Excellent grinder for the money.

Excellent grinder for the money.

When I had decided on the Wolverine jig system for my tool sharpening needs, I more or less knew I needed an 8” grinder as the wheels on my 6” were pretty narrow… Upon reviewing the recommended grinder speed on the owners manual of the Wolverine Jig System (Page 1, lower right hand corner), and seeing that THEY recommended an 8” 3450 rpm grinder, I decided to do a little digging on what grinders I wanted. I see a LOT of folks going with the multi speed, and slow speed ...

Ryobi 18v Impact Driver

Ryobi 18v Impact Driver

07-14-2009 06:10 AM by JMG | 12 comments »

I bought this impact to replace an old DeWalt driver. I got the driver, a compact drill, 2 compact lithium batteries, and a charger for only $179 instead of a new DeWalt impact with no battery for $279. Sounded like a good deal so I jumped on it even though the Ryobi’s torque didn’t come close to the DeWalt(880 in/lbs for the Ryobi and 1,330 in/lbs for the DeWalt). The Ryobi struggled to drive lags into the old petrified wood of the house I was adding the deck on. It also bogg...

Good Price! Get what you pay for!

Good Price! Get what you pay for!

I bought a starter kit, at my local Home Depot, about a year ago and it is great. The package I bought included A Cordless Drill, A Impact Drill, A Circular Saw, A Radio, A Vacuum, A Reciprocating Saw, and A Sander. I have had only a few problems with it, but for my first set of tools, it is a great set. Problems that I have had include the chuck sticking on the Impact Drill. I wish this kit came with another battery and charger, but I went and bought the extra two batteries and charger. I wo...

Best used Tool I ever purchased

Best used Tool I ever purchased

I got this Ryobi 1300 Planer 3 years ago…I took a shot at it for $100 used, but actually almost new…the owner passed away just after buying it, and his wife sold it to me, I would have given her more, but that’s all she wanted. I have the box, receipt, EVERYTHING!I’ve had a Delta, and and an ole General…I gotta give this Ryobi the props though…and it is the ONLY Ryobi tool I own…I am not a big fan, but this older 1300 is a great design. The lock is...

Great planer for what it is, and what it costs, lacking finer features.

Great planer for what it is, and what it costs, lacking finer features.

Well, after 2 and a half years of trouble free service, I figured I should write up a review of my Ryobi AP1301 planer for you folks. Like many other owners of these planers, I have found the lack of infeed and outfeed support annoying, at least at first, and it DOES snipe if you just shove wood through it, and let it just dangle out the back end. I have found that supporting your lumber by hand as you feed it in, and take it out of the planer takes care of the snipe issue almost completel...

Not a bad little mini-driver but would look for the TEK4 version

Not a bad little mini-driver but would look for the TEK4 version

I have been looking for a mini-driver that I could put in my pocket for small tasks around the shop and assembly work. I have the Ridgid 18v cordless for the larger tasks but it is sometimes a pain in the hip (literally) to have on my holster. Since I pre-drill all my holes before adding fasteners, I just needed a light duty driver for screws. This would give me the flexibility of having a drill already prepped with a bit for drilling and another set for driving. I didn’t want to invest...

Ryobi Tek4 headphones....GREAT buy!

Ryobi Tek4 headphones....GREAT buy!

So this is a must buy! I had just purchased these at The Home Depot at $60 and its worth every penny! I thought they were just regular headphones with a built in radio but then I tried it on and turns out it doesnt have a radio but it shuts out loud noises and magnifies the small sounds! I tested it out and I could still hear my radio as I was running wood through my planer! AMAZING! And not only that but it comes with a 4V battery and charger! You can also connect your MP3 player to it to li...

Cheap and does what I need it to do

Cheap and does what I need it to do

I picked this up at Home Depot a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I only have a benchtop table saw. That means no cross cutting or ripping sheet goods. There is only 6” in front of the throat, and anything that small gets cross cut on my sliding miter saw. So why on earth would I buy a 40.00$ saw? Well, read below. I will say this has seen some fairly heavy use in the past few weeks. Here are my observations: 1 – The blade. This is a large reason why this saw got 3 stars. Out of t...

Great Tool and Even Better Customer Service From Home Depot

Great Tool and Even Better Customer Service From Home Depot

12-05-2012 11:50 PM by NormG | 10 comments »

Wife purchased an additional smoke detector and Carbon Monoxide Detector today, which required me to get out the drill. I received this as a gift last year after my prior drill of 10 years died. I really do not need much more than this as I really do not have a need. So it meets my needs. It is comfortable to hold and use, the battery life is very good, as is the ability to perform as a drill and driver and general uses as a flap sander, wire wheel distress-er etc . I use it in the sho...
