Nice Addition for a DeWALT TrackSaw

Nice Addition for a DeWALT TrackSaw

03-25-2013 12:04 AM by scarpenter002 | 2 comments »

For Christmas this year, I purchased a DeWALT TrackSaw (Review pending) and decided to add on the Router Adapter. I purchased it from Woodcraft, as they had all the items I wanted and also a 10% off sale in December. I paid $53.99, saving $6 with the sale. Shipping:The box was direct shipped from DeWALT and arrived in great shape via UPS. CompatibilityThis attachment not only fits most DeWALT models, but also has adapters to fit the Porter-Cable 690 & 890. UseI have only used t...

Outstanding countersink/bit combination

Outstanding countersink/bit combination

02-19-2013 03:32 AM by Rick M. | 12 comments »

Over the years I’ve tried a number of countersink + drill bit brands, most use a replaceable bit but they are all pretty mediocre and few lasted a year. I’ve owned this Dewalt set for several years and they still perform like the first day I brought them home. Some folks believe combination bits are gimmicky, preferring to use separate products but these might change their mind. Not only do the countersinks perform flawlessly, the tapered bits are exceptional and probably the best...

Replacement Hook and Loop Pads at Lowes

Replacement Hook and Loop Pads at Lowes

01-16-2013 05:19 PM by pintodeluxe | 2 comments »

The hook and loop pad on my Dewalt 421 sander gave out, and would no longer hold sanding disks. It lasted for 7-8 years, and I like my 421 more than the current Dewalt offering. I was surprised to find them in stock at Lowes. They run about $18, and better yet they fit many of the Dewalt 5” sanders. It works great, and restored my sander to like new. I now have two sanders so my wife can help! If your local Lowes doesn’t carry them, try Dewalt tools or https://www.too...

Clogs, Bogs, and Dogs

I have become accustomed to long lasting sandpaper like Norton 3x, and Freuds excellent ceramic blend sanding disks for my random orbit sander. I was running low on supplies, so I grabbed these Dewalt disks one day. Almost instantly the paper loads and clogs while sanding oak and Titebond II glue. The sanding was short lived, and I clocked about 8-10 minutes of sanding before switching pads. At first I thought the dust collection was excellent, then I realized it was only because these di...

DeWalt finally hears a who...torx conversion

The DeWalt 735 regularly gets positive reviews… This is sort of an addendum. I have championed this tool often, and Those who have kept up know I have a bias towards it. x y I run three of them now, and years of experience with the ins and outs of this loud but compact beast. The one knock this tool gets is the many complaints about the bolts stripping. While I have never done this, I will admit to feeling many times that it was _about to happen. And size of the factory key didn̵...

DeWalt Dust Extracting Vacuum.....As good as Festool?

DeWalt Dust Extracting Vacuum.....As good as Festool?

I bought this vacuum for $220 from Amazon a week or so ago to replace a 6 year old Craftsman shop vac. I was drawn to this one because of the auto-on switch and the suction adjustment feature. Those are two items I had been wanting after demoing a Fein and Festool vac. At about half the price of those vacuums, this one performs equally well. There are a few minor negatives, but my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Positives:-Excellent suction-variable speed/suction power is ...

Dewalt Edge Guide is a Smooth Slider

Dewalt Edge Guide is a Smooth Slider

This is a nice edgeguide that will expand the capabilities of your router. The fence is split, so you can slide it open for edge cuts, or keep it closed for inboard cuts. The guide locks down securely, and makes accurate cuts. It comes with everything you need, including knobs with springs to mount the guide to your router. The DW 618 uses the thicker rods, but it comes with some thinner rods for other Dewalt routers. This guide is helpful for cutting strip inlays, fluted columns, d...

New Table saw for my shop

New Table saw for my shop

11-05-2012 12:28 AM by jerrells | 21 comments »

Well I finally burn out my old cheap table saw. I guess cutting some hard oak limbs was too much for it. I shopped around for something that I thought woul;d fit my needs for years to come. I decided on the Dewalt 745. It is going to be a Christmas present from my wife, my daughter and son-in-law and some money i pitched in. I was going to wait till black Friday to see if there was a better price. I normally show at Lowes and they had it for $369 which seemed to be the going price. I just hap...

Great Circular Saw

Great Circular Saw

10-17-2012 02:19 PM by pendledad | 5 comments »

So my experience is limited with circular saws. I used my Dad’s 1980’s craftsman a few times and I was always terrified at how loud it was. Anyways, I’m sure I would be very happy with any new circular saw that I purchased because I’ve really only used an old chunky low quality saw with a crappy blade. Anyways, here is my thought process on why I chose this saw and my first impressions from using it. Off to HD for some hands on… Step 1—FitRegardles...

Took a chance with 12V ...

10-08-2012 03:24 PM by pendledad | 13 comments »

I was at HD comparing the 18/20V monster DeWalt and Rigid cordless drills and impact drivers. I was looking for an all around good drill/driver kit that I can use in the shop but also around the house for odds and ends. I don’t have any serious construction projects in the foreseeable future, so I didn’t need the 20V power house stuff that can drive 500 3” deck screws into treated lumber. One thing I really liked was the size/weight of the 12V lines. I compared the Milw...
