My DeWalt 18 Volt 4 piece Combo Kit

My DeWalt 18 Volt 4 piece Combo Kit

Over the years I’ve gone through many low end mediocre battery powered drills. I think this set is going to last me a long time. When you put one of these in your hand, you can tell, just by the feel, that you’re holding a quality tool. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hammer Drill Features: Variable speed Dewalt built high-torque motor delivers 500 in-lbs. of maximum torque, 2,000 rpm & 34,000 Beats/Minute. I’ve used this drill...

Took a chance with 12V ...

I was at HD comparing the 18/20V monster DeWalt and Rigid cordless drills and impact drivers. I was looking for an all around good drill/driver kit that I can use in the shop but also around the house for odds and ends. I don’t have any serious construction projects in the foreseeable future, so I didn’t need the 20V power house stuff that can drive 500 3” deck screws into treated lumber. One thing I really liked was the size/weight of the 12V lines. I compared the Milw...

Makits Combo Driver and Drill set....

Makits Combo Driver and Drill set....

1357 days ago by lilredweldingrod | 21 comments »

For years I have used Makita cordless tools. I was using my 9.6 volt drill about two years ago when a friend came by and began to brag on his 18 volt Dewalt drill/driver. This prompted me to start looking around for an 18 volt set to replace my rather gutless 25 year old unit.We were in Home Depot and they were having a sale on combo kits and if you bought the kit, they would throw in an extra battery free. There was the Makita combo kit with the charger and two batteries for $279.00. We che...

light and strong

light and strong

This drill is great. It has plenty of power. The best part is it only wieghs about 3 lbs. I bought this drill about one month ago. It seems like I haven’t put is down since. I looked over several drills before I bought this one. Most woodworkers can do fine with a 14.4v drill. I looked at several of them. I figured I could get one that wieghs less than a 14.4v, but was stronger at the same time. That is why I chose this. Another cool feature is the LED light right above the trigger. I ...

drill assesment

drill assesment

I have had this drill for about 2 1/2 years and i want to now give my thoughts on this drill and how it has performed. first of all i will have to be truly honest about this and wont sugar coat this one bit. the drill out of the gate was a big disappointment, it had hardly any power, but it did have enough to do the small screws i was using at the time, but as time went on i became less and less happy with its performance and decided to take it in for repair, there were several issues, one,...

Bosch PS30 -- whole lotta torque

Bosch PS30 -- whole lotta torque

1893 days ago by Jim | 6 comments »

My 18V Makita finally died and I needed a replacement. I decided to get a more compact drill driver because I wanted to be able to get inside drawers, tight spaces, etc., not to mention the handyness of carrying a smaller tool. The PS30 isn’t as small as the PS20. The chuck is 3/8” – which I also wanted. And that’s what I got—not as big as a 1/2” drive, not as small as a 1/4”. Heavier and more powerful than just a driver but not as heavy as an 18V...

I haven’t been able to use the drill as much as the driver but I can definitely say that I’m very happy with this set! The impact driver takes NO effort to operate and the size and weight are a HUGE improvement over my standard Ni-Cad DeWalt! The ergonomics are perfect! The belt clip comes in very handy and you can flip the clip to the correct side for normal left-handed people ;) Heck, the charger itself is very impressive! 1hr charge time, cooling fan, maintenance mode, etc. I or...

Not a bad little mini-driver but would look for the TEK4 version

Not a bad little mini-driver but would look for the TEK4 version

I have been looking for a mini-driver that I could put in my pocket for small tasks around the shop and assembly work. I have the Ridgid 18v cordless for the larger tasks but it is sometimes a pain in the hip (literally) to have on my holster. Since I pre-drill all my holes before adding fasteners, I just needed a light duty driver for screws. This would give me the flexibility of having a drill already prepped with a bit for drilling and another set for driving. I didn’t want to invest...

Dewalt DCD970KL review

Dewalt DCD970KL review

I bought this drill to replace my Dewalt DC925, which fell off a roof and landed in a big nasty mud hole, I just figured the drill was toast and ordered a new one, saved the 925 for salvageable parts. The DCD950 and the DCD970 are the EXACT same drill except the clutch ring, which is black on the 950 and silver on the 970. The difference is the batteries that are included 950 has the XRPs and 970 has the new NANO’s(lithium-ion). OK, back to the comparison Pros of the DCD970/950 VS. the ...

Light, strong and well balanced

Light, strong and well balanced

I’ve been using the 12V Rigid cordless you can see in the photo for quite some time. I figured a cordless drill is a cordless drill, but once I held this Makita in my hand, I was forever changed. Pros: Power: This little guy is loaded with torque. Trigger speed control: The range from just barely turning to fully wound up is all accessible. The trigger has good resistance and feedback. Once you’ve found the sweet spot for the task at hand, it’s easy to repeat....
