2 Great Glue Brushes - Rockler and Betty Crocker

2 Great Glue Brushes - Rockler and Betty Crocker

06-10-2013 02:45 AM by Denco | 9 comments »

I bought a Rockler glue brush and it works great, just as advertised. When the glue dries, you can peel it off. Easy to clean, spreads well. However….I was in the dollar store one day and they had Betty Crocker basting brushes….for a buck each. My curiosity got the best of me (you know where I’m going with this). I decided to do a comparison….head to head….for the title of “Best Glue Brush”. I trimmed the Betty Crocker brush so the bristles (?) ar...

An EXCELLENT dust collection solution for a small shop

An EXCELLENT dust collection solution for a small shop

05-01-2013 11:17 PM by StumpyNubs | 30 comments »

We did a whole series of episodes on Blue Collar Woodworking about the importance of fine dust collection. Our solution was a homemade cyclone and six inch duct work. But I am also a realist. I know not everybody has the room or the budget for a system like that. A lot of shops are mobile and the dust collection has to be easy to swap between machines. So I did some testing and I think the Rockler Dust Right system is the best option for a number of reasons. The following three video revie...

Stumpy Nubs Entertaining Review: Rockler Bench Cookies & Accessories P1

We are producing a new video series which takes the concept of tool reviews and adds a bit of “info-tainment”. No, this isn’t a song and dance kind of thing, it’s a serious tool review, done in a not so serious way. I love to watch tool reviews, but I rarely watch a review just for the sake of watching. I hope this new format changes all of that! You may already own the tools, you may not care about them. But the videos themselves are worth watching! Anywho- The fol...

NOTE: This is part TWO of this review. I couldn’t seem to post four videos on one review page. Please see part ONE here before viewing part two. The third video features the sawhorse clip attachments… And finally the finishing cone accessories… Now, in case you didn’t get it from the videos, here’s my written review of the Bench Cookies and Accessories: I love these little hockey pucks, and not just because they have the word “cookie” ...

Blast gate problems

Blast gate problems

03-10-2013 08:05 PM by bear2 | 8 comments »

I recently purchased two 2 ½ inch blast gates from Rockler so that I could split my tablesaw from my floor vacuum. After installation I found that with one gate opened and one gate closed my vacuuming power was reduced by more than half. The gates leaked significantly in either the closed or opened position and rendered the system useless. For a small system the small gates are of little value, for a larger more powerful system larger gates may work.

Problems and fixes

Problems and fixes

One problem is that because its made of 2 pieces of plastic glued together it will break apart at the seam. You can try to glue it back together but it soon comes apart again. (This is an update 40 days after the first post. Walmart sells a 3pk of generic super glue for 89 cents. I glued it up and clamped it lightly over night. It seems to be holding up fine.) Other than that, I love this thing. It will move the fence thousandths at a time, allowing you to sneak up on a precise cut. If ...

Can it get any easier than this??

Can it get any easier than this??

I always dread the time when I have to sharpen the blades on my jointer. For some reason I can never get the blades back in just right. Rockler put this jig on sale from $33 to $25 so I picked it up. When it arrived I was surprised to find that it is all metal, no plastic, and well made (for what it is). Each leg has two magnets on the out feed side and one that picks up the blade. Using the jig is simple. You have to find TDC for the cutter head and you mark that on the fence. I punche...

Rockler 34193 Pizza Blade cutter Kit

Rockler 34193 Pizza Blade cutter Kit

01-20-2013 01:56 PM by John Truffa | 3 comments »

I’m a crafter and have made many pizza cutters using the Rockler Kit. No one comes near it it for durability and craftmanship. I use cocoblo for the handle. To keep the handle from cracking when inserting the threaded insert I put a ferrel on the end (same size as the one that comes with their ice craem scoop). I’ve been looking for a plastic blade cover to no avail! If anyone can lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I called Rockler but they couldn’t hel...

Floor mats are a good value but not the best I've used

Floor mats are a good value but not the best I've used

12-30-2012 10:23 PM by mbs | 7 comments »

I purchased two sets of floor mats from Rockler because they were on sale and I got free shipping. Each set was $20 for 20 square feet (6 pcs) which is pretty cheap at $1/sq. ft. I place them around my workbench but I don’t put them in front of my table saw because they could be a trip hazard. I’ve used these for years at my other shop so while I only gave them 4 stars, I like the value enough to buy them again. They provide some cushioning to the feet and protect tools that...

Rockler Table Saw Fence Micro Adjuster

Rockler Table Saw Fence Micro Adjuster

12-15-2012 06:14 PM by mbs | 8 comments »

I purchased this adjuster to make very fine adjustments on my sawstop table saw. The base is magnetic and the magnets are pretty strong. I’ve modified my review since I took another look at the device. This unit doesn’t work properly on my Sawstop because it needs to sit directly where the scale indicator sits. I looked at Rockler’s website and some people have made extensions to compensate for the interference. I’m not sure if I want to mess with it or not. ...
