Hands down the best Table Saw DVD out there.

Hands down the best Table Saw DVD out there.

I reviewed Hendrik’s DVD (Jointer and Planer Secrets) a while ago and was very pleased with it. When Hendrik came out with a new DVD on Table Saws, I was very interested in getting. At first the price of $94.95 CDN, might seem a little high, but what you get makes it worth every penny. I really wish I had this DVD when I bought my first table saw! This is a 5 DVD set and it has almost 10 hours footage. As with his Jointer DVD set, Hendrik always focuses on safe operation of the t...

Dave Richards makes SketchUp easy

Dave Richards makes SketchUp easy

I have been using SketchUp now for about two years. As I look back on my progress learning this complex and amazing software program, I have come to the conclusion I went about it the wrong way. Often, I would start a model and as I ran into a problem, I would search the internet for the solution. I was learning in small bits and pieces – never taking the time to participate anything that would resemble formal lessons. I think many other woodworkers learn the program the same way. I decide...

Fine Woodworking Magazine Archives

Fine Woodworking Magazine Archives

1637 days ago by Karson | 13 comments »

I had a change to test drive the Fine Woodworking DVD of the first 208 Issues of their magazine. It contains a PDF file of all 208 issues from Winter 1975 to the 208 issue in December 2009. The software loaded fairly fast on my computer, I’m not sure of the size but probably about 3 GB of space. Each of the individual issues are in a folder and they can be viewed with Adobe Reader and you can print etc the contents of the file. The front interface that runs when you click on the i...

Digital Copies of Wood Magazine

Digital Copies of Wood Magazine

1608 days ago by Karson | 13 comments »

I bought the Wood Magazine digital archives, which contains all issued from 1 to 195. Years 1984 to Dec/Jan 2009/2010. It’s very easy to use. It’s made to be run from the DVD, but in doing so it has a speed problem. DVD drives are not as fast as hard drives. I copied it to my hard drive making a folder called “Wood Magazine” and copied all of the data from the DVD to this folder. It’s around 7 GTB of data and it ran fine. No problems. So that improved the s...

Review of the Video "Sam Maloof: A Fine Woodworking DVD Profile"

Review of the Video "Sam Maloof: A Fine Woodworking DVD Profile"

Wow, want to feel overwhelmed, and very inadequate? Sort of like being the last kid to get underarm hair in gym class. I am in the process of building three more Maloof-Inspired Rocking Chairs. Two for a commission, the third as a piece for speculation sale. I have been working through my notes from the last one and preparing wood, and I ran across the Sam Maloof DVD as a recommended Amazon item. You know, those annoying multi-week advertisments from Amazon that keeps track of ever...

Charles Neil The Magic of Routers

Charles Neil The Magic of Routers

2047 days ago by mikega | 9 comments »

The Magic of Routers is Charles Neil’s latest DVD. This is a 5 DVD set that gives you over 10 hours of instructions on everything you want to know about using a router. On disk one he reviews different routers. Then he explains some of the many different types of router bits that are available and how they are used. He then talks about the different ways to guide a router and follows that up with a discussion on hand held routing and using a router table. Although he does not tell you how ...

Ian Kirby's "The Way to Woodwork" 3 DVD set is a big disappointment

Ian Kirby's "The Way to Woodwork" 3 DVD set is a big disappointment

918 days ago by dckchk | 5 comments »

I purchased the three DVD set “The Way to Woodwork” for use as a partial “instruction manual” for my grandsons to use with a full workshop that I have recently provided them. After reviewing all three videos in this set I must say I am very disappointed. I found the universal “critical path” description to be a sensible way to describe a basic woodworking methodology. However, as it is laid out in these DVD’s, it is not successfully developed. Fur...
