Just love Rob's DVDs
208 days ago by Mike Lingenfelter | 15 comments »
I watch a lot woodworking DVDs and Rob Cosman’s are some of my favorites. If you are just starting out with your dovetail education, I recommend that you start with this DVD first. Rob doesn’t show how to cut dovetails in this DVD, it’s all about the dovetail saw. This DVD if very unique in that regard. There aren’t any other DVDs out there, that I have found, that are dedicated to a topic like the dovetail saw. Rob covers just about everything you need to know about the dovetail saw an...
Great DVD on the Jointer and Planer
267 days ago by Mike Lingenfelter | 10 comments »
I heard about this DVD over at Matt's Basement Workshop. I hadn’t hear of Hendrik Varju before that, but I’m glad I know about him now. His DVD on the power Jointer and Planer is one the best woodworking DVDs I’ve watched. It covers all of the techniques you need, to get the most out of your Jointer and Planer. If you are new to using these machines, I highly recommend this DVD. I wish I had had it when I first bought my Jointer and Planer. Many of the mistakes I made ...
Woodworking Techniques

This is the latest DVD I’ve purchased by Christopher Schwarz. The DVD covers a way of working with your tools, either hand tools or power. In his demonstrations on the DVD he uses hand tools, but I talks about where power tools can or should be used. His approach of Course, Medium and Fine when it comes to: dimensioning lumber, cutting joints and shaping curves isn’t an earth shattering concept. Although I think most of us are guilty of skipping one of these steps at one ti...
One of the Most Helpful DVD's I've ever watched!!

Charles Neil’s Finishing A – Z Beyond the Books is a DVD set that EVERY woodworker should have. it is packed with i think about 15 hours of finishing on 10 DVD’s and it is so thorough. the two whole DVDs are just on preparing for the finish and sanding and i thought that there wasn’t much to know about sanding and preparing to finish but after Charles goes through it i just thought wow. even on preparing for a finish i learned a lot. then there are three DVDs on ...
The Master Techniques of Marquetry
56 days ago by SteveKorz | 6 comments »
I bought this DVD to gain a better understanding of Marquetry. I was very impressed with Silas Kopf’s methods of teaching his craft. Silas described multiple methods of marquetry and parquetry in his DVD. To watch him work gave me an exponential amount of knowledge. I don’t know that I would have obtained all that knowledge if I just read a book or looked at pictures. The back of the DVD case says: Silas Kopf demonstrates the most important ways marquetry and inlay have ...
Review of the Video "Sam Maloof: A Fine Woodworking DVD Profile"
270 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 6 comments »
Wow, want to feel overwhelmed, and very inadequate? Sort of like being the last kid to get underarm hair in gym class. I am in the process of building three more Maloof-Inspired Rocking Chairs. Two for a commission, the third as a piece for speculation sale. I have been working through my notes from the last one and preparing wood, and I ran across the Sam Maloof DVD as a recommended Amazon item. You know, those annoying multi-week advertisments from Amazon that keeps track of ever...
Finishing A to Z Beyond the Books

“If you can’t finish, you can’t build” This is the comment Charles Neil made to me when I first meant him last year. By now many of you know who Charles Neil is and that he is on a mission to teach other woodworkers what he has learned from over 30 years as a professional woodworker. His latest DVD set that he just released is called Finishing A to Z Beyond the Books. As you can see from the picture above this a 10 DVD set. There is about 15 hours of information on ...
*Lots* of practical advice on --- wait for it --- building furniture with hand planes.
269 days ago by ben | 4 comments »
Like everything else I’ve ever read or seen from Chris Schwarz, this is chock full of practical advice and tricks, combined with a good bit of useful history. This video reviews some of the techniques used in ‘Course Medium and Fine’, but often takes the details a step or 2 deeper. Also, they differ in that this video generally assumes you begin with a board that’s been machine planed, and needs finishing. This video also covers the block plane extensively. Sharp...
Master Woodworking Plans
3 days ago by disgruntled | 3 comments »
The online digital purchase of the Master Woodworking Plans turned out to be a great disappointment.Their website advertises in a very deceiving way plenty of wood working plans that in reality are just a collections of outside links to other websites in cyberspace where one has to sift through more ads to finally realize you can buy their plans. I was very disappointed since the same result can be achieved by searching in any search engine and leave this review so others might be able to r...
another great DVD

Another great DVD. this sugar chest DVD is jam packed with so much woodworking knowledge on the sugar chest that Charles Neil is passing on to us. It is a 4 DVD set and goes through every little detail. the good the bad and the ugly. it goes through everything from lumber selection, to milling, construction, and the finished product. As i stated earlier this DVD does really show the good, bad, and ugly. as Charles always says he’s going to show everything and even on a couple of small m...
