I’m not a plane fanatic like some, and in fact this is my first. I was having trouble controlling the dado depths on plywood sheets because of bowage and remembered seeing someone, somewhere using one of these things.Anyway, I used it on my last project and it made a world of difference. The adjustment wanders a bit, and by a bit I mean something like .005”-.01” on the depth, which is probably due to how I’m measuring it, but once it’s dialed in it works really we...

Milwaukee 2897-22 Drill and Impact Driver Kit

Milwaukee 2897-22 Drill and Impact Driver Kit

09-23-2016 02:31 PM by PPK | 4 comments »

I didn’t see any reviews on the recent Milwaukee line of FUEL drills/impacts/tools on LJ’s yet, so here’s my contribution. I recently bought the drill/impact driver kit. It’s the M18 kit with the items shown in the stock photo above. The batteries are 5.0 amp hour and last a LLLOOOOONNNNGGG time. I couldn’t get one to heat up either when using it hard, so that’s a good sign. The drill: Not much heavier than my 14.4 volt makita. Has more RPM’s, a...

Jointer	Grizzly G0490XW

Jointer Grizzly G0490XW

11-27-2016 02:06 PM by dannmarks | 7 comments »

I purchased the G0490XW. I ordered the one that I wanted and waited for to come in: it was on back order. Came in about mid November 2016. Yes it has the spiral head and mine worked first time just fine. Still tuning in some stuff. I probably still have a little to learn about it yet. However, my boards come out very flat and the edges are very square. Took a while to get it square. I mean really square. So gluing up produces nice flat work. It does exactly what a jointer is suppose...

Incra Customer Service

Incra Customer Service

01-16-2017 12:30 AM by PatrickB | 4 comments »

I just had to post this since it is such a positive item. I have just ordered the Incra I-Box jig and I went to the site to order a couple of doodads to go with the jig. An extra guide arm, plate and the rings that help set it to the size of the miter slot. Not that much really but I was pretty surprised that shipping was almost a 1/3 of the price of the order altogether. Anyway I wrote in the comments section that I thought that the shipping was kind of high for so little. I wasn’t an...

Who's got two thumbs and loves to staple?

Who's got two thumbs and loves to staple?

This guy. This stapler shoots 1/2” to 1 1/2” narrow crown staples. Have you ever had to remove a freakin’ narrow crown staple. It is not coming out. Staples resist racking. I use this for reinforcing cabinets and attaching their backs. Very strong. Also it is awesome for building lattice. Brads and finish nails will pull out. Staples hold strong. (Use galvanized for outdoor.) I would definitely buy another P.C. gun. No jams. No problemo. 4 stars because how...

G reat little impact driver - Bosch PS40-2

G reat little impact driver - Bosch PS40-2

06-10-2008 12:06 AM by GaryK | 16 comments »

I was looking for a small driver so that I wouldn’t keep having to swap bits out in my drill. I wasn’t really looking for an impact driver, but then I found about the rebate Bosch is currently having. Buy an impact driver and get a PS20 (non-impact version) for free. Now it doesn’t include a battery but the PS40 does include 2. So now I get both for the price of one. I got it for the out the door price of $142. How does it perform? Well, I drove a #8×3” deck...

Kreg Large Face Clamps at a good price

Kreg Large Face Clamps at a good price

07-29-2009 10:51 PM by Mike H | 5 comments »

I got the Kreg Pocket Hole Master system about a year or two ago and have been wanting to add a few more clamps for doing some larger projects under consideration / in the plans. Got a e-mail the other day from woodcraft.com and they had them (Item # 144665) on sale (or Clearance perhaps) for $12.99 each so I ordered (3) of them which just came today. For (3) of them plus shipping cost was $47.96 which I think is a great price as they used to be about $25 per + s/h I believe some of ...

Modern Practical Joinery by George Ellis

Modern Practical Joinery by George Ellis

04-19-2010 09:58 PM by JohnnyW | 8 comments »

George Ellis was a joiner working in England at the end of the 19th Century, and realising that he wouldn’t be around to mentor my woodworking journey in person, he decided to set down his instruction in this convenient text. First, he tells me, a joiner must become familiar with the many hand tools that he will encounter, and understand how to use them. He pays special attention to teaching me how to create efficient mortice and tenon and dovetail joints. He also tells me, with a ra...
