My Review of, Rikon 10-325 14" Deluxe Bandsaw

Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

411 days ago by ferstler | 20 comments »

Note: while this review is of the BS1400 model, the owner’s manual calls it the BS14002. I do not know if the addition of the number 2 signifies an upgrade or is just the full number not listed correctly in the catalog. The earlier “gray” version might have been the plain, old BS1400. In any case, the one being reviewed here is the orange version seen easily at any Home Depot store, usually selling for about $350. OK, this is a pretty basic band saw in the old style. It c...

Received my 18 ” saw and a Driftmaster Fence about three weeks ago, and the experience has been trying.First I received my copy of the invoice on Saturday, before my saw was to be delivered on Tuesday. When reviewing the invoice I discovered Laguna had shipped me a 16HD instead of the 18 I had ordered.Couldn’t speak with the sales rep until Monday the day before scheduled delivery to advise him of the mistake, (this was after waiting weeks for delivery). The sales rep admitted it wa...

14 Inch Jet Bandsaw

14 Inch Jet Bandsaw

I ordered this saw from Amazon on Monday and it was delivered on the following Friday utilizing their free shipping. I was worried that it might be damaged in route as it seems other have had similar experiences. However, it arrived in pristine condition, shrink wrapped to a wooden pallet. The saw was easy to assemble as there are only 4 pieces, the base, the saw, trunnion, and the table. Instructions are good and everything was there. The base does not have any “feet” and thus...

Darn good product

Darn good product

This bandsaw is great. It allows me to cut curves, very thin peices, and resaw, and its only $150, thats right only $150. It is a great buy for the money. If your wanting one and you don’t want to spend a fortune for a huge bandsaw, then this is a nice substitute. It has about a 5 inch resaw compacity, which isn’t the best but alot better than the compeditors benchtop models. You would think for $150 it would be a plastic pile of junk, well that is certainly not the case here. The...

Craftsman 12" Bandsaw

Craftsman 12" Bandsaw

This is everything you could expect from 12” saw. It is manufactured by the same factory that makes Rikon saws. It has good power, 3/4 horse; capacity, 7”; and can be adjusted to cut pretty straight. The guides work nice and can be adjusted up tight. The factory fence is junk. I built one to use with the factory front rail and it works just fine. I’m using a 1/2” 3 tooth blade and have my fence set for about 1/8” drift from front to back. The trunion can be adju...

Steel City 14" Bandsaw

Steel City 14" Bandsaw

I bought this saw from Redmond & Son in Atlanta. I wanted to upgrade from my ¾ HP Jet and after looking at the features, I was sold. The price was $699 and I added the Kreg fence for another $100. They forklifted it into my truck, but it was fairly easy to unload by myself. The saw comes in two boxes. The first thing I did was open the manual with the intention of spending the next hour deciphering the instructions, because I have a lot of power tools and “been there, done that” wi...

General 15” Wood Bandsaw

General 15” Wood Bandsaw

637 days ago by toyguy | 3 comments »

Without a doubt, the most used/loved machine in my shop is my old reliable General 15 inch bandsaw. This particular saw is an older tool inherited from my Dad. It was manufactured in 1970 in DrummondVille, Que, Canada. Model number of this saw is the 490 and it is still manufactured today, a testimonial to its quality. This is an original General product; not to be confused with the now available General International products that are manufactured off shore. Like a lot of the tool manufactur...
