New Jointer

New Jointer

Jointer was delivered into my garage 5 days after ordering. That included the weekend and 4th of July holiday. I did pay for the lift gate service. Packaging was very good and in great shape. Broke down easy for recycling. Assembly was very straight forward. I did start off using jacks and jack stands to get top close to installed height. Turned out to be waste of time. Friend and myself easily picked up the top to put on the stand. Table checks with a 3’ Starrett showed the ...

Rigid R2400 Trim Router

Rigid R2400 Trim Router

I am rather peeved about this router and Rigid’s policy regarding standing behind their product. Okay, I didn’t immediately register the router after I bought it. If you register, they offer a lifetime warranty. If you don’t register it is three years. I didn’t register. Out of the box, it never worked right. I thought maybe I missed something and besides I had a Ryobi that has lasted me at least 15 years which I had as a back-up – I thought. I kind of forgot ab...

Decisions, decisions...

Decisions, decisions...

I recently decided to upgrade my table saw. The JET 10” hybrid saw I bought new about 17 years ago has served me well, but I wanted to take advantage of some of the advancements in table saw design that have occurred since then. There were two major developments in table saws that I was adamant about having on my new saw. The first was a riving knife. Not merely a splitter, but a true riving knife that raises, lowers, and tilts with the blade. Back when I bought my JET, riving knives wer...

Hi Folks, So I have this saw for well over a year and have used it a lot and is supposed to be my go to tool in the workshop but sadly im not loving it… What I like:Its powerful enough for softwoodsIts very quietI love the castor mobile base that is attached. What I don’t like1. The fence guides suck .. the rail that guides the fence is forever out of alignment at least every month I have going underneath the front rail and tightening the nuts. I don’t like that the...

About the Little Things

About the Little Things

There are a lot of Sawstop reviews both here on LJ’s and on Youtube and other places. Everyone says that it is a quality item and has the infamous safety feature. I’ve only had my new Saw for a couple of weeks and made a few dozen cuts with it and you already know about the saw in general having seen the hotdog videos I’m sure, but there’s more to point out. Some companies have a different philosophy. What comes to mind are companies like Tesla. Get the best enginee...

Another great DVD. this sugar chest DVD is jam packed with so much woodworking knowledge on the sugar chest that Charles Neil is passing on to us. It is a 4 DVD set and goes through every little detail. the good the bad and the ugly. it goes through everything from lumber selection, to milling, construction, and the finished product. As i stated earlier this DVD does really show the good, bad, and ugly. as Charles always says he’s going to show everything and even on a couple of small m...

Planer - Economic in cost, Industrial in performance

Planer - Economic in cost, Industrial in performance

01-08-2010 05:17 AM by Troy | 10 comments »

I got this planer a few months ago mainly cause I really needed to upgrade from a bench top model I had (Dewalt). My shop has a 100 amp service subpanel and I left room for it at the first drop for my DC.It came in a decent crate, which had minor damage, but prevented any issues on the machine. The control panel outer cover had a ding for some reason, but it gave it character, so I don’t mind. There was a ton of packing grease on every single moving part. While reassuring that the parts ...

Initial Impressions of this drill press

Initial Impressions of this drill press

04-25-2010 08:41 PM by AjayO | 6 comments »

I wanted to share my initial impression of this new Jet drill press. This is a new 12” portable drill press offering from Jet with digital speed readout (hence DRO: Digital Read Out in the name), variable speed and laser cross hair alignment. I picked it up as a barely used from a local person about 1.5 months ago. I haven’t used it a lot but have been looking for a drill press for quite some time so at least wanted to share some initial impression. I compared this press to Del...

Veritas Micro-Adjust Wheel Marking GaugeYes I have seen that there are already a review this tool! But!!! I do not all agree in the judgment: I think it’s a excellent marking tool, I think it’s so delicate, and well made, that it makes any LJ want to touch it!It’s precise. It’s cutting a sharp spur. Its a pleasure to hold in your hand. What I do agree, are that the micro adjustment are not super useful, but I actually used it to fine tune the other day for my do...
