This compact router kit easily exceeded my expectations for a compact router kit of this size and price range, read on and find out why. This DW7670 is DeWalt’s 8” stacked dado blade set. It features (2) 24 tooth outside cutters, (4) 4 tooth 1/8” chippers, (1) 4T 1/16” chipper, (1) 4T 3/32” chipper, (12) steel shims, and a handy carrying case. The DW7670 expands to a maximum cutting width of 29/32”, and has a nearly infinite number of possible smaller widths by using the various shim and chipper sizes. All the teeth are C-4 micrograin carbide, and the bore diameter will fit 5/8” arbors...

Out of the box, I'm thrilled

Out of the box, I'm thrilled

When I began pondering the purchase of a thickness planer, I researched Fine Woodworking and saw that the DEwalt 735 was rated the best. My plans were to purchase this model when I decided it was time. As many of you likely read, I was drawn in by the helical head Steel City, and had some issues with it out of the box. As I said in that review, maybe I got a one-off lemon, but nonetheless, I wasn’t that impressed. Fortunately Chris from Highland Woodworking, where I ordered the ...

DEWALT 12 In. 96T Ultra-Smooth Crosscutting Thin Curf Saw Blade

I was looking around for a new blade for my DW718 SCMS and I was wondering around Lowes and spotted this beaut. So I took it home and put it to the test. The first thing I noticed was how quiet it was when cutting through the wood. It leaves an incredibly smooth and clean cut. It cut perfect miters on hard maple in the first pass. It says it cuts nonferrous metals so I cut some copper tubing and it made a nice smooth cut leaving little tear out but you better wear eye protection. Then ...

DeWalt DW735 Heavy-Duty 13" Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer

I have had the opportunity to use about 4 different planers. I owned a Ryobi 12.5” for about a year and returned it because rollers wouldn’t work, They bought a Ridgid and it lasted about 3 months, same problem (Ryobi, Ridgid, and Milwaukee are same corp) Finally I bucked up and bought Dewalt after seeing this at the wood show. However I am not the average weekend woodworker being a shop teacher so minimum duty tools just dont’ cut it for me. I also had a Delta 12.5”...

Planer..the only one I will ever own

Planer..the only one I will ever own

This planer is awesome. It is pricey, but I personally feel you get good value for it. I have seen it for $599 – $699. I paid $599. So shop around. This sucker is a beast. I mean heavy. For my shop it sits on a rolling cart that is much larger than the planer. I saw recently a guy who built a portable stand for his and it was no much wider than the planer itself. I cringed at the thought of it catching on a wood chip and falling over. I assure you once it starts falling there is n...

Ergonomics Make this Router Stand out in the Crowd

Ergonomics Make this Router Stand out in the Crowd

I have read the reviews for all brands of routers that appeared in woodworking magazines or online. I have used Hitachi, Freud, Craftsman, Dewalt, and other routers. I have carefully inspected Porter Cable, Ridgid, and Makita. The fixed base is lower profile than any other 2-1/4 hp router on the market. This low center of gravity helps when forming an edge. The plunge base action is “gorgeous” as described by a fine homebuilding magazine review. The router tied for 1st place with ...

I purchased the Dewalt 734 today from Lowes for $399.00. I have been looking at both the Ridgid 13” and this Dewalt. I have it fiqured out that these are pretty much equal products. Why did I choose Dewalt ? Simply because I was worried about the ability to find replacement knives for the Ridgid. I also like the manual lock on the Dewalt and I am also a little po’d with Home Depot because they would not honor their on- line price in the store which was 369.00 vs. 399.00. (Wi...

DeWalt DW734 12 inch thickness planer

DeWalt DW734 12 inch thickness planer

I’ve had this planer for about 2 years now and have run lots of wood through it. From easy stuff like aspen to nastier stuff like ipe and purpleheart. My overall experience with the tool has been excellent. I don’t know how I got along before I got a planer. The DW734 is the lower end of DeWalt’s “lunchbox” planers. The fancier one being the DW735. This planer has three knives, of the disposable variety. They are “double sided”. When the k...

Dewalt Radial Arm Saw

Dewalt Radial Arm Saw

I got this saw from a local news paper ad, I have had a number of craftsman radial arm saws, didn’t really care for them to much, kinda cheap made !, But now mine were newer saws and i know the old ones were real nice. This one was built in 1960-1962. It wasn’t in the best shape in the world so i dissmantled it and restored it, motor bearings, wires, switches,ETC. Avery nice saw, very acurate !
