New Dust Collection System Just installed

New Dust Collection System Just installed

This is one of the most efficient dust collectors I have run across in quite some time. The manufacturers have managed to keep the noise levels down to almost unbelievable readings and kept electric costs down to nearly nothing. However, I have been notified that refrigeration costs have increased in some workshops. I am impressed as to how these items work together as a whole, with the Harper bench brush raking dust onto the floor so that the Publix broom can pull the sawdust away from prob...

Very poorly assembled

Very poorly assembled

I ordered 2 of the Oneida Dust Deputies to set up on two different shop vacs since they were on sale for $39.Opened them up and the tops on both of them were a bit skewed. I pressed on the section that looked like it was not on all the way and POP, off it came. Looked at the second one and barely gave it a tap and …...bummer. I kinda had to laugh because it was not a total surprise after lilredweldingrod’s reviewI was hoping they had remedied this fault by now. After a close...

Disappointment with JET DC-650A 1 Horsepower Dust Collector

Disappointment with JET DC-650A 1 Horsepower Dust Collector

01-18-2010 12:47 AM by Don Newton | 21 comments »

Fellow Jocks, After 25 years of injesting sawdust, a very foolish thing to do, a few months ago I took the plunge and purchased a Jet Dust Collector and AFS-400 Air Filtration System. The Air Filtration System works as it should, but in my opinion the Dust Collector has some design flaws that make me sorry I purchased it. The dust collector is small but should be adequate for my needs. My workshop is in my basement so space is critical and portability is desirable. The Jet DC-650A seeme...

Woodstock International D4241 12" Cyclone Separator

Woodstock International D4241 12" Cyclone Separator

09-02-2012 01:18 PM by SirFatty | 21 comments »

A couple weeks ago I purchased the Porter Cable table saw. One of the features is the dust port sized for a shop vac, and it works really well with my Ridged vacuum. Time for a cyclone separator, since all my sawdust will end up in the shop vac and replacing filters can be costly. There are a lot of separators available, and the price range is fairly wide. I’ve been looking a the offerings from Rockler” and ””Oneida name just a couple. There is a decent review o...

Excellent Custom-sized Washable Air Filter for Shop

Excellent Custom-sized Washable Air Filter for Shop

02-19-2014 03:17 AM by BigRedKnothead | 21 comments »

I have a Jet AFS-400 Air Filter mounted on the ceiling in my shop. I like having it, but I was frustrated with the stock pleated filters. The old filters didn’t hold up well, and they were to expensive to replace often. I’ve seen that Rockler sells a washable electrostatic filter…..but not for my model. So, I hit the internet and found this place: Air Filters Inc out of Nevada. They’ve got a nice website. I priced out the size I needed and was happy to find i...

Good value, but there are issues

Good value, but there are issues

First off, this is a decent DC for my small shop. It is better than a ShopVac, but not at all like a 2HP DC from the major manufacturers. The CFM claims, are skewed. I’m told by a third party (can’t be sure of accuracy) that the CFM test they conduct is without any hoses or other needed attachments. The motor has to have some type of piping and such, so the CFM is not a real measure without them. I paid less than $150 and it does more than $150 of work for me. Happy, but don...

Close to true cyclone performance on a budget.

Close to true cyclone performance on a budget.

I have been getting a few questions about the Thien Cyclones I have been building, and figured I would write a quick review of them, and try to answer the questions I see about them.. For starters a Thien Cyclone Separator is NOT a true cyclone, but does operate in a psuedo cycloninc fashion. Meaning the incoming air stream spins around the outside of the vessel / dust bin and drops its load of dust, and larger particles in much the same way as nearly all the other separator lids do. The B...

Great for small shop using only one tool at time

Great for small shop using only one tool at time

I don’t know how informative this review will be as it’s my first dust collector and review, but I’ll try. I was originally looking at the 50-760 after hearing lots of good reviews, but since I plan on only using one tool at a time and I dont mind rolling this around from tool to tool I didn’t mind something a little cheaper as I was trying to save money (or so I thought), quieter, and smaller. Despite reviews I’ve seen on amazon, this thing was very simple t...

Poor Man's Festool

Poor Man's Festool

05-11-2010 04:05 AM by PurpLev | 20 comments »

Intro For the longest time I wanted to get the Festool CT-33 (I would also be satisfied with the 22 version) as I believe that to be the flagship unit of the company – sure they make exceptional tools, but this one is by far their best contender in my opinion. Problem is – for my hobby use, it’s just beyond what I can justify to spend on a small dust extractor. A month ago, someone posted the PC 7810 vacuum on craigslist, but it was in a very used condition, and I felt...
