Nice Addition for a DeWALT TrackSaw

Nice Addition for a DeWALT TrackSaw

03-25-2013 12:04 AM by scarpenter002 | 2 comments »

For Christmas this year, I purchased a DeWALT TrackSaw (Review pending) and decided to add on the Router Adapter. I purchased it from Woodcraft, as they had all the items I wanted and also a 10% off sale in December. I paid $53.99, saving $6 with the sale. Shipping:The box was direct shipped from DeWALT and arrived in great shape via UPS. CompatibilityThis attachment not only fits most DeWALT models, but also has adapters to fit the Porter-Cable 690 & 890. UseI have only used t...

Great & Quiet Portable Belt Drive Compressor

Great & Quiet Portable Belt Drive Compressor

07-21-2009 01:55 PM by Cato | 9 comments »

When I discovered that my loud old direct drive unit would not supply enough air to run my new framing nailer I started searching for a portable belt drive replacement with a 4 or higher CFM @ 90 PSI, which is supposed to be adequate for framers. I wanted a belt drive because I knew they were quieter, and I couldn’t stand the noise of my old one. I searched on the web and found this compressor to be highly rated by contractors, and it was supposed to be very quiet with plenty of pow...

Heavy, Heavy Duty, and a Very Good Performer

Heavy, Heavy Duty, and a Very Good Performer

After getting a Jointer, I realized very quickly that I should have gotten a planer FIRST. I was able to flatten a board, and joint an edge, but that is something that I can do fairly easily with hand planes. thicknessing that board on the other hand is sometimes a bit more challenging to do by hand – especially when you have multiple boards to mill. Price I have limited funds, and so visit craigslist often for tools. I was actually not expecting to find the Dewalt 735 in my budge...

A real workhorse

A real workhorse

I’ve had this planer for almost 2 years now so I’ve had plenty of time to make up my mind I think. I got it as a package with the add-on tables and an extra set of blades. Out of the box all I needed to do was get the tables attached and it was ready to go. One thing to know going into this you need something to direct the chips off of it. The chip blower REALLY works and wood chips will be flying all over. I made the mistake of using it without anything and it looked like a torna...

Mobile storage for less

Mobile storage for less

The DeWalt TSTAK is the yellow and black competitor to the Festool/Tanos Systainer and Bosch/Sortimo L-Boxx. There doesn’t seem to be much of a retail presence at the moment (although Woodcraft seems to have begun carrying them, and highlighted them as a 2014 Fathers Day gift idea). So after a lot of online research, I procured a few of these units (the long-handle I, flat top II, and 2 drawer IV) because I found them to be on average, 30-50% less per unit than it’s competitors....

Shelix Replacement Head Too Small in Diameter

Shelix Replacement Head Too Small in Diameter

12-12-2015 07:54 PM by greatview | 15 comments »

I replaced the stock head in my DW735 with a new Shelix spiral head. It seem as if the Shelix diameter is slightly less that that of the stock head. I had to remove the blades in order to pull the old head out as they were a larger diameter than that of bearing and I couldn’t remove it intact. The Shelix head goes through the bearing seat thus is smaller that the diameter of the stock head. Clearly the entry side is closer than before. In other words, I have to crank down the u...

Dewalt DWD112 - A satisfactory tool.

Dewalt DWD112 - A satisfactory tool.

I’ve been using battery powered drills for several years now and have grown accustomed to the cord free nature and the power characteristics, but my two aging Craftsman drills are showing their age and were not up to the heavy duty demands of screwing up the ceiling in my garage so Saturday morning it was off to Canadian Tire and Home Depot I went. Looked at the generic brands at CT and decided if I was going to spend about $80 I may as well get a name brand drill. CT didn’t have...

Precise and Versatile TrackSaw

I purchased this Dewalt TrackSaw kit last year for Christmas. I purchased this specifically for larger projects that require sheet goods, such as the New Yankee Miter Saw Bench & Cabinets I am building. (See my blog here.) Shipping:This tool was shipped directly from Dewalt Due to the length of the 102” track, it was shipped via freight. There was some confusion in the shipping process. requiring me to contact the local freight company to schedule delivery. The saw was atta...

Shelix cutterhead for DW735

Shelix cutterhead for DW735

10-27-2014 12:24 AM by johnstoneb | 10 comments »

I bought a DW735 planer about a year and a half ago. The knives were starting to get some nicks in them and time rotate then. I decided after talking with somebody at the local woodworking club that had changed to a Shelix cutterhead to do the same. I ordered the cutterhead direct from Byrd. Price was only about $10 more than Amazon and freight was less. so price worked out about the same. The cutterhead was well packed came with four extra cutters , the tool to change the cutters and...

Old Reliable

Old Reliable

This review is for a saw that I’ve been using almost daily for a little over four years now. I purchased the DW718 after using the DW708 for over nine years. Out of the box I noticed that the base had grown a bit, but still had 110 degrees of miter settings and the same simple to adjust detente plate. I found this to be a plus after witnessing what some of my peers experienced while recalibrating some of the other manufactures mitersaws. From my experience the only time I’ve had ...
