I’ve always called Harbor Freight “God’s gift to men” and since there’s been a bit of hubub about this tool paradise on this site recently I thought I’d post some reviews of my favorite HF Gems… This one I just bought TODAY and I already can see that it is among the best tools in the store! For one thing, this thing is extremely well made! That isn’t always the case at HF… ok… I suppose it is RARELY the case. But if you had this j...

Harbor Freight Link Belt

Harbor Freight Link Belt

11-30-2010 12:15 AM by ChuckC | 22 comments »

A Harbor Freight opened up about 15 minutes from where I live. I took a ride out yesterday and walked the aisles for about 30 minutes. It’s not the kind of place I’d buy a parachute from but you can get a good deal on some of their stuff. I ended up buying a 5’ link belt for $24. I replaced the stock belt on my jointer with it and noticed a dramatic improvement in vibration. I’ve never had a competitors belt to compare it against but I am happy with their’s so I&...

Hooray for Harbor Freight and to heck with Fastenall

Hooray for Harbor Freight and to heck with Fastenall

Three years ago I bought a cheapy set of drill/countersinks. The bits broke almost immediately, so I thought I would get some quality bits and went to the Fastenall store in Lancaster, Ca. He had to order them. I sent the wife in to pick them up, three weeks later. Four packages of ten bits each, $54.00!!!! I nearly choked, but a deal is a deal and I did want a good quality bit.The only good quality that I got was the plastic containers which I still use for my replacement bits. lolI could no...

Harbor Freight #95288 - If u don't weld - bolt it!

I commented favorably on the “Rock Solid” review after my 1st assembly using SYP runners for a lightweight (100 lb) planer. I wanted to graduate to my 220 lb tools and felt the other favorable comments for this base warranted a “go”. I priced hardwood, but only furniture quality was available that was dried and cost prohibitive for me. One of our fellow LJs used square steel and welded it up, so I decided to price square galvanized tubing found locally and was amazed ...

Harbor Freight Scroll Saw

Harbor Freight Scroll Saw

06-07-2012 05:20 AM by Remedyman | 12 comments »

It was suggested that I review this product so I figure what the heck, the least I can do is try to add to the community. I have had the saw for about 2 weeks now. Overall, I think it is a great saw. I have cut plywood and pine with it. I haven’t had the chance to run any hardwood through it yet. It doesn’t cut fast but it is a scroll saw so it isn’t expected to. One thing I have to give it credit for, it isn’t very heavy but it doesn’t jump around my tab...

Harbor Freight Surprise

Harbor Freight Surprise

Sometimes I just can’t resist. If this plane set had been real junk, I’d have been out $11.99….............so I decided to live dangerously …. after all, I’m not even that much of a hand tool guy. I took the big chance and used a coupon and brought it home. I’m only reviewing the #4 here because the little block plane really is just silly. Out of the bubble pack, with the copious oil removed, it actually cut and was sort of sharp. To me the test of a ha...

Harbor Freight Super Coupons

Harbor Freight Super Coupons

07-03-2013 05:06 PM by Tennessee | 12 comments »

I found that if I look hard enough you can find better than average coupons for HF, (higher than 20%) online that will actually work.I just found a number of them here:http://www.retailmenot.com/view/harborfreight.com I chose the 25% super coupon that is not printable, about 6 or 7th on the list.It worked, and I saved 16.25 over the sale price of 64.99 on the pocket hole drill jig. Unfortunately, after being hit 6.99 for standard shipping, and sales tax since I have a brick and mortar H...

Harbor Freight 38536 Bandfile vs. Proxxon 38536 BSL115/E Bandfile

Harbor Freight 38536 Bandfile vs. Proxxon 38536 BSL115/E Bandfile

At first glance, you all must be saying to yourselves, “What are you thinking, Paul – these are not even in the same category.” Well, I own both of them, and after having them both on the bench for jewelry box projects and some touch-up work on guitar bodies, I found out that they both have strengths, weaknesses, and overall, I think it deserved a head-to-head contest. Agreed, the HF is thirty bucks, and the cheapest I found the Proxxon was One hundred and forty,WHEW (I got...

Harbor Freight Bar Clamps

Harbor Freight Bar Clamps

04-26-2009 05:27 PM by PCorl | 51 comments »

First off I agree with some here at LJ that Harbor Freight makes some real junk. I also agree with some here at LJ that Harbor Freight makes some pretty good stuff. I have been using Harbor Freight (Pittsburgh) F style bar clamps for some time now and am totally satisfied with them. For the cost they can’t be beat. When they aren’t on sale they range in price from $2.99 for a 6” clamp to $9.99 for the 36” model. On sale they are cheaper yet, I think I paid $1.99...

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

When I first began dabbling in woodworking, I had zero clamps and high aspirations. Stocking up on the well F-style Harbor Freight clamps seemed like a good idea. For months, I impulsively made trips to HF and picked up one HF F-style bar clamp (using a 20% off coupon) and 1 freebie per trip. Fast forward 2 years, and I now have 10×6”, 6×12”, 2×18” and 2×24”. Overall impression is that the HF F-style clamp was the most inexpensive way of jump st...
