Great... but...

Great... but...

I bought a pair of these a few months ago after checking with my supervisor for approval. They work great, especially the Mp3 feature. With an el-cheapo generic Mp3 they will play for about 10 hours until the Mp3 battery needs a recharge. The sound is excellent and blocks out most of the surrounding noise. Herein lies the “but”. Unfortunately my employer has reversed on approval after several other people started using the same unit. Their reasoning (and I guess I agree r...

"Cooler" Hearing Protection

"Cooler" Hearing Protection

I love my Worktunes earmuffs, and use them with my iPhone in the shop to listen to my music and podcasts. But this time of year, they get mighty warm! So when I saw that AO Safety had come out with earplugs that could be used with my MP3, I had to try them out. As expected, these are much cooler to wear in the heat than the big earmuffs, but they are not an exact replacement. The Blockades are rated at 24 Db instead of the 29Db that the Worktunes are rated. 5Db may not seem like much, but ...

OUTSTANDLY Comfortable "Protective Listening"

OUTSTANDLY Comfortable "Protective Listening"

Blockade Ear Buds! Folks who use Work Tunes protective earmuffs, or the various clones, know how enjoyable listening to music or a podcast can be while working. I like my Work Tunes enough to have replaced them several times as I’ve broken them. Nowadays, I NEVER listen to the radio. My IPod, with over 1000 songs, and 50-100 hours of podcasts on a typical day, has completely replaced radio in my life. Like TiVO has changed my TV viewing, my IPod has made listening to the radio...

Worth Every Penny

Worth Every Penny

I gotta have my music. In fact, for some reason I concentrate better when I have music going than when I don’t. However, with the scream of power tools, it can get lost. Not only that, but something has to help pass the time when sanding! Well, the Work Tune does the job just fine. I picked this one up for $50 from Lowe’s with some Christmas money, and I’m thrilled with it. First the hearing protection: It works great. I can hear the scream of the machines, but n...

Music to my ears...

Music to my ears...

I thought I would post this because I am as happy as a pig in mud when I am using these things. They perform wonderfully. I like ear muffs better than in-ear style hearing protection. Before I bought these I used a pair of ear muffs with ear bud headphones to listen to my MP3 player. Since my MP3 player has no AM/FM radio option, I often missed that. Well, as always happens, one of the boys got their hand on my old headphones and broke them. When I went to pick up more, I saw these....

Jam to your tunes while safe from yuor machinery whine!

Jam to your tunes while safe from yuor machinery whine!

This is a tool I use all the time! My bandsaw is notorious for its high decibel whine when I use it, and coupled with the dust collection, that means it gets down right unbearable for my ears! These protect my ears, while allowing me to rock on or country out while I use my tools! They really protect me from the sound of my pneumatic full-head nailer! The on/off/volume control is set intuitively on the right ear. The only problem is that the radio tuner is non-digital, extending knob a...
