Pleasantly Surprised -or- The Abuse is Over
620 days ago by DannyBoy | 15 comments »
For years I suffered under the oppression of a hard backed miter box saw. I hated the fact that one cut took what seemed like hours and usually resulted in my arm feeling like a loose rubber band. The years that I had spent with my hard backed saw abusing me had caused me to grow so fond of it. It only hurt me because it loved me. So, when I saw this saw (love that line) at my local Sears I was all flushed and almost ashamed to consider taking into the sanctity of my hard back saw and I...
Very Nice Dovetail Saw
676 days ago by Mike Lingenfelter | 14 comments »
I love the feel of this saw. The grip is comfortable in my large hand. The saw has a nice “heavy” feel to it. The saw cuts straight and true. It has a rip tooth configuration, with a narrow set. The narrow set helps the saw cut straight, once your cut is started. Once I figured out how to start my cuts, with a light touch push stroke, cutting became very easy. Although, I still have some work to do on my dovetail joints :). www.lie-nielsen.com
Why did it take so long?

I have wanted one of these saws since I first laid eyes on one. Rob Cosman had a set of these in his toolkit , and I first got to handle one about 4 years ago. The problem was that rob’s was kinked. so I didn’t get to use it. My new Lie-Nielsen panel saw arrived today, so the first thing i did was rip open the packaging and put it through it’s paces.I may not be extremely accomplished as a furniture maker, but i have done my share of construction with hand tools, and feel...
This Japanese Saw "Pulls" Its Weight
650 days ago by Eric | 12 comments »
I just got my very first Japanese handsaw the other day, and have really enjoyed breaking it in. I thought I’d just give you this review via some bullet points. Just know that my handsaw experience to date is a cheap Stanley crosscut saw (like any guy would own) and a Crown gent’s saw. Pros: Because the saw cuts on the pull stroke, I found it extremely easy to start a cut with zero downward pressure. The saw cuts fast and does not require a lot of elbow grease to keep it go...
Accurate, Quick & Easy

For years, I have had difficulty cutting a straight, perpendicular line with a handsaw. No matter what method I tried, the cut was neither straight nor perpendicular to the stock, most often both. I had got to the point where I would pull out my circsaw, jigsaw, or fire up the table saw for all cuts, a real pain. Then, a couple of months ago, I purchased the Irwin #213104 Dovetail/Detail Saw. I feel pretty certain that I didn’t suddenly develop the talent to saw a straight line, so I mu...
Beautiful Saws that are awesome in use.

These saws are my favorite tools that I own. I don’t know where I would be at in my woodworking if I hadn’t stumbled across an article about the dovetail saw a couple of years ago. As many of us early on in our woodworking, I wanted to become an expert at making dovetail joinery. But I was getting no where with my efforts and had tried several different styles and saws to get better, with no luck. Then I read an article about how the quality of the saw makes a big difference i...
Great all around saw

Since I didn’t have a handsaw of any type around the shop, I went ahead and picked up this very usual looking item at the big box store for $20. So far I’ve only used it to cut/trim a some 2×4 and 1×3 stock for some garage storage that I’ll post as a project when I have more time. The grip – The saw has a nice long grip that’s made of some type of rubber…it’s fits nicely in my large hands and does’t slip at all with the texturing o...
Best Dovetail Saw I've Ever Used
617 days ago by teenagewoodworker | 6 comments »
just to clear this up i haven’t used many dovetail saws so i have nothing to compare this to but for 12$ at Home Depot this saw is just amazing. i can cut straight, at an angle, or any other way i want to cut and the saw stays on track. the back pull seems so much easier and i love how it can also be used as a flush cut saw. also the blade is replaceable so i don’t have to buy a whole new one when it gets dull ( but for 12$ i would buy a new one). for anyone looking for a dovetail...
Premium Saws Indeed

So when I first saw the Veritas Dovetail saw and it’s price – I wanted it. I endlessly searched everywhere on the internet for reviews and came up with just a few. Everywhere said “They get great reviews, but I’m not sure…” We I was sold, I wanted to try it out. I never bought it. I said if they had more than one, a matched set or something, that I would get one. Well, they do now. I figured for a little more than the price of one nice doveta...
Stanley Flush Cut Saw (Dovetail Saw)
677 days ago by Zuki | 4 comments »
Website Link I bought this saw about a year ago as I needed a saw to flush cut plugs that I was using to hide countersunk screws. I was walking through Canadian Tire and saw this baby for about $14. The details – from Stanley • Flexible blade cuts plugs or dowels flush • 23-point blade cuts quickly and cleanly on the pull stroke • Double sided blade for convenient cutting to the left or right • Contoured handle is comfortable, provides maximum control • Excellen...
