Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

04-21-2008 01:39 AM by Dadoo | 46 comments »

All of my cabinets so far, have been made from birch plywood and trimmed in pine. Now I’ve got a load of old maple for trim and want to build a bookcase system using maple plywood. I’ve looked around and have found that the only place that carries it, is Lowes. Oh, my local yard will be happy to order it…at like $70.00 a sheet…sight unseen. So being careful not to buy some cheap stuff (there’s been some bad vibes concerning Chinese plywood here) I found that the ...

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

When I first began dabbling in woodworking, I had zero clamps and high aspirations. Stocking up on the well F-style Harbor Freight clamps seemed like a good idea. For months, I impulsively made trips to HF and picked up one HF F-style bar clamp (using a 20% off coupon) and 1 freebie per trip. Fast forward 2 years, and I now have 10×6”, 6×12”, 2×18” and 2×24”. Overall impression is that the HF F-style clamp was the most inexpensive way of jump st...

Evapo Rust - Still Impressive

Evapo Rust - Still Impressive

This is my second review of this product. In my first review I show this amazing product on large pieces loaded with rust. Here I decided to clean up some small items. The great thing with this product is that it keeps the rust off for a long period of time, well over a year. A close up of the rust Below is my process as I cleaned several items that day. I do it much like what they say on the bottle. I let the pieces soak in Evapo-Rust for a several hours Then I rinse in plain...

These hold down cost the exorbitant price of $1.97 each!!!!! I read about other “famous” brand hold downs which break the first time you use them. These did not break after about ten tries and they in fact hold , as they are supposed to do . Excellent value. One more time, thank you Harbor Freight,my very favorite store.( just for Greg: this is a full review with pictures not from Harbor Freight ’s website but in fact taken on my new bench)The Harbor Freight guy

My review of the Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Spindle Sander

My review of the Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Spindle Sander

07-22-2015 01:32 AM by coloradotrout | 45 comments »

Hi, after much deliberation, and reading and rereading the FWW review, I bought the EB4424, Ridgid Oscillating Spindle Sander. 8/4/15 Update:I returned #2. I then took a combo square off the display and applied it to the display unit sander. Much flatter table, and much more coplaner tables (tiltable table relative to fixed), and near perfect perpendicular table to spindle. All I can suggest is the older models were machined with much tighter tolerances. In my opinion the latest F...

Does not do its only job!

Does not do its only job!

So let me start off by saying I was really excited to get this on sale for $20. I had been wanting the wixey but no local stores had it so it would have been $35+shipping. Out of the box this thing feels really good. Its nice and heavy, and it feels of good quality. I popped it out and turned it on. I set it on the Cast iron of the table saw a few inches from the blade, hit the “calibrate” button and placed it on the blade. I was really impressed on how the measurement changed as ...

Hammer K3 Winner Review

Hammer K3 Winner Review

I noticed no one had posted a review about this saw so it’s time! Anyone who is interested in getting a SS ICS should consider this saw first. For a short time I had a Laguna Platinum series and was not pleased at all. Numerous problems, wobble in the arbor, not good. Sold it, saved my pennies and after a long process, decided on the Hammer. What a great decision! I have had it about 4 months and I smile every time I walk past it in the garage. Those Austrians have it going on. S...

First on the Block to Get the New Plane

First on the Block to Get the New Plane

02-18-2009 07:10 PM by bobdurnell | 45 comments »

After seeing the advertisement in the latest Woodcraft magazine offering the new Wood River planes I couldn’t wait to see them. The article said that they resemble the LN planes and were more affordable. After calling my local Woodcraft store I was told that it would be a while before they would have the planes in the store. Yesterday 2/17/09 I went to check them out and I believe that they are what was said in the ad.I have a no.5, no.2, no.1, and a low angle adjustable block by LN....

A great deal

A great deal

I’ve been using this blade for a few months now. It’s lived in my miter saw most of that time and I just tried it out on the table saw for rip cuts. I’ve been very pleased with this blade, overall. The titanium nitride coating does seem to reduce friction and give a somewhat cleaner cut. The blade is nice and sharp out of the box. It cut more easily and cleanly the Kobalt blades I had been using in the miter saw. And the rip cuts it did were good too. The saw didn&#...
