Let me first say that I am writing this review to provide potential buyers with a first hand experience, not to open up the ever growing debate of madating the safety technology or what kind of person the founder is. With that said, on to the review. Backround: Let me start out by saying this is the 4th Table Saw I have owned. I started with a Delta job site saw that wasn’t good at all. It was mostly plastic and while it cut wood, it wasn’t much more then a circular saw turn...

All is not perfect in Saw Stop Land

All is not perfect in Saw Stop Land

While I don’t own a Saw Stop saw and do not doubt their quality and their potential for safety I was given pause by a part counter guy. I asked about the saw and the noted feature. I was told that there didn’t seem to be any problem about the saws or the safety feature but there was about the expense of “false alarms”. He said that most of the stop cartridges were sold due to false activations. When you see the demo of the guy holding the hot dog and then stopping ...

SawStop Contractor Saw

SawStop Contractor Saw

In woodworking almost always, the number one most used tool in the shop is a table saw (at least in my shop it is now). Well, it is because it is just plain hard to get by in woodworking without a table saw. I was without a table saw since the beginning of my woodworking career (two years ago). Just the inconvenience of having to buy lumber to width. Now as of 12/27/11 I am a proud owner of a SawStop contractor saw with cast iron wings and a 36” pro fence. Let me just say right now this sa...

SawStop 10-Inch Contractor saw. It's a complicated relationship.

SawStop 10-Inch Contractor saw. It's a complicated relationship.

Since the SawStop is really two products I am going to break this review down in to two parts. The first part is the saw it’s self and the other part is the break. I have had my SawStop for about a year now, it is, like the title says a 10-Inch contractor with 30” rails and outfeed table. Saw review. The saw it’s self is rather nice for a contractor saw. I would say it is very high quality manufacturing and there is great attention to detail. The directions like every othe...

SawStop 1.75HP Cabinet Saw with 36" rails review

SawStop 1.75HP Cabinet Saw with 36" rails review

06-30-2011 02:44 AM by Ty | 10 comments »

After much contemplation, I purchased the SawStop 1.75 Cabinet Saw with 36” rails. For several years, the only table saw I ever experienced was a Delta contractor saw. So yes, SawStop is a HUGE upgrade. First, the assembly directions are extremely well done. Absolutely no problem putting this saw together, other than the Woodcraft employee who didn’t know what SawStop was and failed to give me the correct rails. Aside from that issue, I was able to assemble the saw approximat...

So I bought a Sawstop. I was perfectly happy with my General International granite topped TS, but I have been increasingly concerned about my safety when using it. Namely, I’m an ER doctor, and need my fingers or most of them at least. I debated for a long time about this saw, and whether a) if I needed it (as I already am a very safe and careful TS user…most days) and b) if it really would help prevent a serious injury. In answer to “a”: I realized that as careful as I am using the TS, ...

SawStop Dust Collection Blade Guard & Over Arm Dust Collection

SawStop Dust Collection Blade Guard & Over Arm Dust Collection

Received this dust collection system for Christmas. Goes to show that momma pays attention when I send her hints. LOL! Anyway, installation is very easy and straight forward. The biggest issue, at least for the Contractor Saw is that the splitter & riving knife are slightly thicker with this upgrade. The old splitter/riving knife being .079 and the new one .090. This means you will need to readjust the riving knife lockdown clamp slightly so there isn’t to much pressure on the...

SawStop Industrial Cabinet Saw (ICS31230: 3 hp, 1 phase, 230 V, 13 A)

SawStop Industrial Cabinet Saw (ICS31230: 3 hp, 1 phase, 230 V, 13 A)

I purchased this table saw in early April 2010 and it arrived in early-mid May 2010. The delay, I found out later, was due to the fact that SawStop was making a transition to the new, upgraded industrial cabinet saw. Anyway, when the saw arrived, I was pleased to find out that SawStop had upgraded me to the new dust collection shroud, blade guard, and lock down throat plate for free. There have been several very detailed reviews of the SawStop Industrial Cabinet Saw here at LumberJocks, ...

Professional Cabinet Saw w/Mobile Base and 52" Rails

Professional Cabinet Saw w/Mobile Base and 52" Rails

I’ve had this for a few weeks now and have used it to finish up two projects. Many things to love and a few minor irritations. The saw was an upgrade from a Steel City Hybrid (the one just before the granite and the riving knives) which is what I have to compare against. Power and Cutting WoodFirst, the SawStop is not a hybrid so off to have 220V installed; wish I had done that sooner – I also rewired the bandsaw and nothing has tripped since. The plug is a ‘standard&#...

SawStop From Santa

SawStop From Santa

12-29-2009 02:24 AM by TomRetired | 25 comments »

Just a short review for now…..Santa just left it a few day go. It is a great saw, so far no draw backs. Cut out kitchen cabnets this weekend (3/4” ply wood) and it preformed like a champ. Well put it to the test in the weeks to come and have a full review, but right now a solid 5 start saw.
