The Master Techniques of Marquetry

The Master Techniques of Marquetry

1763 days ago by SteveKorz | 7 comments »

I bought this DVD to gain a better understanding of Marquetry. I was very impressed with Silas Kopf’s methods of teaching his craft. Silas described multiple methods of marquetry and parquetry in his DVD. To watch him work gave me an exponential amount of knowledge. I don’t know that I would have obtained all that knowledge if I just read a book or looked at pictures. The back of the DVD case says: Silas Kopf demonstrates the most important ways marquetry and inlay have ...

Workshop Essentials 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 Mega-Bundle

I have seen a number of Steve Maskery’s videos online here on LumberJocks and on YouTube. I liked what I saw in the clips he has posted, so I decided to order some of his DVD’s. I bought the “Workshop Essentials 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 Mega-Bundle” (49.99 GBP), and am really pleased with my purchase. The 5 DVD set contains hours of material covering a wide range of jigs and fixtures for table saws, track saws, routers, and band saws. I have already built one jig (fine...

Fellow Lumberjocks, Tommy MacDonald at Major League Woodworking has done it again. Tommy is offering his first MLW DVD and the Grand Slam Tools 4-Pak as a Holiday Special for only $100. I’m very happy to have taken advantage of the opportunity. Yesterday I received my set. As expected, it was impecably packaged. Since Tommy’s 4-Pak (Bench Bat, Marking Gauge and two 1:6 paring blocks) has already been reviewed here, I will focus on the MLW Tool Box Project #1 DVD. The DVD is ...

Hal Taylor Instructional Rocking Chair DVD and Plans Rock!

Hal Taylor Instructional Rocking Chair DVD and Plans Rock!

I was surprised not to find a review of Hal Taylors instructional material. Every thread I’ve read about Hal compliments his work. I couldn’t copy a a picture of his DVD cover so I used a picture of my rocker. As a first time rocking chair builder I put my ego aside and searched for plans to build the chiar. There are several builders who supply plans. I chose Hal’s because of the positive feedback given by others. I’m very happy I selected hal’s plans b...

Improper sales / marketing techniques

Improper sales / marketing techniques

About three months ago I received a notice from this company claiming to have sent me a DVD and wanting me to either return it or send them $12.95. I never received anything from them. But, even if I did, according to the post office it would have been a gift from them and I would be under no obligation. I have asked them to quit, reported them to the post office and the BBB. So far, nothing has worked. They keep on sending demands for money. I have learned that this is one of several ...

Lyle Jamieson - Bowl Basics, The Easy Way

Over the weekend, I get a e-mail notification from Wood Magazine that they have a new service where you can purchase and download video tutorials. You can find the service here. While this review is not about Iamplify, I would highly recommend it. While the price is the same as the DVD and the quality isn’t quite as high, there is something to discovering a tutorial you like and then being able to watch it 20 minutes later without having to go to the store or wait for the video to be de...

If not for the viewing of this very interesting documentary woodworking may have never gotten into my blood as strong as it has. This documentary is many things in one, part nature hike, part meditation, part woodworking…..and in all parts a wonderful journey of a man that decided to live his life his own way. Richard Louis “Dick” Proenneke (born May 4, 1916 – April 20, 2003) was a retired highly skilled mechanic living in Alaska that took his modest nest egg and decided ...

FINISHING NIGHTMARES/AVOIDING & FIXING

I just finished watching the two disc DVD set by Charles Neil . I own almost all of Charles DVD sets and thought having viewed Charles finishing A-Z beyond the books, a ten disc set ,full of great finishing info, that there would not be that much new for me to learn ,but as usual just when I think I have picked up all the know information Charles has to offer he brings all new ideas and details to light. Of course there was some review of how finishing works but there were also things not tou...
