Delta 18-36 x5 drum sander.

First off Thanks to Joe Lydon who introduced me to his buddy Bob that was selling this sander. I mentioned to him I was going to buy one and he told me about a buddy that had one that he never used. I’m not normally good at buying used stuff, but I trusted Joe. Bod said, “If I didn’t like it I could return it for a refund.” (Who does that now a day?) Not a bad deal for used sander. I was shocked how clean this was when I arrived. We agreed on the price and off we went. 5 stars t...

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

01-22-2008 06:29 AM by jstewart | 4 comments »

I’ve owned my saw for only a year now, so I haven’t had as much time with it as many of the other LJs out there. Still I think I’ve become good friends with it already. As a person that is new to woodworking, I think this saw is outstanding. Up front, let me make this clear. The model number 36-979 refers only to the saw with 2 cast iron wings. I bought the Delta 36-980 which is the saw (36-979) plus a 30” T-fence. Other Delta models such as the 36-977, 978, 98...

Another Screaming Bargain of a Saw Blade

Another Screaming Bargain of a Saw Blade

This review is as much a deal alert as it is a testimonial. This deal has been on Ebay for several weeks now from Cripe Distribution, and I’m amazed people haven’t scarfed these up like free champagne. If you’re not familiar with it, the Delta 35-7657 was originally the DeWalt DW7657 40T ATB general purpose blade….the same blade that Wood Mag rated favorably against the Forrest WWII a few years back when it was considered a good bargain at $50. It appears to be the sa...

Delta Q3 40-650 Scroll Saw

Delta Q3 40-650 Scroll Saw

01-30-2011 06:51 AM by gbrown4 | 2 comments »

I recently acquired this Q3 scroll saw from Craig’s list. I was able to barter for it, amazon.com gift card trade. The seller acquired it from her father who recently passed away. The seller had no clue what it was so she was eager to trade for it. First off I notice it was missing the off/on switch and knob. It was rusty and dirty. I found a switch for $2.50 and replace the bent screws on the quick set blade clamp both upper and lower. I cleaned up the surface rust and wiped eve...

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

Delta 40-690 20" scroll saw

I was lucky enough to get this saw while Woodcraft’s had it on sale for $349.00 last week. It was delivered today and I stoped everything I was doing and put it together. After reading reviews that dinged it for some problems I inspected it carefully. One of the issues was the attach screws for the light. I inspected the screws and then the threads in the saw housing. I found that the first few threads were non existant and the screws were just a bit to short and had no bite. I bought l...

The last drill press I plan on owning

The last drill press I plan on owning

01-15-2012 11:27 PM by Hoakie | 20 comments »

This is the second drill press I’ve owned, but the first serious one. As you can see in one of the pictures, I had the 10” Craftsman drill press. It had a 2 1/8” quill travel and a 2/3 hp motor. Although it got small jobs done, it was never fun to use and I cursed it out every time I needed to. Obviously the Delta 18-900L is in a whole different class so any real comparison is moot. However, I can say that I don’t seem myself ever cursing this bad boy out. I pur...

New Delta Unisaw

New Delta Unisaw

04-24-2010 11:01 AM by Eric | 11 comments »

I recently retired from Air National Guard, after spending 26.5 years on, active duty, reserve or guard. My wife suggested I treat myself to a retirement gift. I suggested a new Delta Unisaw and she said, “Yes”. My reply was “What”? It took me about a month to get over sticker shock and order the saw. So it was delivered to my garage. Now how to get it into my walk out basement? The big box weighs around 450 pounds. How to get it to my shop in the basement? My wife called a moving...

What an upgrade for an old Craftsman TS

What an upgrade for an old Craftsman TS

06-23-2011 03:47 PM by brtech | 9 comments »

I’ve got an older (Emerson) Craftsman TS (113.298240). The stock fence is a joke, but I’ve made do. I finally decided to do something about it, and a T2 was it. Got it at Tools-Plus for $148 + 6.50 shipping. It came pretty well packed via UPS. The box was a bit caved in, but the parts were fine. Excellent manual, very clear, real English. The fence is made in Taiwan. Fit and finish appear to be excellent. There are two ways to mount the fence to this TS. One is to dril...

Nice new lathe thats 23 years old

Nice new lathe thats 23 years old

I just had the opportunity to purchase a very well maintained (Very little use) Delta DL40. It has a digital variable speed control that is on the front in the middle or can be relocated to the end near the tail stock. It has a 1.5hp motor that is also reversible with a push of a button. There is an enormous 48+ inches between centers and a 16 inch potential for bowls on the right side and 24 inch bowl on the outside of the head stock. I was also fortunate to obtain three face plates, ste...
