plus it only has a 6 inch resaw capacity and for most of what i do eight would be about right. I did a lot of research, including reviews here, and settled on the Craftsman BAS 350 which is the same as the Rikon 10-321, only @200 bucks cheaper. I was thinking about the Rikon 10-325, but itR...
