A great price on an acceptable clamp

A great price on an acceptable clamp

1245 days ago by HungryTermite | 22 comments »

I was at the local Harbor Freight over the holidays and I noticed a bin full of 18” Ratcheting Bar clamps on sale for $2.99 each. The seemed to work well in the store and all were covered with a little bit of oil, presumably to protect the metallic parts. I didn’t really have a need for new clamps and I wasn’t sure if an 18” clamp would be useful or not but I figured I really couldn’t go wrong for only $2.99 (regularly $7.99 I think) so I bought 6 of them. Great blade

Great blade

1125 days ago by thatwoodworkingguy | 13 comments »

It came time in my shop when I realized my old porter cable blade was cutting it (literally at times!) any longer.I was going to buy a frued but I could not resist the urge to try out this CMT.The only complaint I have with this blade is the packaging. The blade is screwed into the case and even when the screw is out you still have to all about break the case to get the blade out. Its NOT easy.Upon putting in the saw I fired it up right away. Call me cliche but this blade SOUNDS great! It wh...

What if Apple Computer made hand tools?

What if Apple Computer made hand tools?

969 days ago by Rick Boyett | 23 comments »

A few years ago, I worked for Microsoft. These days I work for HP. And while both companies have been good employers, I found that my personal computing preferences tend to drift towards Apple Computers. Why? Because they are innovative, have great design, and do a damn good job of taking care of their customers. If I were to translate that to hand tools, I would have to say that Stanley is Microsoft and Veritas is Apple. When you buy a PC running a Microsoft OS (even something as g...

Woodcraft's WoodRiver Mobile Base Kit

Woodcraft's WoodRiver Mobile Base Kit

711 days ago by glassyeyes | 10 comments »

I recently mounted my bandsaw on a mobile base using Woodcraft’s WoodRiver Universal Mobile Base Hardware Kit. I have used similar kits before, and generally like them. Some of the features of this kit are a considerable improvement over past versions, but one change confuses me, and made it difficult to decide on an overall rating. THE GOOD: The kit is based on user-supplied lumber, such as plywood. Previously, the steel corners were equipped to take only one piece of nominal 3/...

Delta 78-963 Biesemeyer T-Square Anti Kickback Snap in Splitter -Not what it should be

Delta 78-963 Biesemeyer T-Square Anti Kickback Snap in Splitter -Not what it should be

138 days ago by mrg | 12 comments »

I bought this back in December thinking it would be a good replacement since I did not have the factory splitter on my saw. The thought was lets make it safer until I buy my new saw. I had read many mixed reviews on the splitter and figured that maybe the bad reviews had to do with how people had been installing the splitter. It is just like any other splitter that you find on the uni-saw and the later contractor saws that have been discontinued. I got it home unboxed it, removed the ol...

Powerful 18 Volt Cordless Drill/Driver with Lifetime Warranty!

Right now, February, 2008, Ridgid is phasing out its line of NiCad batery tools and phasing in their new Lithium Ion line. So they are making their tools capable of accepting either style batterys! But that will not make a big difference because they offer a lifetime service for the tool and the batterys that power them! After replacing my Craftsman batterys just last year and having them going south now, I decided top grab a Ridgid tool set while Home Depot has them on clearance sale. I ...

I have to smile with all of the comedians out there….but keep your day jobs….Sorry about no pics, and the skimpy review, but I’ve been really busy getting my boat ready for the upcoming bass tournament season, and the first warm sun makes me run to the river and check lines…..lol I have taken a lot of shop pictures this week, and I just completed a japanese study table made with a tree that I cut down in my backyard last year, so for all of the bandsaw enthusiasts, ...

Dust Deputy works like a charm

Dust Deputy works like a charm

Just picked up my DD today at the local Woodcraft store. Was not sure what to expect…only watched the online video as well as the reviews here and at other sites. Put it together per instructions, hooked it up to my old Ridgid 4.5 hp wet-dry vac and “POW”...it worked much better than expected. It was like adding a supercharger to my vac…cleaned up alot of sawdust on the floor and inside my TS cabinet in no time flat. I plan on getting a new 6.5 shop vac soo...
