Hi All, ‘Picked up this 734 dewalt last week at Lowes. They had just dropped the price down to $399. I know you can get it for less at other stores on line but the shippng is outrageous so…. I have used other people’s planers….and this 734 is the best yet. It is a three knife system and gives a very smooth surface but the best feature is it’s 4 post hold down on the blades. The knife also has a a lock.. I plane short boards due to the size of my shop….w...

Big Foot Scroll Saw Lift Arm

Big Foot Scroll Saw Lift Arm

07-15-2013 07:18 PM by jerrells | 15 comments »

I received my Big Foot scroll saw lift arm today and installed it in under three minutes. You will need a Torx T-35 tool to get the existing bolts out. Also be sure to watch the installation video to get the parts in the right order. With as much scrolling as I do this will be a very useful add-on to save time and frustration when changing blades or putting the blade through a hole in the center of a large piece of work. Very easy to use; just lift the scroll saw arm and it will lock in pl...

My DW788 Scrollsaw Review and purchase experience.

My DW788 Scrollsaw Review and purchase experience.

I was told the saw would be received in a week and I got it in about 4 days which was really nice. I also bought the stand that goes with the saw for an extra $46 and it was money well spent. The stand was very easy to assemble. I unpacked the saw (I bought a Used but New one) and could tell the saw had been opened and then repacked. The saw was in perfect condition, no scratches or blemishes at all. I picked the saw up and placed it on the stand and put the tear drop table on which was a sna...

The DeWalt DWP611PK 1.25 HP Max Torque Variable Speed Compact Router

Well by now I’m sure you’ve many things about this router. Probably more good than bad. I can say without reservation all the good things are true.I bought it about a week ago (mail order) but have been sick and haven’t had a chance to use it until this weekend. The project I cut it’s teeth on is a white oak sofa table. So far I have only done round overs, slot cutting and running a trim bit. It has performed flawlessly! The variable speed is easily adjusted on the fly....

Dewalt D55140 oil-free compressor

Dewalt D55140 oil-free compressor

04-16-2011 02:06 PM by phtools | 10 comments »

This compressor is fairly powerful, when it works… if you’ll notice, a lot of people have problems with this unit quitting working after a certain amount of time, and here’s the reason and the fix for those who are at all curious… There’s something wrong with the way this unit draws power, which causes a short in the circuit board. The board gets overloaded if you leave it on, and the fuse blows. No fuse means the unit stops working completely. You can replace...

So mad I could spit!!!

So mad I could spit!!!

Purchased this tool refurbished. Blades were so dull it wasn’t funny. couldn’t even run balsa wood thru it, LOL. So I bought the Deulen Jig to resharpen the blades because I figured refurbished the blades wouldn’t be very good to start off with so I planned ahead. Just to set this rant up for you folks, I work as a mechanic in a power plant making all kinds of repairs. I’ve been doing this for over 25 years and have had my share of bad fasteners. I did try to plane som...

Old Reliable

Old Reliable

This review is for a saw that I’ve been using almost daily for a little over four years now. I purchased the DW718 after using the DW708 for over nine years. Out of the box I noticed that the base had grown a bit, but still had 110 degrees of miter settings and the same simple to adjust detent plate. I found this to be a plus after witnessing what some of my peers experienced while reclibrating some of the other manufactures mitersaws. From my experience the only time I’ve had an...

Dewalt DW735

I have really worked this tool for many hours lately and am totally impressed with its performance. It is pricy but has received a number of best product recognitions in magazine articles in their plainer reviews. It’s easy to adjust and feed wood through. You must use a vacuum system with it! It’s 13” wide capacity should cover most boards you want to plain down.It has a three knife cutter-head which helps extend the life of the knife. The blades are easy to change and t...

Well built, reliable, great performing machine

Well built, reliable, great performing machine

I bought this planer about a year and a half ago and it has served me very well. The cutter head lock has pretty much eliminated snipe. The only time I get it is if I try and feed a wide board though without first jointing one face. (I know this is not the proper way, but if a board is short and wide, won’t fit on my jointer and I’m taking off 1/4” I figure I can flatten it quite well by continuously flipping it around). The blades on this planer apparently aren’t ...

Great saw with a few annoyances

Great saw with a few annoyances

12-06-2009 12:37 AM by Webb | 13 comments »

I have had this saw for about two years now and use it regularly. I have not yet bothered making a sled for the tablesaw since I tend to use this for anything narrower than about 14”. Note you can cut boards as wide as 16” but it requires messing about with the fence which I have not bothered to do. The saw does eat up a lot of space; you need a lot of clearance on the sides plus it needs a substantial clearance behind the saw. The price for the capacity I guess. I have not per...
