Elbo articulated hollower

Elbo articulated hollower

I just set up this new tool and hollowed this piece of firewood( 8×5w ) to 6 inches. Very easy to use. (I have hollowed by hand, so I do know how) Anyone who has a modest amount of turning experience will find it relatively easy to do. I got this from Packard Woodworks and I believe it is the least expensive on the market at this time. The bad? One of the grub screws was already stripped before I even put it together. One of the long bolts that clamp the holder on the quill, was sh...

Trend 60T Saw Blade / Trend Blade & Bit Cleaner- I LIKE IT!

Trend 60T Saw Blade / Trend Blade & Bit Cleaner- I LIKE IT!

I’m an impulse buyer. Throw something on an end cap with a bright sign on it and it’s in my shopping cart faster that you can say “my wife is going to be cheesed off…” So I only had to walk past this deal at Woodcraft before I was ready to pull out my wallet. It’s a 60 tooth, ATB fine finish blade by Trend. The regular price is $60, which is the usual range for a good quality blade. (If you want premium, you have to go over a hundred). But the sale was f...

Grizzly G0490X 8" Jointer with spiral cutter head

Grizzly G0490X 8" Jointer with spiral cutter head

My new machine arrived nicely packaged. No complaints about missing parts or damage. Was actually not too heavy to move into the basement with the help of two friends. Assembly took a little while – the harder part being aligning and tightening the belt. In fact, I think my belt is still too loose, as at start-up and shut-down the machine makes a bit more noise than I’ve read others with the same machine were able to achieve. Fit and finish on the machine is adequate- on the pa...

Worst tool I've ever purchased

Worst tool I've ever purchased

424 days ago by Rick M. | 20 comments »

Some years back I needed another adjustable wrench and thought this might be handy. Rather than a worm gear at the head there is a slide on the handle that adjusts the jaws. Fit and finish of the tool is excellent and I like the color scheme but that’s where the positive ends. The slide mechanism is positioned where your hand or thumb will rest on it while using the tool and it opens very easy, way too easy, but typically binds when closing which means that it’s constantly creepin...

Unreliable metal detector -- save your money for a good one!

Unreliable metal detector -- save your money for a good one!

2239 days ago by Hawgnutz | 5 comments »

This metal detector is reasonably priced at under $20, but you get what you pay for. When I tested this on a known area with metal under the wood (my workbench has screws attaching face to top), the detector failed to detect a #10 screw just under the wood’s surface! This is totally unacceptable. My jointer, planer. or bandsaw blades are too expensive to chance on this unreliable detector. A magnetic stud finder is much more reliable than this! Save your money for the Lumber Wizar...

Pruner May be Only Chainsaw You Need

Pruner May be Only Chainsaw You Need

2039 days ago by Ick | 9 comments »

I’ve been an owner of a Stihl 16” chainsaw for years. I have 50 acres that has substantial amount of Blackjack Oaks. These trees typically stay until 14” in diameter at the base, so the 16” bar has always been more than enough. A couple of years ago, my wife treated me to a new Stihl Pruner. I’ve been so impressed with this tool that my old standard chainsaw rarely gets used. Whereas I thought the pruner would be a specialty saw, I find myself reaching for...

Grizzly H7777 8" Dado Stack

Grizzly H7777 8" Dado Stack

1817 days ago by Frostyjo | 9 comments »

After the recent reviews where various customer service centers have taken a beating, here’s one that has a happy ending. Last fall I was on the quest for a new dado set to go with my new saw. As a weekend hobbyist with Christmas approaching I couldn’t rationalize spending $200+ on a stack. After looking at several I narrowed it down to the Freud 208 and the Grizzly’s H7777 8” stacks. The deciding points that leaned me towards the Grizzly were price ($50), the chippers are full plates w...

Jet Parallel Clamp

Jet Parallel Clamp

1648 days ago by alaskan79 | 9 comments »

I got a pair of 12” clamps last winter and they are really nice. I was using pipe clamps and was having trouble with my glue ups not staying flush. I was getting a lot of cup and would have to clamp some 2 X 2 on each end to stop it from happening. I got these clamps and now I don’t have that problem. About a month ago I got a pair of 31” because the 12” where a little short for some of my glue ups. I really like them also. Really easy to move the movable jaw on the ba...

New Tool Purchase

New Tool Purchase

Just this evening I picked up a new DW734. I would post what I paid for it, but you would not believe me. After I get it set up and make some chips I will write a review and by that time I will have taken a picture of my receipt and post it. There was a very large error made, I by happenstance came across it, took advantage of it by placing my order and the price was honored. I am very fortunate of this event and know it. I am also very grateful for this event as I would not have been ab...

Powermatic PM2000 5hp tablesaw

Powermatic PM2000 5hp tablesaw

Splurged on the new table saw a few months ago and wanted to post a quick review to help others out there make a wise decision if they are in the market as well. I have no photo so instead you all get to admire my beautiful 2-year old daughter Caitlin. She is happier than am I about the machine by the looks of her. Saw arrived in two packages. The heaviest of which was REALLY heavy. It took 5 guys to muscle this thing into my basement and I’m pretty sure it is never going to leave th...
