Hitachi Table Saw
186 days ago by Obi | 52 comments »
On first look the Hitachi C10Fl looked like a great deal but after using it for 2 years the following has become evident: FOR EVERYONE WHO THINKS I PUT THE DUST COLLECTION ON FACING THE WRONG DIRECTION !!! NOTE THAT THE PORT IS OPPOSITE THE OPERATOR. THE PORT WAS INSTALLED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS. Rated according to the manufacturer at 3 hp found out that it is actually 1 1/2 HP a bold faced lie that they should be sued for. This is a terrible design, and although bigger and be...
Chinese firewood...I mean plywood!
94 days ago by Dadoo | 43 comments »
All of my cabinets so far, have been made from birch plywood and trimmed in pine. Now I’ve got a load of old maple for trim and want to build a bookcase system using maple plywood. I’ve looked around and have found that the only place that carries it, is Lowes. Oh, my local yard will be happy to order it…at like $70.00 a sheet…sight unseen. So being careful not to buy some cheap stuff (there’s been some bad vibes concerning Chinese plywood here) I found that the ...

Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...
Convenient and Flexible

(photo from: www.ridgid.com) When we first were looking for tools for our shop Rick wanted a drum sander. We asked at a store and were shown this Ridgid model which is multi-purposed. Rick was sold and we’ve never regretted the purchase. Features: belt sander (4”) spindle sander (5 sizes) tilting table Conversion Switching between the belt sander and spindle sander is really easy. It is also simple to change the sleeves for the spindle sander. Everything...
Video Review: SawStop me if you've heard this one before....

IntroThe saw is a 3hp, 635 pound behemoth. It is heavier than sin. Steel, Black, and Red are a good look for a saw. Very, very, very, expensive. Over $4000 with all accessories (fence, mobile base, dado cartridge, extra break cartridge, taxes). I know ….. that is really expensive. (And… I’m over it.) Why this saw: I have been taking woodworking classes for the last four years and have grown accustomed to working on the Unisaws and Powermatic cabinet saws. At home I was using a ...

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer
105 days ago by tooldad | 31 comments »
I have had the opportunity to use about 4 different planers. I owned a Ryobi 12.5” for about a year and returned it because rollers wouldn’t work, They bought a Ridgid and it lasted about 3 months, same problem (Ryobi, Ridgid, and Milwaukee are same corp) Finally I bucked up and bought Dewalt after seeing this at the wood show. However I am not the average weekend woodworker being a shop teacher so minimum duty tools just dont’ cut it for me. I also had a Delta 12.5”...
My First New Tool For New Shop - What is it?
112 days ago by ND2ELK | 31 comments »
I bought a solid oak cabinet at the prison industries auction 2 years ago. I brought it home and hung it in the garage. I am starting to clean out the garage where my new shop is going to go. I was taking the screws out of a brace on the bottom of the cabinet. While holding on to a 2 X 4 fastened on the side of the cabinet, it felt like it moved. I got to looking and this is what I found. It is a Prison Shank!!!!! You figure out what it could layout.
radial arm saw
140 days ago by runngt | 30 comments »
I have read a few reviews and topics about how dangerous radial arm saws are and that now days they have out lived their purpose in wood working. This is something I just don’t get as this was the second tool I purchased for my shop (like new, second hand for $250) and has been one of the best tools and one of my favorites since I brought it home. They are like any tool in your shop dangerous and reading the owners manual twice on this tool is a must. They have a tendency to produce kic...
