New Woodriver #7 V3 Hand Plane

New Woodriver #7 V3 Hand Plane

This is my first Woodriver plane and I am impressed. I needed a #7 jointer plane because I am building a woodworkers bench. I already have a Stanley Bailey #7 but really wanted a tool with a stiffer blade than the stanley. I tried the IBC in my Stanley and had some issues. Unfortunatly when Stanley built their planes back in the day they didn’t stick to specs very well. I needed a plane that is going to take use and be able to take replacment parts when the time comes. So I went shoppin...

This is a short pictorial on setting up the Small Plow to cut T&Gs. This is a new-to-me plane, and I took a few pics as I was working out the kinks and having a little play. I hope this helps some of you. Link: http://www.inthewoodshop.com/ToolReviews/AccessoryBladesfortheVeritasSmallPlow.html Regards from Perth Derek

When it comes to hand planes people have lots of ideas about whose is the best. There are several premium hand planes; Lie Nielsen, Veritas, Bridge city, Wood River and The granddad of the bunch Stanley along with many others. These planes all claim to be the best or the innovator with new frog designs, re-worked Bedrock designs, bronze bodies and ductile steel. There are those who prefer a 125 year old bailey or bedrock but these old planes simply can’t hold a candle to the modern marv...

Great starter value

Great starter value

I bought this to try when I first started out in hand tools as my first hand plane, basically because it was $12. I figured if it was horrible for $12, it would make a great paper weight. My expectations were not high. Let me be clear from the get go, this is not a LN or LV plane. It may compare with an older stanley, on stanleys worst day of milling, but not horrible for $12. Also, please keep in mind that this review is strictly based off the fact that for $12 and a little time, you can...

Not a premium plane out of the box but after tuning its a fine user. Amazon price is 112.25 free shh

I just checked Amazon.com and found that they have now dropped the price on this plane to 112.25 with free shipping included. I think this plane is well worth the sale price. The sides and sole are polished and looked nice but the black finish job on the plane was done poorly. Not only did the finish look poor it has also started to chip off on a couple areas of my plane. I have only used my plane a handful of times and the black finish has all ready chipped a little on the front toe part an...

Very nice little plane

Very nice little plane

I got this Block Plane for Christmas and just now finally got around to cleaning the grease off of it, waxing the sole, and sharpening the blade. The blade adjuster seems to work fine and the adjustable mouth is very nice. Fit and finish are excellent. I use a worksharp 3000 for most of my sharpening (especially when its cold) and I ran right through the grits (80, 220, 400, 1000, 3600) in just about 5 minutes, then dropped a 30 degree micro-bevel on the end. I was pulling full widt...

Hi Folks, Few months back, I was at a woodworking show in toronto and came across the booth for Rob Cosman(http://www.robcosman.com/). He gave a very informative seminar about hand plane use and maintenance and was demonstrating with the Wood River #6. I Couldnt get over the quality of the plane for the price, and when taking a turn to try it out, really liked the feel of it. I ended up buying one off him at the show for the show special price of $175. I was extra happy because he pulle...

Veritas Skew Block Plane

Veritas Skew Block Plane

936 days ago by Andrew | 5 comments »

The Christmas present that keeps on shaving. My wife suprised me while making me decide what plane to get. A devious plan at the least, but she pulled it off. I helped a friend decide on this plane as the most versatile over the Lie Nielsen skew block plane. The major factor was the adjustable mouth. I opted for the 01 blade, usually suggested by hand tool gurus for low angle instruments. And now for the review… The fit and finish are far above any tool I have previously owned, th...

Lie-Nielsen #62 low angle jack plane

Lie-Nielsen #62 low angle jack plane

When I first got this plane, I posted this comment on the “Hand Plane of your dreams” Thread. Since then I’ve used the plane a few time. My thoughts toward this plane remain the same. Its a great plane right out of the box. I have sharpened it once. The back of the iron was perfectly flat right from the get-go. All I had to do was sharpen. My expectation óf needing to flatten the iron was unfounded. The thick blade makes sharpening a breeze. I am good enough to sharpen...
