Great value in a contractor saw

Great value in a contractor saw

I’ve been using an early 1980s-era Craftsman 9-inch portable table saw with a steel table and stamped steel extension wings. After deciding that I needed something a little more precise than this older saw, I was looking to upgrade and was attracted to the Bosch 4100-09 partly because of the reviews, but mostly because of the blade guard/riving knife it features. I wasn’t really wanting another portable saw, however, and was looking for something beefier instead. I discovered this...

I currently subscribe to Woodsmith eTips and enjoy receiving their video tips and read tips. I’ve come across several over the past couple of years that have helped me in my shop and today’s tips included a simple low cost Moxon style vise that I think several of you may want to build. http://www.woodsmithtips.com/2012/10/25/easy-to-build-vise/ If you haven’t already, I encourage you to subscribe as well Thanks Woodsmith! Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

Preliminary Review Of The Woodpeckers WDPPACK1 Drill Press Table

09-23-2013 04:29 AM by Brad_Nailor | 25 comments »

I have been debating for a year or so about building/buying a good drill press table for my DP. I have seen a lot of really well done ones on this website, and till a few weeks ago hadn’t really seen anything commercially made that really impressed me. I have worked a couple projects lately that I needed the DP for and just a piece of melamine poorly clamped to the metal table wasn’t cutting it.I went online for design inspiration and was looking for ideas on LJ and at commerciall...

The Beall Wood Buff

The Beall Wood Buff

11-22-2008 03:49 PM by odie | 24 comments »

Every time I make a ring box I use The Beall Wood Buff. I make about 300 ring boxes a year in four different sizes. Since I have had my wood buffing system (approx. 18 months) I’ve probably used it on close to 500 boxes. I used to hand wax and buff these boxes and it would take forever. Now it takes half the time and the quality of finish is second to none. The procedure I use is quite simple. I now sand my boxes on a belt sander down to a 400 grit. Then I apply one coat of tung oil and le...

Now that I have been using this VFD for a few weeks I thought it might be time to post a review of it. The sole reason for purchasing this product was to power the 3 phase motor on my Unisaw given that I only have single phase power at my location. I looked at alternatives like a Rotary Phase Converter, a Static Phase Converter or even swapping out the 3 phase motor for a single phase motor but I wanted to experience the full power this motor offered. So, in the end I opted for the VFD and...

My Review of, Rikon 10-325 14" Deluxe Bandsaw

Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

Nice and Easy

Nice and Easy

I’ve used Minwax Brushing Lacquer before under ideal conditions (temperature, light, clean surfaces) and gotten really crappy results. Bought the Watco. Brushed it on a surface that still needed some work, and I did it at 40 degrees. Results were the best brushed finish I have ever produced. REALLY IMPRESSED with it. Quick coats, thin layers, nice flat surface resulting. No sags or drips and the finish flattened even though I was 15 degrees below recommended application tempera...

Craftsman Automatic Power Switch

Craftsman Automatic Power Switch

I just purchased this item recently, but it works exactly as described and is a problem solver for me. I searched Lumberjocks to see if there was already a review. I see many references to this product, but no review. I did not know that this product even existed until about a week ago, so maybe my review will make it easier to find for future new Lumber Jocks. I found mine for $24.99 at the local Sears store. I used a $10 off coupon and so actually paid 14.99 plus tax. This grey pl...

harbour frieght drill press table attachment

harbour frieght drill press table attachment

i was in the market for a drill press table for my new Delta/Rockwell drill press. I was going to make one out of scrap, but after factoring the cost of t-track and clamps this seemed like a decent $20.00 solution. It came out of the box and went directly on no problems.I used it to counter bore the boards for an Adirondack chair that is in process. It umm, sat on my drill press really well and held the stops where they were supposed too and allowed me to speed right through all my drilling.I...

A lot for very little

A lot for very little

I thought my saw was reasonably vibration free for a contractor but on start up and especially shut down it would give a slight shudder. After years of ignoring advice to buy a link belt I did and am sorry I waited so long because it’s like having a new saw. I only thought my saw ran smooth but now there is no more shudder even at shut down and I’d swear it cuts a little smoother though that might be psychosomatic. If you’ve been wanting to try a link belt and have been putt...
