Just love Rob's DVDs

Just love Rob's DVDs

I watch a lot woodworking DVDs and Rob Cosman’s are some of my favorites. If you are just starting out with your dovetail education, I recommend that you start with this DVD first. Rob doesn’t show how to cut dovetails in this DVD, it’s all about the dovetail saw. This DVD if very unique in that regard. There aren’t any other DVDs out there, that I have found, that are dedicated to a topic like the dovetail saw. Rob covers just about everything you need to know about the dovetail saw an...

Hands down the best Table Saw DVD out there.

Hands down the best Table Saw DVD out there.

I reviewed Hendrik’s DVD (Jointer and Planer Secrets) a while ago and was very pleased with it. When Hendrik came out with a new DVD on Table Saws, I was very interested in getting. At first the price of $94.95 CDN, might seem a little high, but what you get makes it worth every penny. I really wish I had this DVD when I bought my first table saw! This is a 5 DVD set and it has almost 10 hours footage. As with his Jointer DVD set, Hendrik always focuses on safe operation of the t...

Great DVD on the Jointer and Planer

Great DVD on the Jointer and Planer

I heard about this DVD over at Matt's Basement Workshop. I hadn’t hear of Hendrik Varju before that, but I’m glad I know about him now. His DVD on the power Jointer and Planer is one the best woodworking DVDs I’ve watched. It covers all of the techniques you need, to get the most out of your Jointer and Planer. If you are new to using these machines, I highly recommend this DVD. I wish I had had it when I first bought my Jointer and Planer. Many of the mistakes I made ...

Charles Neil The Magic of Routers

Charles Neil The Magic of Routers

314 days ago by mikega | 9 comments »

The Magic of Routers is Charles Neil’s latest DVD. This is a 5 DVD set that gives you over 10 hours of instructions on everything you want to know about using a router. On disk one he reviews different routers. Then he explains some of the many different types of router bits that are available and how they are used. He then talks about the different ways to guide a router and follows that up with a discussion on hand held routing and using a router table. Although he does not tell you how ...

Master Woodworking Plans

Master Woodworking Plans

The online digital purchase of the Master Woodworking Plans turned out to be a great disappointment.Their website advertises in a very deceiving way plenty of wood working plans that in reality are just a collections of outside links to other websites in cyberspace where one has to sift through more ads to finally realize you can buy their plans. I was very disappointed since the same result can be achieved by searching in any search engine and leave this review so others might be able to r...

Charles Neil’s Finishing A – Z Beyond the Books is a DVD set that EVERY woodworker should have. it is packed with i think about 15 hours of finishing on 10 DVD’s and it is so thorough. the two whole DVDs are just on preparing for the finish and sanding and i thought that there wasn’t much to know about sanding and preparing to finish but after Charles goes through it i just thought wow. even on preparing for a finish i learned a lot. then there are three DVDs on ...

Woodworking Techniques

Woodworking Techniques

This is the latest DVD I’ve purchased by Christopher Schwarz. The DVD covers a way of working with your tools, either hand tools or power. In his demonstrations on the DVD he uses hand tools, but I talks about where power tools can or should be used. His approach of Course, Medium and Fine when it comes to: dimensioning lumber, cutting joints and shaping curves isn’t an earth shattering concept. Although I think most of us are guilty of skipping one of these steps at one ti...

Turning Basics with Steve Shanesy - DVD Review

Turning Basics with Steve Shanesy - DVD Review

145 days ago by thewoodwhisperer | 8 comments »

This week I was excited to receive a complimentary copy of “Turning Basics for Furniture Makers” from Popular Woodworking. With my shop currently out of commission, a woodworking DVD really hits the spot! Now most of you know I consider myself a utilitarian turner, meaning, I usually only turn when a project calls for it. So when I watch a typical turning DVD, my attention usually starts to drift pretty quickly. Most of these titles are produced by amazingly talented wood turn...

Special Finishing Techniques DVD

Do you like quirky? (I DO!!!) Do you like unpretentious honesty? (I DO!!!) Do you like to get interesting and rock-solid insights into how an expert does his finishing? (I DO!!!) I got this DVD for a recent birthday. I put Charles Neil DVDs on my wishlist and actually got one. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and learned a LOT. For example, I never really knew much about grain filling techniques… and now I am looking at remnants of red oak wanting to give it a shot. When m...

The Master Techniques of Marquetry

The Master Techniques of Marquetry

465 days ago by SteveKorz | 7 comments »

I bought this DVD to gain a better understanding of Marquetry. I was very impressed with Silas Kopf’s methods of teaching his craft. Silas described multiple methods of marquetry and parquetry in his DVD. To watch him work gave me an exponential amount of knowledge. I don’t know that I would have obtained all that knowledge if I just read a book or looked at pictures. The back of the DVD case says: Silas Kopf demonstrates the most important ways marquetry and inlay have ...
