Ultra gem from HF

Ultra gem from HF

We all know you don’t buy a trailer hitch or a parachute from harbor Freight if they sold it and the list can be pretty long. And we all know there’s been more than few times we have lost it with misaligned part or missing screw or 5 minute life span tools. But then there are times like these when you are willing to forgive and forget and besides where else can a lumber jock hang out and even feel slightly in control of cash flow.I found these gems few years back ( available online ?) a...

HF Japanese Flush Cut Saw

HF Japanese Flush Cut Saw

What to say. I have German, Swiss, real Japanese and American flush trim saws that cost anywhere from $20 to $70. Ever since I bought the Harbor Freight saw all of these are collecting dust in their storage drawer. This saw cuts faster and cleaner than any of those saws. Not sure how fast it will dull but for $8.00 (with 20% coupon) I will just toss it and buy another.

Hello folks. I have not been on here much as work has kept me very busy since the new year. Anyway, I still browsethe HF flyers that are sent my way. I have had my eye on this rolling tool chest for over a year. Regular price is @ $299. Of course we can use a 20% coupon almost any time, but I kept wating to see of this would go on some crazy sale. It has!!! Just picked this up last week for $169.00 on sale from the current flyer. I did not try to stack the 20% coupon, as I thought this wa...

Harbor Freight Surprise

Harbor Freight Surprise

Sometimes I just can’t resist. If this plane set had been real junk, I’d have been out $11.99….............so I decided to live dangerously …. after all, I’m not even that much of a hand tool guy. I took the big chance and used a coupon and brought it home. I’m only reviewing the #4 here because the little block plane really is just silly. Out of the bubble pack, with the copious oil removed, it actually cut and was sort of sharp. To me the test of a ha...

Arghhh

Arghhh

This review for the Harbor Freight adjustable roller stand. Item #46086. The one with the red roller. I got this last week to use as outfeed support for my planer and jointer. I needed something cheap and easy to support the long beech boards I was planing. This tool has mostly been an exercise in frustration. The bad news: Adjusting it is very difficult and highly annoying. It’s adjusted by moving the rod that holds the roller up and down within the base. This is a common...

Big Bang For Buck Belt Sharpener

Big Bang For Buck Belt Sharpener

I had been toying with the idea of getting into Woodturning for some time and the opportunity presented itself, so I started some serious planning. One of the things that goes along with Woodturning is the ability to sharpen your own turning tools. At the time I did NOT own a mechanized sharpening machine/system and had to rely on manually sharpening all of my planes and chisels with the “Scary Sharp” sandpaper to stone methodology. Don’t get me wrong, that system works a...

Probably best to take a pass

Probably best to take a pass

I’ve had this for about a year and think I’ve spent enough time with it to give a review. This is Harbor Freight item number 97181. Let me say first that, overall, I’ve been pretty pleased with the stuff I get from Harbor Freight. Both hand and power tools. But not this time. I would not purchase this tool again. First off, it’s underpowered. The belt and/or disc routinely bog down when I press wood into them. It happens less often with the disc than the ...

Momentary Power Foot Switch

Momentary Power Foot Switch

How many time when starting your router or your drill press or other power tool did you wish you had one more hand to grab firmly on the piece you were ready to machine? Often we present a piece of wood on the router just at right place to route it and then we need to let go of it to start the router and then the piece move. Or we hardly can hold one large piece , we do not feel very safe and then we need to let go of one hand to start the router or the drill press. After I refurbished...

A great deal

A great deal

I’ve been using this blade for a few months now. It’s lived in my miter saw most of that time and I just tried it out on the table saw for rip cuts. I’ve been very pleased with this blade, overall. The titanium nitride coating does seem to reduce friction and give a somewhat cleaner cut. The blade is nice and sharp out of the box. It cut more easily and cleanly the Kobalt blades I had been using in the miter saw. And the rip cuts it did were good too. The saw didn&#...

Another knock off success from Harbor Freight

Another knock off success from Harbor Freight

I realize that there may be many out there that dislike Harbor Freight, but when it comes to occasional use/accuracy not an issue tools, they are a viable, and cheap, alternative. While their tools tend to be pass or fail, these clamps are another pass. After seeing Askwoodman use the Festool and Bessy clamps, I knew I wanted some. However, at $40 each I couldn’t make myself hit the add to cart button, settling for continuing to use my traditional f clamps that I have always used. ...
