Good for a Black & Decker

Good for a Black & Decker

This was my first real drill. I know Black & Decker gets a lot of knocks here, but it really wasn’t too bad a drill. I’ve had this drill for probably 5 years. I’ve done a lot of home improvements with it. This includes: Installation of a new garage door opener Putting up a patio lattice made of all pressure treated lumber (6×8s, 4×8x, 4×4s, 2×6s) Various wood working projects (mostly shelves and storage). I have used it to drill 3...

Bosch Pocket Driver Packs a Punch

Bosch Pocket Driver Packs a Punch

I really like my new pocket driver. Bosch has reinvented the cordless driver, and it leaves nothing to be desired. The way it fits in your hand makes you feel like a cowboy. No kidding. It really makes it want to practice your quick-draw. Due to it’s Li Ion battery it only weighs 4.88 lbs but delivers 80 in.-lbs. of Torque with a variable speed trigger. The LED light is the icing on the cake. I like my heavy duty DeWalt 14v cordless drill for boring holes but sometimes I go back a...

Milwaukee 2799-22CX M18 Compact Brushless Hammer Drill/Brushless Impact Combo Kit

new hotness vs old busted BACKGROUNDI was a Dewalt guy for years, and have had an old nicad drill and driver for the last 10 years or so that have served me well, but after my old drill got dropped on the concrete floor and cracked, I decided to treat myself to a brushless setup. I had been wanting to go brushless for awhile and this was the excuse I needed. I pretty much settled on the Milwaukee line due to a variety of factors, including the availability of the 18/12v combo charging ...

FastCap Taper Lock Bit Holder

FastCap Taper Lock Bit Holder

I purchased this because I wanted to make myself a screwdriver, but I am now going to have to get one or two more for my electric drivers. The only difference between the one I got in the mail and the one pictured in the second picture is the shank is black on mine. Why I love it: -Small profile, hardly bigger than any other bit holder you would put in to your driver-Almost no play in the bit at all-Holds the bit SECURELY! It has a magnetic thing going on but it also has some kind of fr...

My first REAL cordless driver!

My first REAL cordless driver!

Bought this 18V Lithium-Ion Drill-Driver from Home Hardware, refurbished, for $190 CDN. Sound steep? Well, I’ve got to tell you, it’s worth every penny! I used to do home renovations for fun and now I’ve gotten into professional contracting. I’d gone through a few cheapie cordless drills just with the around-the-house use and I was never happy with them. They were never robust enough (any screws over 2” and I wouldn’t have even tried the cordless). ...

Milwaukee 2897-22 Drill and Impact Driver Kit

Milwaukee 2897-22 Drill and Impact Driver Kit

I didn’t see any reviews on the recent Milwaukee line of FUEL drills/impacts/tools on LJ’s yet, so here’s my contribution. I recently bought the drill/impact driver kit. It’s the M18 kit with the items shown in the stock photo above. The batteries are 5.0 amp hour and last a LLLOOOOONNNNGGG time. I couldn’t get one to heat up either when using it hard, so that’s a good sign. The drill: Not much heavier than my 14.4 volt makita. Has more RPM’s, a...

Little green screwdriving man

I bought this to replace my 18v DeWalt hammer drill as my go-to screwdriver. I got the hex chuck version – it’s nice to be able to slip bits in and not have to deal with tightening the chuck. You can also get drill bits and countersinks in hex shank, so if you need to use it for those functions as well, you can. My primary objective with this purchase was to get something lighter, and therefore easier to get into tight spots and to reduce the strain on my arm when doing a lot...

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

I’ve had this combo set for just over a year now. Overall they work good. The Nicad batteries aren’t as long lasting as I would have hoped. When I had the chance I upgraded to Lithuim batteries. That was an improvement. The drill has its quirks. The chuck isn’t the best. Once in a while the driver or a drill bit comes loose when using it. I have learned to tighten the chuck after a few uses. The cordless saw isn’t bad, but I upgraded to a better blade (the norm). ...

Great Tool and Even Better Customer Service From Home Depot

Great Tool and Even Better Customer Service From Home Depot

Wife purchased an additional smoke detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector today, which required me to get out the drill. I received this as a gift last year after my prior drill of 10 years died. I really do not need much more than this as I really do not have a need. So it meets my needs. It is comfortable to hold and use, the battery life is very good, as is the ability to perform as a drill and driver and general uses as a flap sander, wire wheel distress-er etc . I use it in the sho...

A Very Nice Surprise

A Very Nice Surprise

I recently got one of the PS40-2 Impactors as a freebie from a WoodSmith Tip they picked up of mine. I felt I owed it to Bosch (and August Home Publishing) to let my fellow jocks here about the product. I just got it three days ago so I’ll preface all by saying that I obviously am speaking from first and very limited impressions. This is the first impact driver I’ve used. I’ve picked it up at Lowe’s a dozen times and thought it was very small and possibly very...
