Right now, February, 2008, Ridgid is phasing out its line of NiCad batery tools and phasing in their new Lithium Ion line. So they are making their tools capable of accepting either style batterys! But that will not make a big difference because they offer a lifetime service for the tool and the batterys that power them! I’ve been using a couple of offshore 18 volt Ni cads for about a year as my Dewalts wont hold a charge any longer and I saw no advantage to replacing their batteries.I had been looking at the Ridgid standard 18 volt Li cordless but when I saw this one at the Borg I had to try it. I was looking for a small driver so that I wouldn’t keep having to swap bits out in my drill. I wasn’t really looking for an impact driver, but then I found about the rebate Bosch is currently having. Buy an impact driver and get a PS20 (non-impact version) for free. Now it doesn’t include a battery but the PS40 does include 2. So now I get both for the price of one. I got it for the out the door price of $142. How does it perform? Well, I drove a #8×3” deck...

This drill has alot of long lasting power and when the battery goes dead..it’s dead! We received 2 batteries and it doesn’t take long to recharge the dead one. The downfall I have with this-the bit loosens when in reverse. You really have to hold to tighten the chuck…but for me the bit still drops on the floor. I may find something to add around it as the plastic tends to just slip from my grip and it can hurt. With the 18V it’s a bit on the heavier side but the power ...

This drill is great. It has plenty of power. The best part is it only wieghs about 3 lbs. I bought this drill about one month ago. It seems like I haven’t put is down since. I looked over several drills before I bought this one. Most woodworkers can do fine with a 14.4v drill. I looked at several of them. So, this guy comes to the office to help one of the girls get into a cabinet that had a lost key. I heard all kinds of racket going on over there and thought I better sniff around. My boss went to Lowes Hardware the other night and came back and handed me this combo set of drill and impact. Lowes has this on sale this week for only $149. The Impact by itself sells for $129. I used it all day Friday and let me tell you. This impact alone has more power than the regular 12 volt Hitachi impact driver. And light.
