Precise Repeatability for Multiples

Precise Repeatability for Multiples

I am currently building a set of 6 Arts & Crafts chairs as designed by Kevin Rodel in FWW. I will be doing a project posting soon, but wanted to recommend a tool that really helped me on this job. In order to reduce individual fitting and trimming of all the joints, it is necessary to make mortises in the same place on each piece. With this jig, it’s easy to do. The tall back leg has 5 mortises, half of them angled. I was able to set up the jig, and place the mortises so the teno...

Rockler Thin Rip Tablesaw Jig

Rockler Thin Rip Tablesaw Jig

I know allot of you have made your own version of a thin strip ripping jig. I fiddled with making one and was in too much of a hurry to get my project going. I looked at this one online and liked the design and it was only $19.99 with free shipping. As usual Rockler shipped it out right away, and it was on my doorstep 4 days after I ordered it. They also accept Paypal now which is really convenient. It comes with simple instructions on the back of the box. The whole device is made out of pheno...

Rockler Exotic Cutoffs 10 lbs. Assortment

Rockler Exotic Cutoffs 10 lbs. Assortment

1194 days ago by BreakingBoardom | 29 comments »

So with money being tight lately and starting to work on some smaller projects, I decided to take the plunge and buy a 10 lbs. box of assorted exotic cutoffs. The reviews on the Rockler site have been mixed with some happy and some unhappy. I guess what it probably boils down to is what your expectations are going in. I was expecting some small pieces of exotic species that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford separately. Others said the boxes were mostly Purpleheart and Padauk wh...

Too much hassle for not enough stability

Too much hassle for not enough stability

I think Rockler Rocks! but with this one – they hit rock bottom. I have seen a friend having issues putting this mobile base together some time ago, and figured it’s not worth the hassle, but came upon one today myself. I picked up a shaper, and the guy (to which I am grateful) threw in this mobile base for free. The Bad!Out of the box (actually even before that) it is stated that you are responsible to providing the lumber which will size the mobile base – no worries,...

Rockler Table Saw Outfeed Table Needs Help

Rockler Table Saw Outfeed Table Needs Help

1490 days ago by FJPetruso | 1 comment »

I purchased the Rockler Table Saw Outfeed Table & was pleased…. at first. The initial assembley & set-up wasn’t bad & it worked well. But I soon found that if I used the outfeed table for any thing other than an outfeed table, like an assembly table or what ever, it couldn’t take much weight or vibration or the wood screws that hold the outfeed table to the saw would come loose & the top of the table would drop down some & then be slanted downward towar...

Rockler Lathe Dust Hood Item 67899

Rockler Lathe Dust Hood Item 67899

I’ve found this clear lathe dust collection hood very useful. It take a little bit of planning when setting it up on a lathe such as extending the tail stock support out to make room for your tool rest support and it helps a lot to have a flexible work light that can be kept low & to the rear of the lathe. This keeps the glare off of the flip-down clear shield making it easy to use, see photo. I made a wooden bracket out of the scrap end of an oak newel post, also see photo. The...

Clamps for glue edge boards

Clamps for glue edge boards

396 days ago by jerrells | 5 comments »

I do a lot of glue edge board glue-ups and was looking for a better and faster clamping system. My old one required four hand clamps and 4 cauls and did a fine job but the set up was very time consuming. After receiving some money for father’s day, I decided to give these a try. I must admit the guys at the local Rockler store were not helpful with any recommendations on the product. Also, at least my box came with NO instructions at all. Now I did have in mind what I wanted to accomplish ...

Highest quality pizza cutter I've ever seen

Highest quality pizza cutter I've ever seen

1062 days ago by Eric_S | 5 comments »

I decided to pick one up from Rockler after Lew’s great review. These things are no joke, a little pricey at ~$20 though. I’ve owned many pizza cutters and most are lightweight, blades wobble, or the blades are just crap. Not to mention that the blade is always off center. This one has none of those issues. Its the heaviest pizza cutter and kitchen utensil I own, solid stainless steel I believe. The blade is in the center with thick rubber or plastic washers on both sides ...

One and Done!

One and Done!

I bought these bench hold fasts from Rockler. One moderate tap with my mallet and it broke. I had another one, same issue. Extremely poor quality and not worth a cent. I expect better from Rockler than this PoS. I think the Taiwan stamp says it all.
