Move over Diablo, Irwin got something right for once

Move over Diablo, Irwin got something right for once

Yesterday I found myself in Lowes. Rumor was they were offloading all of their CMT stuff cheap. While browsing around I stumbled upon the Marples blades. Disclaimer I have a saw blade addiction. If I see something new or exciting, I have to buy it. It’s a problem and I need help! Also I am not a fan of Irwin at all. Their marathon blades are pure garbage, and the “classic” blades are a downgrade from whatever came on your saw – as hard to beleive as that is. I did some...

I am really impressed with this saw

I am really impressed with this saw

06-21-2010 04:41 AM by zierath | 49 comments »

I received this saw about two weeks ago. My wife bought it for me as a father’s day gift. It was packed very well, and there were no parts missing. Set up was simple enough. Lifting it was quite a bit of work; as it is a very heavy piece of equipment. I tuned it up in a very short time and was really impressed how quiet it runs. I’ve been reading books and watching videos on bandsaws and it appears to have many features found on much more expensive saws. I think the quality...

Grizzly G0555

Grizzly G0555

After reading so many positive reviews for the G0555 I went ahead and purchased one. I always seem to be the one in a hundred who gets the lemon. I have limited experience with bandsaws and am hoping it’s just a setup error on my part, and that someone may have some insight they can offer me. I have spoken to Grizzly tech help several times but find their responses inadequate. First the trivial issues (at least I think they are trivial). 1.) Can’t adjust the guide beari...

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer

I have had the opportunity to use about 4 different planers. I owned a Ryobi 12.5” for about a year and returned it because rollers wouldn’t work, They bought a Ridgid and it lasted about 3 months, same problem (Ryobi, Ridgid, and Milwaukee are same corp) Finally I bucked up and bought Dewalt after seeing this at the wood show. However I am not the average weekend woodworker being a shop teacher so minimum duty tools just dont’ cut it for me. I also had a Delta 12.5”...

CHARLES NEIL BLOTCH CONTROL

CHARLES NEIL BLOTCH CONTROL

05-11-2010 09:51 PM by a1Jim | 47 comments »

Hey friends and neighborsI received my can of Charles Neils Blotch control almost a week ago and I have been waiting to give it a try due to my work schedule I decided to give it a go on some poplar knowing it’s one of the worst woods to blotch when stain is applied.I sanded this six quarter piece of poplar as I would preparing for staining for all woods I’m about to finish going through the grits up to 220 grit as the instructions suggest. I then applied a first coat of blotch c...

Grizzly G0690 even with problems still good value

Grizzly G0690 even with problems still good value

04-05-2013 04:49 AM by pjones46 | 46 comments »

Based on many of the reviews I have read, the Grizzly G0690 Cabinet saw was the best bang for the buck. As there have been many reviews given I will only add a few comments to those that I have read. The saw arrived without a ding, dent or missing part and went together well. I was very disappointed with wiring as it appeared to be only 14 gauge wire with a 220 plug configuration I had never seen. I had my electrician rewire it completely with 12 gauge wire and use a more conventional tw...

Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

04-21-2008 01:39 AM by Dadoo | 46 comments »

All of my cabinets so far, have been made from birch plywood and trimmed in pine. Now I’ve got a load of old maple for trim and want to build a bookcase system using maple plywood. I’ve looked around and have found that the only place that carries it, is Lowes. Oh, my local yard will be happy to order it…at like $70.00 a sheet…sight unseen. So being careful not to buy some cheap stuff (there’s been some bad vibes concerning Chinese plywood here) I found that the ...

Evapo Rust - Still Impressive

Evapo Rust - Still Impressive

10-10-2011 12:04 AM by hjt | 46 comments »

This is my second review of this product. In my first review I show this amazing product on large pieces loaded with rust. Here I decided to clean up some small items. The great thing with this product is that it keeps the rust off for a long period of time, well over a year. A close up of the rust Below is my process as I cleaned several items that day. I do it much like what they say on the bottle. I let the pieces soak in Evapo-Rust for a several hours Then I rinse in plain...

Can't beat them!!

These hold down cost the exorbitant price of $1.97 each!!!!! I read about other “famous” brand hold downs which break the first time you use them. These did not break after about ten tries and they in fact hold , as they are supposed to do . Excellent value. One more time, thank you Harbor Freight,my very favorite store.( just for Greg: this is a full review with pictures not from Harbor Freight ’s website but in fact taken on my new bench)The Harbor Freight guy
