Powerful 18 Volt Cordless Drill/Driver with Lifetime Warranty!

Right now, February, 2008, Ridgid is phasing out its line of NiCad batery tools and phasing in their new Lithium Ion line. So they are making their tools capable of accepting either style batterys! But that will not make a big difference because they offer a lifetime service for the tool and the batterys that power them! After replacing my Craftsman batterys just last year and having them going south now, I decided top grab a Ridgid tool set while Home Depot has them on clearance sale. I ...

Rigid Collated Screw Gun. Drive about 20 screws / minute (with video)

Rigid Collated Screw Gun. Drive about 20 screws / minute (with video)

I’ve started renovating the house. This tool might not be used a lot in the shop but for this use it’s pretty nice. Lot’s of tearing down and lots of new sheetrock going up. Also lots of backerboard and subfloor. I dread all the screws. I came across this rigid (made by Senco) collated screwgun at HD. It is a corded drill that has a mechanism to hold a plastic tape of drywall or flooring screws. They feed up through a slot automatically. The mechanism that feeds them is simp...

Great cordless drill for an awesome price

Great cordless drill for an awesome price

I never go shopping on Black Friday…ever. Except that on Thursday morning I saw Home Depot advertising this Dewal drill for $99 (regularly $199). So I dragged my butt out of bed at 6am to go buy one. I have been using an older B&D corded drill that was given to me by a family member. It ceratinly gets the job done, but I have issues with non-hex bits slipping when using larger bits as well as some other minor issues. When I saw this drill for $99, including the drill, case,...

Craftsman C3 19.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Compact Drill DD2100 - Review

Craftsman C3 19.2-Volt Lithium-Ion Compact Drill DD2100 - Review

I recently purchased a new Craftsman Power Drill DD2100 from Sears.  I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and I have to say so far, I have NO complaints.  In fact I think it’s as solid a drill as I’ve ever used.  The drill came as part of a kit, and I was able to pick it up for $109 (on sale) from Sears.  For the price I think it’s a great bargain.  I was able to replace my old 19.2 cadmium battery-powered drill with a new high-end one for about $100, and s...

Ridgid 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill Driver and Impact Driver Combo Kit $179

Ridgid 18-Volt Lithium Ion Drill Driver and Impact Driver Combo Kit $179

My old 14 volt batteries are getting tired, the chuck is wearing out and the drill is getting a bit loose. It is still very serviceable, but is is pre-lifetime warranty. The cost of batteries is prohibitive as compared to just replacing the whole thing with a new drill, battery and charger. Especially with life time warranty on the new batteries. A few months ago I read a review about the newer 18 volt Ridgid drill being a little short on battery time. I decided to pass and just shop fo...

Hilti hammer drill / with 1/2" keyed detachable chuck

Hilti hammer drill / with 1/2" keyed detachable chuck

This is a review for a drill that I’ve been using for a few years now. I will not do reviews on tools that I have not owned or new tools that I haven’t put through some serious use. I had second thoughts about posting this review, Hilti wasn’t even listed in the tools that have been reviewd in this forum. And the cost of the tool not exactly being in the range of most hobby type woodworkers I realize that many would have no use for such a tool. But I know that there are many...

Ryobi 18v Impact Driver

Ryobi 18v Impact Driver

07-14-2009 06:10 AM by JMG | 12 comments »

I bought this impact to replace an old DeWalt driver. I got the driver, a compact drill, 2 compact lithium batteries, and a charger for only $179 instead of a new DeWalt impact with no battery for $279. Sounded like a good deal so I jumped on it even though the Ryobi’s torque didn’t come close to the DeWalt(880 in/lbs for the Ryobi and 1,330 in/lbs for the DeWalt). The Ryobi struggled to drive lags into the old petrified wood of the house I was adding the deck on. It also bogg...

Great heavy-duty corded drill

Great heavy-duty corded drill

(pic from the Milwaukee tools website)As I continue my home improvement adventures and transition into woodworking as well, it seems logical to try to share as much info as possible. So this review I guess is my official end to lurking and beginning of contributing to the community. My motivation for buying this drill was that I burned out my old Dewalt 3/8” drill trying to mix some thinset for tiling. The Dewalt drill was great, but clearly not geared for this kind of work. So it...

Makita LCT 209 Combo Kit: Does size really matter? It does when you’re using a cordless drill or driver all day or when you find yourself working over your head or in tight spaces, like building or installing kitchen cabinets. Makita recently introduced its 12 volt, LCT 209 12volt Combo Kit that includes the 3/8” Drill (model #FD02), the ¼” Impact Driver (model #DT01) and the battery charger (model #DC10WB) and what a combination it is. A versatile, light weight, well balanced combinati...

Lithium-ion 18Volt Impact Driver/Driver Drill/Flashlight

Lithium-ion 18Volt Impact Driver/Driver Drill/Flashlight

I bought this drill/driver for a deck for my daughter, my Ridged batteries were dying a fast death. A side note on the construction. I bought a Hitachi 18 volt drill and ratched drill at Lowes for $229.00 before I went. Model WH 18DSAL Hitachi site I charged up both batteries. Everything worked great. All joyce hangers, screws up to 3 1/2”, decking boards, facia boards stairs were attached with the two screw guns. It required an additional charge on each battry and a second charge on...
