Big Bang For Your Buck

I love this machine. I purchased this bandsaw in April 2009. I have put it through it’s paces on numerous projects and use it whenever I can. First Impressions I decided on this particular saw after days of research. I ordered it through the Grizzly website. I was so eager to get it that I ended up picking it up from the shipping depot rather than waiting an extra day for it to be delivered to my house. The trucking company loaded it into my truck with a forklift and I was on...

Powermatic 14" bandsaw

Powermatic 14" bandsaw

08-12-2010 09:11 PM by ChuckC | 25 comments »

I finally convinced myself that I was ready for a bandsaw. I spent about a month looking into them and settled on the Powermatic 14”. I wasn’t interested in getting something that I would have to upgrade due to any number of possible deficiencies so I thought I was safe with the trusted Powermatic name. Well, I was almost right. I had a rough start with this saw. If it wasn’t for their superior customer service I would have returned it. I ordered the 14” bandsaw, ri...

Here is my review of the grizzly G0514X2B 19” 3 HP Extreme-Series Bandsaw with Motor Brake. I ordered the saw about 3 monthes ago. Shipping – The saw arrived at my house about 4 or 5 buisiness days after ordering and was packed in a flimsy wooded crate but I did not see any problems tahat stemmed from this. The material of the crate was 1/2” X 3” pine. I did not see any damage after removing the crate si I guess it was fine. I did pay for the lift gate and the frie...

Craftsman 14" Bandsaw - Nice product for the price

Craftsman 14" Bandsaw - Nice product for the price

After reading reviews, I went with the Craftsman 14” Bandsaw… driven by price, $340 and convenience of pick up. So, no delivery charge and in Delaware we have no sales tax… so that was the price… $339.99. Set up was easy. The box weighs only 170 pounds… easy enough for neighbor and myself to get down flight of stars to basement. Packaging was great.. no problem. I set up the stand, and then made a small cart with wheels for it. This saw does not come ...

Some issues/ Gloat

Some issues/ Gloat

I just picked this up yesterday. I have been previously using the 10” version but have been looking to upgrade to a 14”. I have been very happy with the 10” and think everything about the fit, finish and performance is great (within its 1/3 hp capacity). I been watching craigslist (Chicago area) and good 14” saw at a good price have been fairly elusive. I stumbled upon searsoutlet.com which lists all their returns/refurbs/open box items. They had this one at 279.00 plu...

Great bang for the buck!

Great bang for the buck!

NOTE This review is NOT dealing with a stock saw, the saw in question has been fitted with the following updates. #1. Central Machinery Riser Block Kit. #2. Craftsman Professional Universal Band Saw Fence. #3. Suffolk Machinery Timberwolf 1/2” 3 TPI blade. #4. Iturra tension spring. #5. Accu-Link link belts. (Harbor Freight). The Central Machinery Model 32208 4 speed 14” band saw, and its single speed sibling the 32206 (only difference appears to be the pulley setup), can be...

Take a chance and prepare to do some work

Take a chance and prepare to do some work

Other than wood, I’ve been cutting other materials with a hacksaw for quite some time. Never minded the labor, but it just takes a long time to cut a 2” round steel bar :/ so I’ve always kept my eye open for a small bandsaw deal. After missing out on a few on CL, and noticing HF opened a store not far, with a grand opening, and tax free weekend I figured It’s probably as good as it gets for a new saw so I went and got one. It seems several mfg are selling what seems...

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

My Experience (so far) with the Powermatic PM1800

Hello! I am not new to forums or new to woodworking, but I am new to THIS forum. I joined mainly to post my review of this saw but looks like a good forum with a lot of information and good people. So hello from Texas! RobWoodWorker’s post was one of a few reviews that I read (there are only a few out there) before pulling the trigger on this PM 1800 mega bandsaw. Rather than rehashing a lot of the same data, I thought I would just piggy back onto Rob’s post and compare my find...

The Horrible Stories About Laguna Are True

The Horrible Stories About Laguna Are True

10-22-2014 08:11 PM by Rockne | 23 comments »

I hate to sound like a complainer, so let me start out with something positive: the Minimax MM16 that I picked up when the Laguna purchase fell through is AWESOME. I’m fortunate to have some pretty nice machines, and the MM16 is a wonderful example of how things should be done. The only thing I would change about the mm16 is to give it a rack and pinion table . . . otherwise, color me very impressed. Now for the not-so-good: I ordered an LT14 SUV bandsaw from Rockler. Rockler...

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

1 Unlevel top and 3 warped fences

It was between the Grizzly G0555X, G0513 and the Rikon Deluxe. I deliberated the total cost of ownership and quality of each saw. That meant upgrades, modifications, shipping and the number of years I was sure the saw would be useful to me. Many reviews I read on the grizzly’s said that they had vibration issues so they’d need new poly bands for the wheels and other slight modifications that actually add to the total price. I’ve never been ok with sub-par quality so I knew w...
