While I don’t own a Saw Stop saw and do not doubt their quality and their potential for safety I was given pause by a part counter guy. I asked about the saw and the noted feature. I was told that there didn’t seem to be any problem about the saws or the safety feature but there was about the expense of “false alarms”. He said that most of the stop cartridges were sold due to false activations. When you see the demo of the guy holding the hot dog and then stopping ...

Review of the Sawstop Professional Cabinet Saw

Review of the Sawstop Professional Cabinet Saw

Intro: The saw is a 3hp, 585 pound monster. I purchased the 52” fence, hydraulic mobile base and extension table. Setting it up is definately a two person job (although I did it alone with help from my wife only in setting up the front rail). I did get help in lifting it onto the mobile base, however, as this is the only way to mount it to the base. The instructions call for help in setting the saw upright since the base cabinet weighs 200+ pounds. I was able to do it alone b...

SawStop Industrial Cabinet Saw (ICS31230: 3 hp, 1 phase, 230 V, 13 A)

I purchased this table saw in early April 2010 and it arrived in early-mid May 2010. The delay, I found out later, was due to the fact that SawStop was making a transition to the new, upgraded industrial cabinet saw. Anyway, when the saw arrived, I was pleased to find out that SawStop had upgraded me to the new dust collection shroud, blade guard, and lock down throat plate for free. There have been several very detailed reviews of the SawStop Industrial Cabinet Saw here at LumberJocks, ...

Excellent Quality, Anxiety Gone, Cost a Non-Factor

Excellent Quality, Anxiety Gone, Cost a Non-Factor

I just got back into wood working a little over a year ago and bought a very nice used Delta Contractor Saw. I had no issues with the power and attributes of a fine running machine. A fine running machine I operated for over a year without a blade guard (SHAME on me!) as my respect of the saw’s power was high and my fear was low on using this machine. I was ripping about a 12” wide board in half that was about a foot long. The wood rose up and kicked back, hitting me square in the...

Great saw, but not for the money

Great saw, but not for the money

04-18-2013 01:21 AM by Cole Tallerman | 41 comments »

So let me start off by saying this review is based on 6 months of hobbyist work and comparing to other saws on the market. Last summer, I had an accident with an old .113 table saw. My parents would not let me use another table saw unless I got a SawStop. So being 16 (not much of a budget) i went with the cheapest one; the contractor saw with 30” rails. (I ended up upgrading to cast iron wings). The good: The saw came perfectly aligned and packed beautifully with great directions....

Like a lot of woodworkers, buying a cabinet saw was a big commitment for me. It wasn’t just a big financial decision; I also wanted to be sure I was going to have enough time between kids, a career, and other stuff that I’d feel like I really got my money’s worth out of it. My Ridgid contractor’s saw was doing a nice job for me already. But I like to make cabinets and, at the end of the day, it’s just not convenient to break down a 4×8 sheet of plywood wi...

Contractors Saw

Contractors Saw

I just bought a SawStop two weeks ago. I bought the “contractors” saw instead of the cabinet saw. I put contractors in quotes because it still weighs over 300 lbs. I got the cast iron wings instead of the aluminum ones with a 36-inch fence, extension table, mobil base, dado cartridge, dado brake, for about $2300. Its the same exact table dimensions you get with the cabinet saw, but between $1000-$2000 cheaper. I would seriously look into the contractors saw. Really I don’t see any reason to g...

So I bought a Sawstop. I was perfectly happy with my General International granite topped TS, but I have been increasingly concerned about my safety when using it. Namely, I’m an ER doctor, and need my fingers or most of them at least. I debated for a long time about this saw, and whether a) if I needed it (as I already am a very safe and careful TS user…most days) and b) if it really would help prevent a serious injury. In answer to “a”: I realized that as careful as I am using the TS, ...

IntroThe saw is a 3hp, 635 pound behemoth. It is heavier than sin. Steel, Black, and Red are a good look for a saw. Very, very, very, expensive. Over $4000 with all accessories (fence, mobile base, dado cartridge, extra break cartridge, taxes). I know ….. that is really expensive. (And… I’m over it.) Why this saw: I have been taking woodworking classes for the last four years and have grown accustomed to working on the Unisaws and Powermatic cabinet saws. At home I was using a ...

SawStop 3HP Professional Cabinet Saw W/ 36" T-Glide Fence System

For many years I have used a General 50-185 Contractor saw. It performed well over the years but my woodworking has advanced enough that I wanted something a little better. I have looked at the major cabinet saw brands but came back to this one because the others didn’t really trump it in any way plus it has superior safety features. I know that there are a lot of SawStop haters out there but my decision had very specific reasoning to back it up. My right index finger was severed by shr...
