I picked up this hoist to lift a jointer out of my truck. It worked great in both directions, it has a built in brake. The jointer I lifted is 260 lbs. I got on also for a grand total of 520 lbs. .......... it still worked smooth and the roof didnt cave in. I spread the weight across 3 garage joists and put 2×4 braces on both sides of the truck. ok ok so theres a little redneck in my family LOL. This hoist will work great for picking up shop equipment when needed. No need for 4 budd...

10 piece Router Template Guide Set

10 piece Router Template Guide Set

03-11-2010 03:46 PM by Dick, & Barb Cain | 11 comments »

I have had this set for quite a few years now, & I highly recommend this set. It comes with an adapter, so if you want to make your own router plate, or table, it will be 100% accurate if installed correctly. The fine threaded nut makes for easy hand tightening, & I’ve never had them come loose. Fits any router that accepts standard 1-3/16” OD threaded guide bushing Machined solid brass construction Includes 7 template guides: 1/4” ID x 5/16” OD; 9/32” ID ...

Harbor Freight 1-ton foldable shop crane

Harbor Freight 1-ton foldable shop crane

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93840 Like many of you, I’m leery of a lot of Harbor Freight items, but I decided to take a chance on this shop crane to lift a couple of heavy machines onto their stands – an 8” parallelogram jointer and this 14” bandsaw. It’s really nothing more than a hydraulic jack and some welded steel tubing, so what could go wrong? As recommended, I got a bottle of jack oil at the same time as the crane...

Great Quality Razor Blade Scraper

Great Quality Razor Blade Scraper

02-10-2010 09:29 PM by dfdye | 6 comments »

Why the heck am I writing a review of a razor blade scraper? Well, because I have destroyed about a dozen of them in my time and finally found one that has been great to work with. When I finally find a cheap tool that works, I have to share! I got this as an impulse buy for $2.00 while in the check out line at Harbor Freight, and have never looked back. I am sure that everybody on this forum has a million uses for single edged razor blades, and, if you are anything like me, you have tri...

HF 36" Aluminum Bar Clamps, moderately average

HF 36" Aluminum Bar Clamps, moderately average

01-24-2010 04:40 AM by Jeison | 16 comments »

I needed some larger clamps for an upcoming project, and saw these on sale, I got a bunch of the 36” clamps on sale (reg 11.99, but sale + coupon got em for $5.95 each). I think they’re Central Forge brand (like the HF one handed clamps). They have a 32” actual clamping capacity I gave em a little bit of a workout clamping up some scraps to make a few boards, they put some solid pressure on without exploding, so thats always a plus lol! My main concern is that after ...

A great price on an acceptable clamp

A great price on an acceptable clamp

01-20-2010 07:20 AM by HungryTermite | 22 comments »

I was at the local Harbor Freight over the holidays and I noticed a bin full of 18” Ratcheting Bar clamps on sale for $2.99 each. The seemed to work well in the store and all were covered with a little bit of oil, presumably to protect the metallic parts. I didn’t really have a need for new clamps and I wasn’t sure if an 18” clamp would be useful or not but I figured I really couldn’t go wrong for only $2.99 (regularly $7.99 I think) so I bought 6 of them. T...

Great budget way to get into spraying finishes...

Great budget way to get into spraying finishes...

01-11-2010 07:24 PM by mckenziedrums | 25 comments »

I live or die by my sprayed finishes. In fact, I often joke that I learned woodworking backwards… Long before I even knew what a rabbet cut was I could tell you how to spray a mirror smooth finish. These days I see more and more folks looking into HVLP spraying systems but worried about spending the cash. This little gun goes on sale from time to time and can be had for $29-49 depending on what the price is that week at Harborfreight. I’ve had this in my arsenal for 2 years now...

Harbor frieght multi function tool

Harbor frieght multi function tool

Let me start by saying I bought this tool based on a review on Lumberjocks, and even though I am rating it 3 stars overall, that is only because fractions of stars are not allowed. (I would rate it 3.95 stars.) I purchased this tool mostly out of a totally new medical condition found in woodworkers around the globe: IsawaninfomercialforthefeinmodelbutcantafforditbuthismightworksoreallywanttotryitandseeifsomethinglikethisisusefulsoIcanjustifyspendingthemoneyforthefeintothewifeitis I used...

Not much to say about this. I needed to finally replace the sanding belt cleaner I had as I had worn it out. (Still on the same belt FWIW). I hopped into Harbor Freight, and picked one of these up. Sale price of $3.99, and since I wasn’t getting anything more expensive, I threw the 20% coupon on it for an additional $.80 savings for a total before tax of $3.19… Got the thing home, and it is EXACTLY the same item as I had purchased at the big name woodworking supply and hardware...

Good, low cost toggle clamps at Harbor Freight

Good, low cost toggle clamps at Harbor Freight

Just sharing this. When something raises my eyebrows and gets me thinking then maybe it’s worth passing on. I’m going to talk bang for buck. I hope you don’t mind. Yup, I’ve got a few harbor freight tools but not much. I’ve had mixed luck with them. But a friend let me see one of these toggle clamps. I have some from a wood store and I must say, they are very similar but not identical and but both seem to be of the same quality. They’re probably both fr...
