Set of four Eng Squares

Set of four Eng Squares

One of Blondie’s Christmas presents to me was this awesome set of squares. They are an extremely accurate set of squares that are particularly valuable when I’m setting up my power tools. It is boxed set of four Engineer’s Squares. There made by the engineering firm in India. They come a in a So/So box, however the box is not what I was interested in so I couldn’t take a star for that. They come wrapped in plastic with oil applied. There on sale and I’m not sure you...

Gimlets

Gimlets

This is the 1st time, and NOT the last that I will use these handy-dandy “Gimlets”. The 7 different sizes are a gr8, and quick way to make a threaded starter hole for the 7 different sized screws. I just used the smallest of the set to attach the buttons for the backs of a few picture frames. Very simple, and ez/breeeezee. These are made in France, and very affordable. You can see em at this link: http://www.garrettwade.com/set-of-gimlets-7/p/37J03.04/

The Chisel Doctor (Honing Guide)

The Chisel Doctor (Honing Guide)

While going nuts for a long long time over sharpening chisels, & plane irons, I came across this USA made honing guide from Garrett Wade http://www.garrettwade.com/the-chisel-doctor/p/58A01.01/ It’s a little expensive, but, I don’t think too badly at 45 bux. It is very well made with dual wheels instead of the type that has a single wheel in the middle, 2 brass knurled knobs very nicely counter sunk, and a very nice coating of wrinkle paint. The Chisel Doctor is well worth ...

Garrett Wade Aluminum Straight Edge 38 inch

I just received a Garrett Wade aluminum straight edge 38 inch and wanted to post a review. First, years ago Garrett Wade had lots of woodworking tools, but seem to have cut way back lately. I looked at their steel straightedges last year, but the quoted tolerances were awlful ( IIRC .0005 per inch ) The aluminum straight edge is quoted at .002 over the whole length, which is pretty good. I have a granite surface plate that allowed be to check up to about 20 inches at a time, and could n...

Incredibly Straight, Incredible Value.

Incredibly Straight, Incredible Value.

Well, the title just about says it all. I’ve been getting more in to hand tools (seems we all are) lately and the construction grade level and HD 12” combo square were just no longer straight enough. I needed an actually straight reference edge that I could trust and to be honest, was a bit skeptical of the price on these (~ $20 Shipped). After getting it, I can say I would highly recommend it. It’s the straightest tool in my little shop and gives me the confidence I nee...
