I don’t normally review products, but this is one i’d like to because I can’t say enough good about the people at Howard. Long story short, several months ago I bought a bottle of Howard’s Cutting Board Oil. Around a month later, I was fortunate to sell a large number of my products to a high end decor store. Despite years of trying, we never really broke our cat of racing up the stairs and then launching herself at the door jamb, semi-firmly grasping the molding with her claws and sliding down. The results were predictable. Selling the house provided an unwanted opportunity to test this product. I was impressed with this product after applying it to some cutting boards recently. In the past I have used mineral oil, which leaves an oily finish that never seems to dry. The Butcher Block Conditioner is a mix of mineral oil and natural waxes, so it dries to a smooth satin finish after 20 minutes. A quick wipe-down and the wood feels great. Available at Home Depot. I think it is worth a try.

I was looking for a paste wax that was…1. Easy to apply2. Wouldn’t leave swirl marks3. Dark enough to avoid white wax marks on brown finishes4. Not so dark that it would change the color of my furniture5. Thick enough to fill fine scratches in the lacquer6.
