A true Pocket Hole Master !!!!!

A true Pocket Hole Master !!!!!

Well, I’ve resisted buying one of these pocket hole jugs for more years that I can recall mainly because, I never thought I would ever use one and I don’t use screws when making fine furniture. Shop jigs and Tables get a screw here and there but not too often. Any way while I’ve been watching this thing for years, the prices on this have gone up so much the last few years so I decided to get one before it hits the 80+ mark. I didn’t even want to consider the other pocket hole jigs. Right fro...

For a small lathe, or starter lathe, not bad at all.

For a small lathe, or starter lathe, not bad at all.

I have owned a Powermatic 3520B for quite a few years, with a Stronghold chuck and a fair amount of extra tools. One thing I kept noticing, it just wasn’t that good for small things. Hard to move around those big tool rests, and I just could not get myself to pay somebody $78 for a six inch tool rest. Plus, I hated to take off the Stronghold every time I wanted to do something smaller. Since I had an empty small bench right next to it, I started looking into a small lathe, one I c...

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Between sale price and coupon, the price was low enough that I took the plunge and bought the HF 2HP DC. —Starting with assembly:— You end up doing quite of bit of assembly with this unit, not just 2 or 3 connections. The very first thing I did when unpacking the unit was to plug the motor in to make sure it ran. I didn’t want to assemble the whole thing and then discover the motor didn’t work. It fired right up, no problems. I’ve seen talk on the intern...

Does not do its only job!

Does not do its only job!

So let me start off by saying I was really excited to get this on sale for $20. I had been wanting the wixey but no local stores had it so it would have been $35+shipping. Out of the box this thing feels really good. Its nice and heavy, and it feels of good quality. I popped it out and turned it on. I set it on the Cast iron of the table saw a few inches from the blade, hit the “calibrate” button and placed it on the blade. I was really impressed on how the measurement changed as ...

A lot for very little

A lot for very little

I thought my saw was reasonably vibration free for a contractor but on start up and especially shut down it would give a slight shudder. After years of ignoring advice to buy a link belt I did and am sorry I waited so long because it’s like having a new saw. I only thought my saw ran smooth but now there is no more shudder even at shut down and I’d swear it cuts a little smoother though that might be psychosomatic. If you’ve been wanting to try a link belt and have been putt...

For $2.50, I'll deal with the shedding grit...at $3.50, definitely not.

I wanted to post a quick review of the Harbor Freight Aluminum Oxide Sanding Sponges. I purchased a set of coarse, medium, and fine sanding sponges for $2.50 per pack of 10 (total cost was $7.50), using a coupon I found in Wood Magazine. All recent coupons for this item has been at $3.50 per pack of 10. My logic was, why not take a chance for what I might spend on lunch while the coupon is still valid. My first usage of the coarse grit could only be described as “epic fail”....

Harbor freight clamps

Harbor freight clamps

03-24-2013 04:35 PM by Mark | 16 comments »

I was down in Bellingham on Fri. ( after an hr wait at the boarder) and thought I’d stop and check out Harbor Freight, as I’ve heard so much about it. There was a post by one of the LJ’s that said their clamps were pretty fair. I picked up 3 of the 12” bar clamps and 2 -3/4” pipe clamps. I haven’t tried the pipe clamps as yet but the bar clamps work just fine. At $4.00 ea ya can’t go wrong. I would recommend this product. I also stopped at the...

Ultra gem from HF

Ultra gem from HF

We all know you don’t buy a trailer hitch or a parachute from harbor Freight if they sold it and the list can be pretty long. And we all know there’s been more than few times we have lost it with misaligned part or missing screw or 5 minute life span tools. But then there are times like these when you are willing to forgive and forget and besides where else can a lumber jock hang out and even feel slightly in control of cash flow.I found these gems few years back ( available online ?) a...

HF Japanese Flush Cut Saw

HF Japanese Flush Cut Saw

03-01-2013 04:52 PM by LoydMoore | 14 comments »

What to say. I have German, Swiss, real Japanese and American flush trim saws that cost anywhere from $20 to $70. Ever since I bought the Harbor Freight saw all of these are collecting dust in their storage drawer. This saw cuts faster and cleaner than any of those saws. Not sure how fast it will dull but for $8.00 (with 20% coupon) I will just toss it and buy another.
