It’s been nearly two years since I purchased my Ryobi D46CK driver drill to replace an old Craftsman drill that had been on long term loan a little too long… The features I liked about this particular drill were the fact that it had a keyless chuck, with a good, predictable chuck. The blow molded case helps with storage and at least TRYING to keep my shop tidy. Power from this drill has been great, after Hurricane Ike I used it with a 1.5” long shaft (18”) spade ...

A Very Nice Surprise

A Very Nice Surprise

I recently got one of the PS40-2 Impactors as a freebie from a WoodSmith Tip they picked up of mine. I felt I owed it to Bosch (and August Home Publishing) to let my fellow jocks here about the product. I just got it three days ago so I’ll preface all by saying that I obviously am speaking from first and very limited impressions. This is the first impact driver I’ve used. I’ve picked it up at Lowe’s a dozen times and thought it was very small and possibly very...

Impulse buy review: Porter Cable 12v drill/driver combo has died

Impulse buy review: Porter Cable 12v drill/driver combo has died

I am reviewing my 12v Li-Ion Porter Cable drill/driver combo. I bought these one day walking through the big box store where they were on an end cap display. At $100 for a set, minus military discount it seemed like a no brained. I quickly read over the cherry picked stats on the box and went off to the register, completely forgetting the grass seed that I had gone to the store for in the first place. I was in the middle of building a bar project (which can be seen in my other posts) and t...

A little pricey, but worth it.

A little pricey, but worth it.

Bought this when I did the drawers for the lego table. My Ryobi drill wouldn’t fit in some of the places I needed it too. I also bought the 3/8 chuck for the drill. In my opinion, these tools preform as designed. I have driven 3 1/2” drywall screws into pine 2×4s with no pilot hole with no problem. Plenty of power. The impact driver is a bit noisy, but that is to be expected. For assebly with screws, they simply cant be beat. I find myself reaching for the drill more of...

Milwaukee 3/8" hammer drill

Milwaukee 3/8" hammer drill

This is a review, hence it is just my opinion. To the best of knowledge the picture is a true and actual representation of the item I am reviewing. Sorry about the above but others have made these little disclaimers necessary. So onto the drill. Yep, I give it 5 stars after what I just put it through. I just tapped about 30 holes in 1/2” aluminum (7/16” x 14tpi) with this little puppy and it did not flinch one bit. I have had this drill for quite sometime now and have used it for a...

Combo model # CLPK27-120Driver model # PS30BImpact model # PS40B12 volt lithium ion batteries. 30 minute charger. I have been using these for the past 3 days in my day job and in the shop. No problems at all. The main reason I went with these as they are lighter than the 18v combo sets. Here is my video review. Pros:lightcheapstrongLED lightbattery indicator on impact Cons:none so far

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

Porter-Cable PC218C-2 PORTER-CABLE 18-Volt Cordless Drill & Circular Saw Combo

I’ve had this combo set for just over a year now. Overall they work good. The Nicad batteries aren’t as long lasting as I would have hoped. When I had the chance I upgraded to Lithuim batteries. That was an improvement. The drill has its quirks. The chuck isn’t the best. Once in a while the driver or a drill bit comes loose when using it. I have learned to tighten the chuck after a few uses. The cordless saw isn’t bad, but I upgraded to a better blade (the norm). ...

My old Makita Hammer drill was 150 miles away so I slipped off to Home Depot and perused their tools. The Ridgid Hammer Drill was on sale and another 20% off so I bought it. It also came with a tool bag which is nice. Loved the weight, not too heavy like some. I like the way it felt in my hand, liked the chuck with the key, the depth stop device and the quick remove add on handle (have no idea why one needs that with only 7 amps). Also like the cord that lights up when plugged in and th...

Ryobi Right-Angle Drill

Ryobi Right-Angle Drill

11-24-2008 08:07 PM by ferstler | 0 comments »

I used this drill in conjunction with a Ridgid right-angle impact driver (also reviewed previously) to install some crown moldings on kitchen cabinets that I installed some years back. My wife and an interior designer she hired made the suggestion and I always follow my wife’s suggestions. The drill was used to help secure hidden backer boards to the cabinet top edges. I had already attached the backers to the moldings out in my workshop. The Ryobi unit worked just fine in that tight...

FastCap Taper Lock Bit Holder

FastCap Taper Lock Bit Holder

02-27-2014 09:34 PM by Spur | 1 comment »

I purchased this because I wanted to make myself a screwdriver, but I am now going to have to get one or two more for my electric drivers. The only difference between the one I got in the mail and the one pictured in the second picture is the shank is black on mine. Why I love it: -Small profile, hardly bigger than any other bit holder you would put in to your driver-Almost no play in the bit at all-Holds the bit SECURELY! It has a magnetic thing going on but it also has some kind of fr...
