Grizzly Strikes Again

Grizzly Strikes Again

01-31-2013 02:35 AM by tme4tls | 29 comments »

I have been having trouble breathing this winter while the shop has had the doors and windows closed. Normally, two large drum fans keep a good volume of air going in and out which keeps the dust down. Works well for the warmer months but in the colder months when I have the heat on the dust gets to be a bit much. I thought about an air filter but never got around to ordering one. So, I decided to order a Grizzly G9965 air filter for the shop since they claimed it would change the air in a...

Works well with some limitations

After Dylan's review of this item as a Rockler sale item ($35 at the moment), I decided to pick one up b/c I thought I was close to buying a jointer off of Cralgslist. The Good:1) Pretty straightforward assembly and adjustability2) Rolls easily3) roll/stationary lever is pretty easy to use and definitely better than the Harborfreight style where one has to screw down the stationary supports when you don’t want it to roll. 4) Everything to assemble it is included The Not So Good:1...

DeWalt - One Great 20" Scroll Saw

DeWalt - One Great 20" Scroll Saw

02-29-2008 01:52 AM by GaryK | 33 comments »

This is the only scroll saw I have ever had so I nothing to compare it to. When researching and looking over many others I don’t think I could have done any better in my choice. This is the only scroll saw that DeWalt makes and with one this good it’s all they need With a throat depth of 20”, it beats out most others on just that. It is heavy at 56 pounds! Very well built. The table tilts 45 degrees both left and right. Tension, power switch and variable speed control ar...

Fantastic bit set, especially for the price!

Fantastic bit set, especially for the price!

After needing sizes that just weren’t in my Porter Cable 8 piece set, and finding out what it would cost to buy bits individually, I decided, being the cheapskate that I am, to look for a set. The big box of crayons as it were. Now I have been looking pretty seriously into the MLCS 31 piece Master Forstner Bit Set (and they ARE coming down in price) but at the list price I had first seen them at of $129.00, I was open to options. I ran accross the Fine Woodworking article that raved ...

Pretty Good Drill Press

Pretty Good Drill Press

Bought this from Lowes a few years ago. I don’t remember the exact price, but it was less than $100. This is a benchtop model and it has a laser sight that works very well. This is a feature that I like a lot. To change the speed, I need to open the top and change the belt to one of the other pulleys. A nice touch is that there is a drawer on the base that can be used to hold the chuck, as well as other tools for servicing the machine. One limitation of this drill press is...

Stanley Sweetheart 9 1/2

Stanley Sweetheart 9 1/2

05-17-2010 10:11 PM by HighRockWoodworking | 20 comments »

I must say that when I first read about the Stanley’s Sweetheart line I was a bit apprehensive. When thinking of a Stanley I normally think of what your everyday box store carries or an old plane I might find at a garage sale and not a high end woodworking tool. I needed a new block plane and thought why not try the Stanley Sweetheart 9 1/2. Out of the box the plane has a nice weight to it, feels good in your hand, and looks great. The thick A-2 iron cut better than I thought out ...

A real help

A real help

I purchsed the I-Socket from Rockler for $29.99 + Free shipping. The instructions and web site say that it’s for a vacuums and dust collectors. I personally wouldn’t use it on my 2 HP Dust Collector. It just doesn’t look like it’s made well enough to handle that much inrush current. I purchased the I-Socket for one thing, using with my compound sliding miter saw. It works just as advertised. When you squeeze the trigger on the miter saw, the vac starts right ...

Worth every penny

Worth every penny

I bought this machine to replace a Delta 14” bandsaw equipped with riser blocks. That no longer could produce the power I needed. Lets get the the bad news done frist. Yes, this saw is made in China…...Don’t let that scare you. Yes, this saw cost a lot….But, you get what you pay for. Set up was easy. All I had to do was, mount the table, and the motar. The hardest part of the job was getting it off the palet it came on. Installing the motar was tricky, only because ...

Kreg Shelf Pin Jig

Kreg Shelf Pin Jig

09-17-2012 01:58 PM by Daris | 2 comments »

The Kreg Shelf Pin Jig is an excellent jig to add your woodworking collection.  I’ve done the “make your own” pegboard type of jig.  The problem is you cut it down to size and it seems like you never get it right the first time.  When you do finally get it right it still feels a little off when you’re finished.  Anyone who has the done pegboard thing will know how it can be a pain to do(and no I’m talking about those crazy smart never make a mistake woodworke...

I have to agree

I have to agree

I just received my Grizzly $140 router table and its all I could ask for after having tried to make my own router table and ending up with a bowed/warped tabletop with no fence. The black powder coated lets and braces were stuck to the paper inserts meant to keep the pieces apart, but I think that is a minor complaint given the value of the overall package. Once put together, I now have a fully functional router table with fence and insert plate. Assembly was very easy. Although it lo...
