Great Bandsaw Blade

Great Bandsaw Blade

01-05-2013 05:05 AM by NormG | 8 comments »

After Reading MBS’ review I ordered the same blade. It arrived today while I was at work. Very well packaged and in good shape. After dinner, I went out to the shop and installed on my newer Craftsman 12” 89 1/2” blade (Similar to the Rikon). It is a great saw. After about 15 minutes of setup it was ready to go. Blade is noticeably quieter than the Timber Wolf blades I have been using. I followed the instructions and used a slower rate to break the blade in. The I ...

Moffatt Task Lamp for Laguna 1412

Moffatt Task Lamp for Laguna 1412

Moffatt 95050 Task Lamp, Incandescent/Halogen Lamp Type, Direct Mount Base Type, 24” Arm Length, 100 Watts, 1690 Raw Lumens. About $52 on Amazon. Here’s the Moffat task light mounted on the Laguna 1412 bandsaw, really works well. It’s very heavy duty, has a nice toggle on/off switch, takes a standard base 110v bulb, and made in USA. I used a Phillips 60-watt halogen flood bulb, nice ‘warm’ light which is kind to my old eyes! Best of all, it’s almost infinitely positionable to where ...

Starrett Bimetal Band saw blades

Starrett Bimetal Band saw blades

I saw a bi metal blade working at Degoose’s workshop, Larry demomstrated cutting a couple of rips from some timber and the results were very impressive. He cut two runs from a length of timber and produced very accurate results from his band saw fitted with a new Kreg fence. With this in mind I decided to try it for myself on my bandsaw, which BTW is notorious for cutting where ever it wants to, generally not where the operator wants it to go. So I purchased two Blades:-1×224...

Powermatic Bandsaw 6 inch riser block

Powermatic Bandsaw 6 inch riser block

09-13-2011 04:09 PM by 489tad | 7 comments »

I have a project that will require 8” resawing. I purchased from Woodcraft the Powermatic 6” riser block for my PM 14” bandsaw. The kit includes the riser block, blade guard, bolt washer nut, guide post, upper wheel blade guard, 105” saw blade and instructions. All the parts were well packed. The riser block had one paint bubble on the mating surface that I remove with a file. The directions are clear and installation was easy. I did need the help of my son to ...

Great blades

Great blades

This is a 3 TPI blade from M K Morse. It is a carbide tipped blade and is used in industry for cutting aluminum castings. This review won’t let me post all the photos but I first used a bi-metal blade from a vendor I really like. I could not get it to track straight. (I set my saw up using Michael Fortune’s method so I don’t get any drift.)I installed this blade according to Fortune’s method. This is a 1/2” blade but I was advised to only tension it to a 3/8”...

First Re-Saw with this blade

First Re-Saw with this blade

07-23-2013 12:42 AM by Adam | 7 comments »

I had purchased a 1 hp King bandsaw for $80 off Kijiji (Canada’s Craig List) and gage it a complete overhaul and added a 6” riser kit to it. I purchased a Little Ripper Bandsaw blade for $36 from R&D Bandsaws are located in Brampton, Ontario, just 30 min from me. This is my first real experience re-sawing anything substantial with it and it worked very well. This is 12” of hard maple and the surface finish is not the best but that is because I kept on stopping a sta...

Great customer service

Great customer service

This isn’t a blade review, but I’ve bought several and been pleased with all of them. (I recommend the 3-pack for the price and versatility – one for curves, one for rip and one for reswaw for less than $100.) Will continue to buy from them, especially now. Not long ago I ordered a replacement 3/4” and I could not get the thing to stop wobbling at least 1/4 inch back and forth. Messed with every adjustment imaginable and nothing worked. I thought maybe I even screwed u...

Space Age Ceramics bandsaw guides

Space Age Ceramics bandsaw guides

I have two bandsaws, a newer 18” Rikon and an old Cast Iron 16” Grizzly. The Rikon is permanently set up to resew and the Grizzly is set up with a 1/4” blade for curved work. I installed Space Age Ceramics Guides on the Ricon over a year ago and have had Carter Guides on the Grizzly for about two years. Both saws get a lot of use in my shop. After resewing a lot of Hardwood making veneers for over a year now on the Rikon, I am very happy with the Ceramic guides. They ar...

Carter RIK1 Stabilizer for Rikon saws

Carter RIK1 Stabilizer for Rikon saws

This actually works. I cannot add much that isnt covered in the youtube videos Carter has up. I was 50/50 on buying it as I thought it may be hype. But it works great. I cut some amazing curves with it and now think it wasnt that expensive after all. OK for $80 it is expensive. Hopefully the bearing is a good one and I would assume it must be as its constantly engaged with the blade. Check out the promo vids Carter has. I am not affiliated at all. My real life experience matches what is...

Crank Makes the Bansaw Fun to Use Again

Crank Makes the Bansaw Fun to Use Again

I was frustruated by the factory blade tensioning knob on my Jet 14” bandsaw. It didn’t extend above the cover of the saw, so you bang your knuckles every turn you make. Plus the factory knob took forever to tension the blade. The Big Horn crank is quick and easy to use. The crank is above the saw – so no more banged knuckles. It is so quick that I am no longer considering a Carter quick-release. The $15 price and free delivery on Amazon was icing on the cake.
