My table saw could not have broken at a worse time, or a better time.

My table saw could not have broken at a worse time, or a better time.

Last August, I was starting a new project; an oak fireplace mantel for a friend. I guess my 10+ year old Delta (cheap inboard motor model) could not take the strain and let out what souded like a high pitched scream and stopped with a puff of white smoke. After a few explatives and a sudden realization that my project was on hold, I went inside and started looking online for a new saw. I read so many reviews, my head started to spin, but I knew I wanted another Delta. If it is good enough for...

Delta 1950's 4" Jointer - Rebuild

Delta 1950's 4" Jointer - Rebuild

I thought I would post a review of a “vintage” tool I refurbished a few months back. I currently have a small shop, and was looking at bechtop jointers. Happened to mention my search at the office, and one of the guys indicated he had an old jointer that he was no longer using. After $50.00, and his help to lift it into my truck, I was off on a re-furb project. As the price of new tools continues to rise, along with the cost of fuel and food, I think there is more opport...

Excellent Saw, Great Power, Good Price

Excellent Saw, Great Power, Good Price

I purchased the 10” Hybrid saw in December last year, so it has been in the shop fewer than two months. But in these two months we have grown quite close. My wife named her “Biesy Baby” after the fence.I’ll touch on a few of the more important points in my review of the saw, and hopefully add some insight into your shopping experience. Features: The saw came, as the name states, with the left tilt feature. Two noted luxuries this affords are in large mitred-edge ...

Maybe it's just me but I don't like this one

Maybe it's just me but I don't like this one

Bought this 6” Delta benchtop jointer a few months ago for my shop. I choose the benchtop version because of limited space and the fact that most of my projects are small, boxes, clocks, etc. I think that I have made a mistake on this one, I have had several problems with it. The first thing I noticed was that the outfeed table had a dip on the end farthest from the blades. I brought it to the authorized factory repair center and they replaced the outfeed table. Since then, I have ...

Not the worst, but...

Not the worst, but...

Okay, I realized when I spent $99 on a table saw that I would be getting what I payed for, but I was just starting out and really needed something. I picked up a decent blade for it and hoped for the best. Power: none. It can barely cut a 2” x 4” through the “2” side, don’t even bet on the “4” side. Reliability: Well it hasn’t broken on me yet, but I lost the arbor wrench and without it I can’t change the blade. If you get one, do...

Delta 22-580 13-Inch Benchtop Planer

Delta 22-580 13-Inch Benchtop Planer

I have had this planer for going on 2 years now. I have nothing but praise for it.I got it used but like new condition. It has 2 sppeds. A dimensioning speed of 60 cpi allows you to shave rough wood to its desired thicknessquickly with no snipe. Then a quicker finishing speed of 90 cpi, your wood comes out ultrasmooth and ready to go. The double-sided M2 steel knives are powered by a 15 amp, 120-volt, single-phase motor. It has a blade zero indicator (which lets you set the cutterhead t...

A GREAT SAW

A GREAT SAW

01-27-2008 09:45 PM by bfd | 11 comments »

In my opinion you can’t buy a better saw for the money when it comes to quality. I disagree with the other post on one point calling this a great saw for a beginner. I think it is a great saw period! I don’t concider myself a beginner nor do I concider myself a pro by any means but somewhere in the middle like most. With that said I don’t think this saw will be a purchase that I will regret or out grow any time soon. I opted for the 30” Beisemeyer Fence and have upgr...

Delta did it right for this drill press

Delta did it right for this drill press

This heavy-duty 16-1/2-inch drill press from Delta will do the job. The 3/4-horsepower motor that can be wired for either 115 or 230 volts. It gives you an deep plunge length of 4-7/8 inches. Chuck holds up to a 5/8-inch-diameter bit. Solid cast-iron construction and a 3-1/8-inch column The table rotates, 45 degrees each way for drilling angles. On of my favorite features is the depth stop. Instead of screwing it up and down the shaft it hasa quick release button to dis-engage ...

Delta Dust Collector Model 50-760

Delta Dust Collector Model 50-760

I also have this dust collector and have been very pleased with it. The one micron top bag does an excellent job of filtering. My garage shop is small and I simply move the dust collector around or switch the hose from one machine to another. At this point I don’t intend to add any piping other than to perhaps rig something for my router table. Prior to purchasing the Delta unit, I used an old Sears shop vacuum. The Delta unit is much quieter and does a dramatically better job. ...

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

01-22-2008 06:29 AM by jstewart | 4 comments »

I’ve owned my saw for only a year now, so I haven’t had as much time with it as many of the other LJs out there. Still I think I’ve become good friends with it already. As a person that is new to woodworking, I think this saw is outstanding. Up front, let me make this clear. The model number 36-979 refers only to the saw with 2 cast iron wings. I bought the Delta 36-980 which is the saw (36-979) plus a 30” T-fence. Other Delta models such as the 36-977, 978, 98...
