Now's the time to get a dust collector!

This collector has been reviewed several times here so I won’t go into to much of the details. The reason i am reviewing it now is because I got the latest issue of “Wood” magazine and there’s a coupon in it for this collector. You can get it with that coupon for just $150 (that’s $100 off the regular price). And it is every bit as good as the VASTLY more expensive Jet and Grizzly models with similar specs. Here’s why I love this collector… 1. P...

Ridgid Shop Vacs

Ridgid Shop Vacs

04-02-2011 03:08 AM by kosta | 12 comments »

Yo whats up everybody I wanted to do a review on ridgid shop vacs. I have been using ridgid shop vacs for about 2 years. I have the ridgid 9 gallon 3 hp shop vac and the ridgid 12 gallon 5.5 hp shop vac. I use the 12 gallon shop vac which has a 2-1/2 in hose to collect the dust from my tablesaw. I use the 9 gallon shop vac which has a 1-7/8 in hose to collect the dust from my miter saw and sanders. The 12 gallon is one of the largest shop vacs you can buy and its a pretty nice shop vac. I use...

Ridgid 16 gallon Shop Vacuum

Ridgid 16 gallon Shop Vacuum

I just purchased this Ridgid 16 gallon Wet/Dry Vac. The model is a WD 1851 and I got it at Home Depot for $160. I’m upgrading (I hope) from an older ShopVac I had that’s at death’s door. This machine seems very nice so far. Nice power cord length and cord seems to stay cool when running. The switch is right up front and very easy to operate. The included hose and accessories aren’t bad either. The motor is rated for 12 amps but you won’t find that on the packagin...

best deal for a remote dust collector switch

best deal for a remote dust collector switch

I was going to buy a longranger for my dust collector, but I decided to look around for alternatives, and I found this. four outlet switches with two remotes for half the price of a single longranger, how could I go wrong? The two big green outlets are rated for 15 Amps, and the two white ones are only rated for 10 Amps. my 1hp dust collector is rated at 6 Amps, so I tried one of white ones, and the startup surge popped an internal fuse, I shorted the fuse, and it works fine, doesnt seem t...

"Bucket Head" Vacuum

"Bucket Head" Vacuum

02-13-2011 09:57 PM by FJPetruso | 5 comments »

I found this Bucket Head Vacuum on display at Home Depot a while back & decided to give it a try. Heck… It’s only 20 bucks & uses an ordinary 5 gallon plastic bucket for collection of dust & chips. (I just happen to have acquired a couple of plastic buckets that have the same rim dimensions but hold about 7-1/2 gsllons & are several inches taller.) There’s no doubt that it’s a cheap vacuum but it works well. The filter is a simple pouch over the suc...

2 hp dust collector

2 hp dust collector

02-04-2011 01:25 AM by tchaser | 18 comments »

I recently purchased a 2 hp dust collector from harbor freight and found, that for the money, it is a very good tool. Assembly was pretty straight forward and took about 2 hours.Yyou should keep a sense of humor when doing that as the instructions are pretty vague and not very accurate as far as descriptions. I bought this to replace a jet DC-650 and it does have considerable more suction pressure and moves a lot more air. All though not as much as the delta counter part which was 3 times the...

Onieda Dust Deputy

Onieda Dust Deputy

I’ve been using my Dust Deputy for several months now and feel it is time to give it a review. The theory is very sound and as long as the plastic stays together it works as advertised. BUT I can’t keep the top on. The glue at the factory failed, the epoxy failed and the “special glue from HD was no better. Evidently the plastic that it is made from is impervious to any kind of glue to keep this sucker together. I complained to their service department and was told to get th...

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

01-23-2011 12:13 AM by patcollins | 6 comments »

My 1970’s Craftsman Contractors saw has zero dust collection and much of it falls straight down so I thought about using some sort of bag for it. I happened on this canvas “Table Saw Dust Bag” at Harbor Freight and it was only $5.99 so I thought I would give it a whirl. The material is pretty cheap and the snaps aren’t anywhere close to being put on straight or even, but that’s alright. The bag came with the male end of the snaps attached to sheet metal scre...

All I wanted was quiet but recieved so much more

All I wanted was quiet but recieved so much more

I’ve been wanting to replace my noisy Rigid only because it’s noisy. I wasn’t expecting all the other features. The wall mount frees up valuable floor space. The hoses are much more flexible than I’m accustom to. They feel more like rubber than plastic. They are the smaller diameter but the the main unit and the hose ends appears to be able to accept the larger (2.25” I think) hoses if you prefer. I like the conventional dust bag. It appears to be an op...
