The last drill press I plan on owning

The last drill press I plan on owning

01-15-2012 11:27 PM by Hoakie | 20 comments »

This is the second drill press I’ve owned, but the first serious one. As you can see in one of the pictures, I had the 10” Craftsman drill press. It had a 2 1/8” quill travel and a 2/3 hp motor. Although it got small jobs done, it was never fun to use and I cursed it out every time I needed to. Obviously the Delta 18-900L is in a whole different class so any real comparison is moot. However, I can say that I don’t seem myself ever cursing this bad boy out. I pur...

Dissapointed

Dissapointed

I am dissapointed with my Delta 50-760 for the following reasons…1. It is too loud.2.It cannot pick up more than ten handplane shavings with out blocking all the grids inside.3.I cannot use it anywhere near my chopsaw, small offcuts have caused several dents in the case when they slam into the inner parts.4.I touch the large fabric bag and a cloud of fine dust falls, Am I breathing this stuff?

Mortiser Falls Short on Key Features

Mortiser Falls Short on Key Features

When I first got this it was the best thing since fancy cut pickles. Since then (5 tables, 8 chairs and and an entertainment center later), I have had the chisel stuck in my workpiece more times than I can count. I can tell you why… it has no roller wheels or clamps to hold the workpiece tight against the fence. Thus when you try to remove the bit, it rocks the workpiece and binds the bit. Problem #2 : The hold down clamp rod does flex quite a bit. I think this could be solved w...

Good Price Great Stand

Good Price Great Stand

08-31-2011 03:08 PM by Chipy | 4 comments »

I have seen a few reviews on Lumber Jocks ware the reviewer posted a review on a tool that has been owned for a few years and I thought, boy that makes a lot of sense. When you have had the tool for a few years I think you get to know the good the bad and ugly and sometimes great with more certainty.Today I am reviewing a Delta mobile miter saw/planer tool stand. I have also have seen this stand under the Porter Cable brand name. Although it sells under two names I am 90% sure they are the s...

A must for Delta portable planers

A must for Delta portable planers

08-17-2011 04:11 AM by Kevin | 13 comments »

Not going to go into great detail here on this review. Ordered one from amazon.com yesterday and it arrived this morning. Replacing the original shroud with this one was a brease, took about 1 minute if that. I did however drill two holes in the bottom left/right of the shroud and into the planer to make it more sturdy. Hooked up a 6.5hp shop vac to it and planed some boards. Taking 1/16 – 1/8 off each pass the shop vac didn’t leave any chips/dust behind. For $25 dollars...

Review of DELTA X5 6" Professional Jointer

Review of DELTA X5 6" Professional Jointer

After my little Craftsman 4” jointer died, circ 1951, I decided to up grade. I looked at a lot of brands and me being a big Delta fan I decided to go with there DeltaX5 6” professional jointer. This machine comes in two boxes one contains the motor/stand, and other goodies. The other box has the jointer and fence system. Once again I have to deal with a heavy Delta box. The machine took about an hour to put together.. One thing that is nice is Delta already mounts the motor, and t...

Review of Delta 14" Bandsaw, Sawing with a Delta

Review of Delta 14" Bandsaw, Sawing with a Delta

When it came to buying a new bandsaw, I really took my time on which one I wanted. I looked at all the main brands, and compared the difference. There were really not very many difference. They all cut wood…I ended up going with the brand that pioneered the 14” bandsaw, Delta Machinery. I bought this bad boy at Rockler when they had there 15% of Delta tools. The Bandsaw comes in one big box, and it weighs a lot. The way the box was shaped it was very hard for two people to h...

What an upgrade for an old Craftsman TS

What an upgrade for an old Craftsman TS

I’ve got an older (Emerson) Craftsman TS (113.298240). The stock fence is a joke, but I’ve made do. I finally decided to do something about it, and a T2 was it. Got it at Tools-Plus for $148 + 6.50 shipping. It came pretty well packed via UPS. The box was a bit caved in, but the parts were fine. Excellent manual, very clear, real English. The fence is made in Taiwan. Fit and finish appear to be excellent. There are two ways to mount the fence to this TS. One is to dril...

Delta 31-260x Drum Sander Review

Delta 31-260x Drum Sander Review

Delta Drum Sander 31-260x Video Review on youtube Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koEMTEoB2rA Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLfVV_1LDes&feature=related Disclaimer I would rather of not chosen something like the Delta drum sander, but finding a used commercial unit that I liked had been a battle over the past year. To be honest, I really did not want a sander with only a 1-1/2 HP motor although width was not an issue here. I wanted something like a 5 HP 26” ...
