Household product that removes CA Glue residue…and the Dan & Odie Show

Household product that removes CA Glue residue…and the Dan & Odie Show

Calico Polish Off Artifical Nail and Polish Remover. Excellent and effective product for removing CA glue build up from fingers. I haven’t had the need (knock wood) to separate my fingers from themselves or a workpiece using this product, so I do buy the Super Solvent that is a shelfmate of the other Hot Stuff Cyanoacylate glues I use. However after fiddling with some inlay banding today, I developed a thin coat of CA on the fingers. At $2.99 the Polish Off (with Acetone) is significant...

NOTHING but issues and poor service on two different machines

NOTHING but issues and poor service on two different machines

This post has been a long time coming but, here it goes! In December of 2008 I ventured out on my own for the first time in the construction/carpentry world. The first job I landed was to make some high end custom cabinets for a client with whome I had done work for previously. The next step was deciding on the proper equiptment to get the job done and in accordance with my high standards. I decided upon a combination machine due to the size of my shop and the price and read up on several...

Review of the Sawstop Professional Cabinet Saw

Review of the Sawstop Professional Cabinet Saw

186 days ago by Scott Bryan | 76 comments »

Intro: The saw is a 3hp, 585 pound monster. I purchased the 52” fence, hydraulic mobile base and extension table. Setting it up is definately a two person job (although I did it alone with help from my wife only in setting up the front rail). I did get help in lifting it onto the mobile base, however, as this is the only way to mount it to the base. The instructions call for help in setting the saw upright since the base cabinet weighs 200+ pounds. I was able to do it alone b...

Hitachi Table Saw

Hitachi Table Saw

On first look the Hitachi C10Fl looked like a great deal but after using it for 2 years the following has become evident: FOR EVERYONE WHO THINKS I PUT THE DUST COLLECTION ON FACING THE WRONG DIRECTION !!! NOTE THAT THE PORT IS OPPOSITE THE OPERATOR. THE PORT WAS INSTALLED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS. Rated according to the manufacturer at 3 hp found out that it is actually 1 1/2 HP a bold faced lie that they should be sued for. This is a terrible design, and although bigger and be...

I love my Router Boss!

I love my Router Boss!

88 days ago by Rick | 56 comments »

I’m a perfectionist. I only have a few projects under my belt but each one has been seems to be a leap in quality from the last. I was wanting to do dovetails, lots of inlay and complex joinery. I wanted to do it all but it seemed like I was going to be making alot of router jigs, bandsaw jigs and table saw jigs. I didn’t want to spend all of my time making jigs though. I wanted to spend it making these projects I see in my head. In my head they’re perfect and I won...

My Review of, Rikon 10-325 14" Deluxe Bandsaw

My Review of, Rikon 10-325 14" Deluxe Bandsaw

664 days ago by Dick, & Barb Cain | 54 comments »

Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

Ridgid R4511 10 in. Granite Top Table Saw

Ridgid R4511 10 in. Granite Top Table Saw

To be fair , I was waiting to write this review after I tackled the last (and only) issue I’ve had with this saw as to give a proper review of it’s operation, and not limited by any aspect of missing/malfunctioning parts out-of-the-box. my ‘limitation’ was that the fence had a slight disposition issue once locked all the way down (was fine if locked half way – it would stay put and stay on the mark – but if the lock handle was pushed further, it would skew ...

Ridgid TS3650 Table Saw

Ridgid TS3650 Table Saw

I’ve had this saw for about a year and love it. It was pretty square out of the box and the fence is really steady in contrast with earlier reviews on older models. The ability to move it on wheels is great, it comes with the wheels attached a bonus. There is a 2 1/2” dust collector hook up up under the saw which is so so, it’s hard to control the saw dust on any contractor’s saw. I have had no troubles with it and would highly recommend it.

Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!

567 days ago by Dadoo | 46 comments »

All of my cabinets so far, have been made from birch plywood and trimmed in pine. Now I’ve got a load of old maple for trim and want to build a bookcase system using maple plywood. I’ve looked around and have found that the only place that carries it, is Lowes. Oh, my local yard will be happy to order it…at like $70.00 a sheet…sight unseen. So being careful not to buy some cheap stuff (there’s been some bad vibes concerning Chinese plywood here) I found that the ...

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer

578 days ago by tooldad | 44 comments »

I have had the opportunity to use about 4 different planers. I owned a Ryobi 12.5” for about a year and returned it because rollers wouldn’t work, They bought a Ridgid and it lasted about 3 months, same problem (Ryobi, Ridgid, and Milwaukee are same corp) Finally I bucked up and bought Dewalt after seeing this at the wood show. However I am not the average weekend woodworker being a shop teacher so minimum duty tools just dont’ cut it for me. I also had a Delta 12.5”...
