This was not my first lathe- the first lathe I got was the $89 lathe reviewed here if you want more information. For a starter lathe it wasn’t bad but I was desperate for something a little more… more. The Delta 46-460 VS was a Christmas gift from my family (desperately needed to create my family’s Christmas gifts!) and compared to what I had been using, it was huge improvement. Right out of the box the VS control box was cracked and would have been unusable, except it turns...

Using the Delta T-2 to replace the Ridgid 4511 fence

Using the Delta T-2 to replace the Ridgid 4511 fence

03-26-2012 01:55 AM by MoshupTrail | 15 comments »

A few weeks ago I started a forum topic about fixing the lame fence system that came with the Ridgid 4511 Granite top table saw. The problem with the Ridgid’s fence is that the guide tube is split and joined in the middle with a cheap plastic part. The plastic part forces one of the tubes to be slightly offset from the other making it impossible to adjust the fence angle. When the fence slides from one tube to the other the angle will change slightly. Initially I was thinking to...

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

I was lucky enough to get this saw while Woodcraft’s had it on sale for $349.00 last week. It was delivered today and I stoped everything I was doing and put it together. After reading reviews that dinged it for some problems I inspected it carefully. One of the issues was the attach screws for the light. I inspected the screws and then the threads in the saw housing. I found that the first few threads were non existant and the screws were just a bit to short and had no bite. I bought l...

Well Dec was a good month; Blondie gave the approval for me to buy more machines… LOL… I picked up the Delta 18/36 Drum Sander & now this Delta 18 drill press. The box was in great condition, and they brought it into the garage for me. . I also ordered the Biesemeyer fence for her as well. Blondie and I had it together in less than an hour. The only hard part was lifting the head on to the shaft. Once she told me to quit being a whip and lift it, we got it on th...

Delta 18-36 x5 drum sander.

First off Thanks to Joe Lydon who introduced me to his buddy Bob that was selling this sander. I mentioned to him I was going to buy one and he told me about a buddy that had one that he never used. I’m not normally good at buying used stuff, but I trusted Joe. Bod said, “If I didn’t like it I could return it for a refund.” (Who does that now a day?) Not a bad deal for used sander. I was shocked how clean this was when I arrived. We agreed on the price and off we went. 5 stars t...

Delta saw rebuild

Delta saw rebuild

I bought this saw on craigslist from a guy for $650. It was in really rough shape. Things were taken apart and it was covered in some sort of overspray from what seemed like flocking material. I had to scrub it all down with goof off and then buff it with auto compound. Luckily the factory decal covers were all still on the aluminum plates so those peeled off easily and it looked almost perfect underneath except for some scratches on the front plate. The motor cover was missing the attachment...

The last drill press I plan on owning

The last drill press I plan on owning

01-15-2012 11:27 PM by Hoakie | 20 comments »

This is the second drill press I’ve owned, but the first serious one. As you can see in one of the pictures, I had the 10” Craftsman drill press. It had a 2 1/8” quill travel and a 2/3 hp motor. Although it got small jobs done, it was never fun to use and I cursed it out every time I needed to. Obviously the Delta 18-900L is in a whole different class so any real comparison is moot. However, I can say that I don’t seem myself ever cursing this bad boy out. I pur...

Dissapointed

Dissapointed

I am dissapointed with my Delta 50-760 for the following reasons…1. It is too loud.2.It cannot pick up more than ten handplane shavings with out blocking all the grids inside.3.I cannot use it anywhere near my chopsaw, small offcuts have caused several dents in the case when they slam into the inner parts.4.I touch the large fabric bag and a cloud of fine dust falls, Am I breathing this stuff?

Mortiser Falls Short on Key Features

Mortiser Falls Short on Key Features

When I first got this it was the best thing since fancy cut pickles. Since then (5 tables, 8 chairs and and an entertainment center later), I have had the chisel stuck in my workpiece more times than I can count. I can tell you why… it has no roller wheels or clamps to hold the workpiece tight against the fence. Thus when you try to remove the bit, it rocks the workpiece and binds the bit. Problem #2 : The hold down clamp rod does flex quite a bit. I think this could be solved w...
