Laguna 14/12 vibration issues fixed

Laguna 14/12 vibration issues fixed

03-17-2015 03:48 PM by greatview | 17 comments »

I recently set up a new 14/12 bandsaw and found no vibration issues as have been previously reported on this forum. It looks as if Laguna solved whatever problems they might have had. I did make a couple of modifications as described by Randy Woodworker on his youtube videos including a zero clearance insert and replacing the metal dust shield with one of wood held in place by magnets. Overall, a great saw.

Two weeks in - Solid saw, many many minor complaints

Two weeks in - Solid saw, many many minor complaints

Disclaimer: this is my first band saw. Indeed, the first time I have USED any band saw. So I don’t have much of a basis for comparison. However, after two weeks with this saw I think I can give a pretty good ‘new-user’ perspective. I really struggled with the star rating. This seems to be a fundamentally good saw, and I don’t necessarily regret it. However, the last two weeks have seen a lot of frustrations that I was not expecting from the fancy Porter-Cable ...

a versatile tool that functions well.

Although this saw can be used for both wood and metal, because I have better tools for woodworking, I’ve used this exclusively for metal. But that said, I find that having the ability to do a little metal work here and there comes in very handy and supports my wood working. (cutting piano hinges, bolts, black iron pipe, rebar, angle iron, T-track, etc…) I’ve wanted a portable BS since I built my timber frame house 20 years ago. But they were expensive and 4 inches was ...

Mini-Review

I bought a Craftsman 14” BAS350 bandsaw a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to get a 14” bandsaw for my workshop. I am basically an aspiring hobbyist that likes to make furniture and other woodcraft. I don’t own a table saw nor do I plan to, so a bandsaw seemed like the next logical tool to add to the suite of tools. So after doing the standard bandsaw research I settled on the Craftsman. I picked the Craftsman for a few reasons:1. They had one in stock at the local Sear...

Excellent Small Bandsaw

Excellent Small Bandsaw

I kept running into situations where a bandsaw would have made a particular step in a project very easy vs trying to use a jigsaw. I researched bandsaws, with most of the info surrounding 14” and larger saws. There wasn’t a lot of info on smaller saws, and I didn’t give them a lot of thought. After some research I realized a smaller saw would do about all the things I had needed one for, have a smaller footprint, be a lot smaller expenditure, and if the smaller saw was any g...

Good for Small Jobs

I bought this band saw three years ago as part of the 3 benchtop tools that I felt I needed. I don’t remember shopping around much, but it was just before my surgery, so I may have had better things to remember. I do know that the price of the saw at Lowes was a deciding factor. Out of the box I only had to install the table with four bolts (supplied.) The tools come with the saw for any adjustments you need to make. You get a metric wrench (10mm/13mm) and an 1/8 inch (by my caliper)...

Finally a Serious Bandsaw

Finally a Serious Bandsaw

The band saw is an amazing tool, or so I am told. I must admit that with my Craftsman 12 inch saw (similar if not the same as the Rikon with 8 inch resaw) that I was not always feeling the thrill. Part of this may have been the fact that I tended to use a compromise blade to avoid changing between resawing and scrolling optimization. I don’t have the patience for band saw blade changes and the subsequent tuning. The path of least resistance from my perspective was to get a saw optimized for ...

Garage Sale Quality

Garage Sale Quality

Laguna has left a first and lasting impression on me. The saw I received came with numerous cosmetic flaws. From the runs in the paint on the motor, to what looks like dents in the edge of the doors, various chips in the paint on the table, plastic parts that look like they have been chewed on, to holes needing to be drilled out for assembly. This saw looks like something I would have purchased at a garage sale. I am passionate about wood working and just as passionate about my wood working t...

The Horrible Stories About Laguna Are True

The Horrible Stories About Laguna Are True

I hate to sound like a complainer, so let me start out with something positive: the Minimax MM16 that I picked up when the Laguna purchase fell through is AWESOME. I’m fortunate to have some pretty nice machines, and the MM16 is a wonderful example of how things should be done. The only thing I would change about the mm16 is to give it a rack and pinion table . . . otherwise, color me very impressed. Now for the not-so-good: I ordered an LT14 SUV bandsaw from Rockler. Rockler...
