Porter-Cable 10" Job Site table saw

Porter-Cable 10" Job Site table saw

Review of the PorterCable PCB220 Job site saw. I am a relative newcomer to woodworking and the only comparison I have for this saw is my old Delta Shopmaster TS200. So as they say…your mileage may vary. Specs from the Lowes website (I have not been able to find this saw on the PorterCable site):UL Safety Listing No CSA Safety Listing Yes ETL Safety Listing No Blade Size (Inches) 10.0 Arbor Size (Inches) 0.625 Drive Motor System Direct Amps 15.0 Bevel Capacity (Degrees) 45.0 Aluminum...

Grizzly G0453 15" Planer

Grizzly G0453 15" Planer

06-04-2009 08:18 AM by Don K. | 43 comments »

Well As I recently stated….I did some serious upgrades in the old shop in the last few weeks, bought a new cabinet saw, new band saw, new jointer and a new planer. This first review will be over the new G0453 15” planer. (actually my second review…the jointer was a few weeks ago) I did some serious thinking about which planer to buy….but decided to go with a new Grizzly since I have had such good luck with my Grizzly jointer. While I really wished I could have went ...

Grizzly G0458 18" Open End Drum Sander

Grizzly G0458 18" Open End Drum Sander

I finally got a chance to spend some time with the drum sander and I though I’d give you my impressions. http://grizzly.com/products/18-1-1-2-HP-Single-Phase-Open-End-Drum-Sander/G0458 It arrived largely assembled except for the stand. It weighs a metric ton, so while I moved it and mounted it myself I’d highly recommend getting someone to help you. If you don’t have a mobile base you’re not going to be able to move this very easily. I ran a few boards throu...

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

Ridgid BS1400 Band Saw

Note: while this review is of the BS1400 model, the owner’s manual calls it the BS14002. I do not know if the addition of the number 2 signifies an upgrade or is just the full number not listed correctly in the catalog. The earlier “gray” version might have been the plain, old BS1400. In any case, the one being reviewed here is the orange version seen easily at any Home Depot store, usually selling for about $350. OK, this is a pretty basic band saw in the old style. It c...

Bosch Table Saw

Bosch Table Saw

This saw is great. I needed a portable saw that was accurate and this fit the bill. All I can say is BUY THIS SAW if you are in the market for something portable. It has everything you want in a table saw. Dust collection is good with a shop vac and I like that the miter gauge is full size and not a ‘mini’ one that come with most portable saws. The fence is aluminum with built in T-track which is very nice. It’s quiet and has a soft-start. I was especially impressed with t...

First Dovetails Ever. Easy as Pie with the Akeda BC24 Dovetail Jig

First Dovetails Ever. Easy as Pie with the Akeda BC24 Dovetail Jig

First, Some BackgroundThere’s one thing I should clarify so you’ll put this jig in the proper perspective: I’ve never made a dovetail. Not by hand, not by machine. I’ve never even seen a dovetail jig used (except on New Yankee Workshop). To be perfectly honest, I didn’t (until this morning) know the difference between a pin and a tail. That being said, I have aspirations of building fine furniture of my own design some day. And with those aspirations in mind, I try to make each tool p...

Poulan Pro PP5020AV 20" Bar 50cc Engine

Poulan Pro PP5020AV 20" Bar 50cc Engine

08-09-2012 05:29 PM by Dallas | 18 comments »

To start, I want to mention I started a couple of threads on the subject of chainsaws. To begin with, I wasn’t happy having to buy a Poulan….... ANYTHING…... I’ve had my share of problems with those engines and understand the well deserved nickname of “pullin’” Some of those old saws and weed eaters wouldn’t start with starting fluid and and a stick of dynamite. However, this saw seems to be different. I bought it (Poulan Pro PP5020AV) ...

Harbor Freight Tools Work Bench affordable and useful

Harbor Freight Tools Work Bench affordable and useful

I bought this Bench on sale for 159 dollars. plus tax for a total of 175.( I know TN sales tax is high). The Bench was easily put together in about 2 hours. I have to say for the money I dont think you could buy the wood to make your own workbench. I needed a workbench instead of using a door setting on top of 2 old speakers as a work table. The table top is flat and is finger jointed oak, The drawer sides and bottoms are not solid oak but MDF. All the rest of the bench is oak. The inst...

Hitachi C10FL Hybrid Table Saw - Awesome saw for the money

Hitachi C10FL Hybrid Table Saw - Awesome saw for the money

I just bought this saw ($499 – 15%(Promo) – 10% (coupon) -$100 (gift card thru MIR), and I love it. This is my second table saw, and I am far from a professional woodworker (that is why I bought a $500 TS ;), and not a $1000+ Jet table saw). I have used it with pine and cedar in the month that I have had it. It cut great through both, even when using the dado blade. This saw is not perfect, but it is a lot better than the others in the same price range. Here are the pros, and cons (and no I d...

Craftsman "All-in-one" Rotary Cutting Tool

Craftsman "All-in-one" Rotary Cutting Tool

I bought this tool off of Ebay a couple years ago and although the price was very good (less than $60.00) this tool just don’t “cut it” with me. First off, it’s very loud. Loud enough that you need hearing protection. Secondly, it creates a ton of dust and blows it all around, requiring respiratory protection, a shop vac, mop and bucket, as well as a shower when you’re done. So here’s some more pros and cons that I have found. PROS Plunge router base, c...
