Harbor Freight Router Inlay Kit

Harbor Freight Router Inlay Kit

920 days ago by ChuckC | 9 comments »

I recently bought the Harbor Freight Inlay Kit. HF obviously doesn’t make it but there’s no other name on the package. I was looking at them from other stores and for $35 for the kit and even more for the templates I always passed it up. This one was $10 and I had a coupon that brought it down to $8. The HF one even adds a centering pin which was a nice touch and the bushing is solid brass. I still needed templates so I designed something quick in Sketchup and cut it out on the...

A true Pocket Hole Master !!!!!

A true Pocket Hole Master !!!!!

Well, I’ve resisted buying one of these pocket hole jugs for more years that I can recall mainly because, I never thought I would ever use one and I don’t use screws when making fine furniture. Shop jigs and Tables get a screw here and there but not too often. Any way while I’ve been watching this thing for years, the prices on this have gone up so much the last few years so I decided to get one before it hits the 80+ mark. I didn’t even want to consider the other pocket hole jigs. Right fro...

So VERY Thankful no one was hurt!!

So VERY Thankful no one was hurt!!

This could have easily become the most expensive tool in the shop! We bought this adjustable circle cutter a few weeks ago at Harbor Freight. Seemed like it’d be a useful little tool. I’d set it up once on the drill press and used it to drill a test hole on a piece of pine. The arms sticking out spinning around made me kind of uneasy so I switched to a hole cutting saw bit. My husband set the cutter up today on the DP and was using it. One of the cutters came loose during operatio...

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

Decent Dust Collection Really Cheap

1183 days ago by patcollins | 6 comments »

My 1970’s Craftsman Contractors saw has zero dust collection and much of it falls straight down so I thought about using some sort of bag for it. I happened on this canvas “Table Saw Dust Bag” at Harbor Freight and it was only $5.99 so I thought I would give it a whirl. The material is pretty cheap and the snaps aren’t anywhere close to being put on straight or even, but that’s alright. The bag came with the male end of the snaps attached to sheet metal scre...

HF Mobile Base is Dead On and Rock Solid!

HF Mobile Base is Dead On and Rock Solid!

767 days ago by Bob | 15 comments »

INTRO:I spent way too much time researching mobile bases. In the end, despite the nay sayers, I decided to give the HF mobile base a try. I paid $29.95 with a super coupon. ASSEMBLY:The metal brackets are very thick. I ripped some SYP I had lying around to the 1 1/4” x 1 1/4 dimension specified. There is a formula in the manual that tells you exactly how long to cut your wood pieces. As a double check, I placed each of the brackets (with bolts in place) against the 4 corners of ...

Why pay more?

Why pay more?

I bought a new (used) craftsman belt drive table saw about a month ago and was amazed at the vibration. So, following the lead of all the LJ’s who love their link belts, I thought I’d give it a try. In comparing prices, I found two price points:- Harbor freight at $4 per foot, and- Everyone else at $8 per foot. Yankee that I am, guess which price point I chose? I adjusted the length and installed the belt in under 30 minutes last night (Note: I sized the belt to match th...

For The Money Unlikely To Be Beat, But Must Have Sense Of Humor When Assembling

For The Money Unlikely To Be Beat, But Must Have Sense Of Humor When Assembling

So, we will be moving into a new house this summer and I will be moving my woodworking tools to the basement from the garage, where opening the garage door and running a shop vac provided adequate ventiliation and dust collection. Not so in the new basement, so I decided I would invest in a dust collector. After reading many reviews, it seemed that the Harbor Freight 2HP DC unit was a fair value. I decided to take the harbor freight plunge given the cost of name brand units and with my fin...

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Very Happy with this Dust Collector

Between sale price and coupon, the price was low enough that I took the plunge and bought the HF 2HP DC. —Starting with assembly:— You end up doing quite of bit of assembly with this unit, not just 2 or 3 connections. The very first thing I did when unpacking the unit was to plug the motor in to make sure it ran. I didn’t want to assemble the whole thing and then discover the motor didn’t work. It fired right up, no problems. I’ve seen talk on the intern...

Say hello to my little friend, The Harbor Freight 4oz. Detail Spray Gun.

Say hello to my little friend, The Harbor Freight 4oz. Detail Spray Gun.

I am generally loathe to buy Harbor Freight tools if they have a motor/moving parts, probably snobbish on my part, and not springing from a lot of actual experiential data. But I have had my eye on this little gun for some time, and as it had dropped in price from $15.00 to the ridiculously low price of $12.95, I jumped on it. I mean how bad can it go, this is the disposable chip brush of spray guns, so if it sucked I wouldn’t cry and would have bought an education in “you get wha...

Harbor Freight Surprise

Harbor Freight Surprise

Sometimes I just can’t resist. If this plane set had been real junk, I’d have been out $11.99….............so I decided to live dangerously …. after all, I’m not even that much of a hand tool guy. I took the big chance and used a coupon and brought it home. I’m only reviewing the #4 here because the little block plane really is just silly. Out of the bubble pack, with the copious oil removed, it actually cut and was sort of sharp. To me the test of a ha...
