best deal for a remote dust collector switch

best deal for a remote dust collector switch

I was going to buy a longranger for my dust collector, but I decided to look around for alternatives, and I found this. four outlet switches with two remotes for half the price of a single longranger, how could I go wrong? The two big green outlets are rated for 15 Amps, and the two white ones are only rated for 10 Amps. my 1hp dust collector is rated at 6 Amps, so I tried one of white ones, and the startup surge popped an internal fuse, I shorted the fuse, and it works fine, doesnt seem t...

"Bucket Head" Vacuum

"Bucket Head" Vacuum

I found this Bucket Head Vacuum on display at Home Depot a while back & decided to give it a try. Heck… It’s only 20 bucks & uses an ordinary 5 gallon plastic bucket for collection of dust & chips. (I just happen to have acquired a couple of plastic buckets that have the same rim dimensions but hold about 7-1/2 gsllons & are several inches taller.) There’s no doubt that it’s a cheap vacuum but it works well. The filter is a simple pouch over the suc...

2 hp dust collector

2 hp dust collector

I recently purchased a 2 hp dust collector from harbor freight and found, that for the money, it is a very good tool. Assembly was pretty straight forward and took about 2 hours.Yyou should keep a sense of humor when doing that as the instructions are pretty vague and not very accurate as far as descriptions. I bought this to replace a jet DC-650 and it does have considerable more suction pressure and moves a lot more air. All though not as much as the delta counter part which was 3 times the...

Onieda Dust Deputy

Onieda Dust Deputy

I’ve been using my Dust Deputy for several months now and feel it is time to give it a review. The theory is very sound and as long as the plastic stays together it works as advertised. BUT I can’t keep the top on. The glue at the factory failed, the epoxy failed and the “special glue from HD was no better. Evidently the plastic that it is made from is impervious to any kind of glue to keep this sucker together. I complained to their service department and was told to get th...

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

1276 days ago by patcollins | 6 comments »

My 1970’s Craftsman Contractors saw has zero dust collection and much of it falls straight down so I thought about using some sort of bag for it. I happened on this canvas “Table Saw Dust Bag” at Harbor Freight and it was only $5.99 so I thought I would give it a whirl. The material is pretty cheap and the snaps aren’t anywhere close to being put on straight or even, but that’s alright. The bag came with the male end of the snaps attached to sheet metal scre...

All I wanted was quiet but recieved so much more

All I wanted was quiet but recieved so much more

I’ve been wanting to replace my noisy Rigid only because it’s noisy. I wasn’t expecting all the other features. The wall mount frees up valuable floor space. The hoses are much more flexible than I’m accustom to. They feel more like rubber than plastic. They are the smaller diameter but the the main unit and the hose ends appears to be able to accept the larger (2.25” I think) hoses if you prefer. I like the conventional dust bag. It appears to be an op...

Both the tool (and its price) are extraordinary.

Both the tool (and its price) are extraordinary.

With my new shop in the house (as well as a bit of asthma in both me and the offspring) I’ve needed to invest a lot more money and time into dust collection. I installed a JDS 2hp unit and plumbed piping—even with a reducer which provided benchtop extraction—but I quickly found that I find the noise of the large unit “worth it” only when running the big tools. For the small tools—and particularly the sander—I had been using a combination of a sma...

The only reason this did not get a 5 Star, is the Directions & the casters! I have to get new ones as they’re junk! Why they would not include better casters, I have no idea. For the money and CFM rating along with the 1 Micron Bag being standard, I felt this was the best bang for your buck. At $259.00 plus shipping I thought it would be better than trying to make a Harbor Freight one work. Not there is anything wrong with a HF one for those of my Fellow LJ’s that have them. I have be...

A Handy Addition To A Single Stage Dust Collection System

A Handy Addition To A Single Stage Dust Collection System

1296 days ago by Dustmite97 | 7 comments »

I have been using a single stage dust collection system for over a year now and have found that the bottom bag fills up quickly and the top filter bag gets really messy. I finally upgraded to a two stage system and it works great. The lid I use has two ports and the port that connects to the tool has an L-shaped elbow that connects to the underside of the port. I have the lid on a heavy duty Rubbermaid garbage can but might upgrade to a deeper can sometime. After doing a bunch of planing and ...
