14" Band Saw Riser Kit for Harbor Freight Band Saw

14" Band Saw Riser Kit for Harbor Freight Band Saw

1894 days ago by FJPetruso | 22 comments »

About 5 years ago I purchased a Harbor Freight Band Saw & the Riser Kit. I never installed the riser kit & stored it away until I needed it. Last month I failed to use my metal detector & while resawing some walnut I hit a foot peg, like the ones linemen screw into power poles, that the tree had completely grew around & ruined my band saw blade. So I took this opportunity to install the riser kit. I figured I would be playing with & tuning the saw up the whole day. Bu...

Lenox Bandsaw blade

Lenox Bandsaw blade

2371 days ago by Tony | 15 comments »

Up until recently I have been using standard Band saw blade without much success, I tend to cut and re-saw a lot of white oak upto 12” in width. It was recomended to try the Lenox Tri-maste carbide tiped blade. It is a little expensive at about $140 for a 3/4” 3TPI x 136”, but boy was it worth it, I have just used it today, for all kinds of cuts on white Oak, including a 12” resaw of a board 8’ long, it was like a hot knife through butter – with vitually...

A Worthy bandsaw blade

A Worthy bandsaw blade

I have been using these blades for years now and they are fantastic. They do a great jog resawing. They create no vibration and noise due to their variable tooth spacing from 3 to 4 TPI. Leaves a great finish also.I have cut perfect .093” think slices off of an 11 1/2” board. Fine Woodworking April 2004 has rated their Wood Slicer blade as “Best All-Round Performer” in their independent test for speed, flatness and smoothness! It also has a very thin blade of .022”. At...

Logging Arch to move medium size logs

Logging Arch to move medium size logs

1093 days ago by HalDougherty | 8 comments »

I found a great logging arch for sale on Craig’s List last week. It was located about 300 miles from my shop, but the seller was kind enough to meet me 100 miles closer. That was a big help and saved me about 3 hours of driving time. The American Bandsaw company makes a great product to move logs. The model I bought used is a 24-12 arch. It is designed to move a log 12’ long, 24” in diameter and 3000 lbs in weight. The sycamore log in the first photo is 24” on the ...

Craftsman Bandsaw Fence - good bang for the buck

Craftsman Bandsaw Fence - good bang for the buck

1509 days ago by Jeison | 15 comments »

I spotted this while wandering through Sears the other day, and since my little 10” benchtop bandsaw doesn’t have a fence, and I plan picking up the Porter Cable 14” that Lowes has (which I know does not come with a fence) I figured for $40, this universal fence (which boldly claims to fit all models of bandsaws) would be a good investment (Being a hobbyist and “weekend woodworker” I don’t need the hyper-accuracy and features of one of the $150+ models̷...

Carter Bandsaw guides

Carter Bandsaw guides

2337 days ago by rikkor | 12 comments »

My main reason for getting a large bandsaw was for resawing boards up to eight inches wide. The performance I was getting from the Grizzly was less than satisfactory. Then, I was at a woodworking show, and the guy from Carter was sawing slices less than 1/8” thick, and very smooth from a chunk of walnut. He said it was due to guide bearings that were specifically designed for resawing. I had to have this! I almost choked when I saw the price, but I bought it anyway. It took about 45 min...

Grizzly H3051 Riser Block Kit (for G0555) but also fits Ridgid BS1400

Grizzly H3051 Riser Block Kit (for G0555) but also fits Ridgid BS1400

I recently purchased and assembled a Ridgid 14” floor model bandsaw (the BS1400). I had also ordered and received the 6” riser kit from Grizzly that is made for their G0555 14” bandsaw, but also fits several of the other 14” bandsaws: Ridgid, Craftsman, Cummins, Summit, and others. It ran about $80 shipped, which is half what the Ridgid kit costs (if you can get one). This kit is rated 5 stars by 19 of 22 reviewers on Amazon, with the other three 4’s and 3...

Just Get This One

Just Get This One

When I first got my Grizzly bandsaw, I was pretty disappointed with the results with the blade provided. I always knew I needed to get a better one and I was hesitant to use the tool because the experience wasn’t very nice. For an upcoming project, I decided now was the time to get a new blade. I checked the reviews here on lumberjocks and finewoodworking.com and decided to get this blade. It arrived today and after spending a few minutes getting it installed I was ready for a test c...

Believe The Hype!

Believe The Hype!

The Wood Slicer bandsaw blades from Highland Woodworking are awesome. When I first purchased my “Rikon 14 deluxe bandsaw my local Woodcraft store said that the 1/2” blade that came with it was pretty good. I took their advice on that, and also purchased a 3/4” 3TPI Timber Wolf blade for resawing. Both seemed to work, but my results were so-so. For the first real challenge I resawed some green cherry logs for turning blanks. I started with the blade that came with the saw. Meh. It really...

Great resaw blade

Great resaw blade

2368 days ago by johnjoiner | 3 comments »

Just after Christmas I got two new band saw blades from Iturra Design (no web site) in Florida. The blade I’m reviewing here is a 105” 3/4” woodslicer 3/4 TPI. (That means it’s variable, 3 teeth in one inch, 4 the next) for $21.20. Along with Mark Duginske and his Band Saw Handbook, the guys at Iturra are band saw gurus. I believed in them before, but I hadn’t bought into their recommendations on blades. I don’t know what I was thinking. My saw is a 3/4...
