Almost a really good clamp

Almost a really good clamp

05-27-2014 01:38 PM by mramseyISU | 4 comments »

I recieved these clamps as part of a Mini Clamp-It set with two of the assembly squares which work really well and 4 of these clamps. I’ve had them for a little over a year and up until recently I really liked them. About a month back I was using them and as I tightened them down I noticed that the threads on the clamp were all bottomed out but they weren’t tight. That was funny I thought and then I noticed that the head was coming off of all of them. The flaw on these clamps is t...

Rockler Pencil Set

Rockler Pencil Set

I am not trying to fuel the never-ending debate on marking devices…...pencils, marking knives, scalpels, etc But, I ordered 3 of these Rockler Lead Holders……Rockler calls them “Cabinet Maker Pencil Sets….. and I really like them I am now down to using just two marking devices (not including marking gauges)….just pencil-type stuff. I either use these Rockler Lead Holders…..or I use the pocket knife with the disposable blade…..and then I can go as light or as deep as I want an...

Good idea - bad design

Good idea - bad design

At one time, I had a Wixey digital guide on my table saw. It could tell me, to .001 of an inch, what the distance was from the blade to the fence. I discovered that knowing the exact distance was not as important as having the ability to adjust the distance easily in very small increments (i.e. micro adjust). I have micro adjustment capabilities on my router lift and router fence and I really like them. This tool allows me to micro adjust my table saw fence. It’s a good idea...

Rockler Shelf Pin Drilling Jig (Review)

Rockler Shelf Pin Drilling Jig (Review)

Have you ever noticed holes , neatly in a row, on the inside of many book cases and cabinets? Have you ever wondered how they might have gotten them so straight, and evenly spaced? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t. I never really gave it much thought until I decided that I may want to attempt to build something that needed some adjustable shelving. This jig is one way that a do-it-yourselfer may be able to add those adjustable shelves to your project! It is a shelf pin drillin...

Cookies in the shop . . . mmmm.

Cookies in the shop . . . mmmm.

So, I’ve been eyeing these silly things for about two years now wondering how would I use them and would it really be worth having. Well, I finally picked up a set at Rockler on sale for $8 last week and decided to use them for finishing a top to an end table. My old Unisaw serves double duty as a workbench/finish assembly talbe in my garage so I put down newspaper and the table top sits on the cookies. What I noticed was now nice it is to lay down wipe on poly on the surface and just ...

I purchased this Rockler Bench Cookie set as an impulse buy about a year ago. This purchase has proven to be my best impulse buy to date. Everyone in my family loves using the bench cookies, including the wifey and my 2 year old daughter who keeps trying to steal them, so she can do curls. I’m going to split my review into the 4 components. What I will say, is that while the set is awesome, if you find you only want the cookies and/or the cones (like me), you may be better off buying...

Rockler Table Saw Fence Micro Adjuster

Rockler Table Saw Fence Micro Adjuster

12-15-2012 06:14 PM by mbs | 8 comments »

I purchased this adjuster to make very fine adjustments on my sawstop table saw. The base is magnetic and the magnets are pretty strong. I’ve modified my review since I took another look at the device. This unit doesn’t work properly on my Sawstop because it needs to sit directly where the scale indicator sits. I looked at Rockler’s website and some people have made extensions to compensate for the interference. I’m not sure if I want to mess with it or not. ...

2 Great Glue Brushes - Rockler and Betty Crocker

2 Great Glue Brushes - Rockler and Betty Crocker

I bought a Rockler glue brush and it works great, just as advertised. When the glue dries, you can peel it off. Easy to clean, spreads well. However….I was in the dollar store one day and they had Betty Crocker basting brushes….for a buck each. My curiosity got the best of me (you know where I’m going with this). I decided to do a comparison….head to head….for the title of “Best Glue Brush”. I trimmed the Betty Crocker brush so the bristles (?) ar...

Makes Glue-ups Much Easier

Makes Glue-ups Much Easier

There are certain conveniences in life that once you get used to them, it’s very hard to go back to the way things used to be. I think Rockler was first on the scene with the silicone glue accessories, and I’m happy they did. A few notes on these and some others out there. The glue tray is probably the most irreplaceable. I used to squirt glue on a scrap of wood and then toss it when I was done. Now I reach for the glue tray, and I can clean it with water when I’m d...

Mostly does what they claim

Mostly does what they claim

I picked up one of these over the weekend, and am pretty much pleased with it. The current price ($3.99) is introductory, so grab ‘em while they’re cheap. Pros: Currently dirt cheap for what they do. They pretty much do what they’re advertised to do. So-so While waiting for it to dry, it does drip. Easily solved with a bit of scrap or blue tape to catch the drips, but forewarned is forearmed. Cleanup is not quite as easy as advertised. After the glue dried...
