Grizzly 17" Bandsaw

Grizzly 17" Bandsaw

12-08-2009 03:13 AM by LesB | 14 comments »

Last week I received my new Grizzly G0513X2B Extreme 17” 2hp w/motor brake bandsaw. I researched a lot of saws and for the money this seemed to be the best buy. I ordered it four weeks ago but it was back ordered. Grizzly was very good about keeping me informed of when it would ship and made adjustments for my schedule. In between the date I ordered it and received it the price dropped by $125. ($1075.00 + shipping) Grizzly responded immediately to my email request that they re-write...

Grizzly "Knife" Belt Sander - Model G1015

Grizzly "Knife" Belt Sander - Model G1015

I’ve often wished I had a narrow belt sander for finish details on some of my projects and for free hand shaping. My old 10” Delta band saw had a belt sander attachment kit that I used a few times. It worked fairly well, but was cumbersome and took a lot of time to change over, so it got little use. But, it did the job when I really needed it to. I’ve also used my jig saw with a narrow sanding plate mounted in it for some work and that works all right, but not well. The...

Grizzly Oscillating Spindle Sander

Grizzly Oscillating Spindle Sander

12-05-2009 05:43 AM by rjcshop | 5 comments »

Every time I work on curved parts I wish I had a decent spindle sander. I use the drum on my edge sander or belt sander, or small drill press mounted mandrel sanding tubes or a small sanding block mounted in my jig saw, but these are always a pain with minimal or no dust collection. I used an oscillating spindle sander years ago in a commercial pattern shop and really liked it but I didn’t think I had room or budget for one. But, having recently saved a ton of money by building some ...

12” Grizzly G0609X spiral head jointer An LJ friend asked if I could do a review on my 12”spiral head Grizzly jointer. having never reviewed a large piece of machinery before excuse me if I miss details but I’ll give it a go. I have owned my 12” jointer For about a year. When delivered I had lift gate service and a couple of small dollies made by HF rated at 1000 lbs since This jointer is rated at about 1050 lbs. It was packed well in a nice wooden crate and took some time to uncrat...

Great saw. The Grizzly G0690

Great saw. The Grizzly G0690

This is a great saw. $1250.00 no shipping, no tax. 3hp, riving knife, left tilt, bessimeyer style fence, solid construction, three belt, 240v. In the pic, I used some weather stripping to seal the motor door, better dust extraction, also seal the lower pan in the cabinet. I ordered the Heavy Duty Shop Fox base by mistake. The base is too big for this saw, so I cut 2 1/4 from the long rails of the base with a recip saw and a metal cutting blade. The result is a much heftier base than the...

Grizzly G1014Z Modifications

Grizzly G1014Z Modifications

11-22-2009 03:06 AM by khop | 3 comments »

Well, I took the time to modify two things on my new G1014Z sander. First I removed the switch assembly and simply turned it around. I put the switch in front and the wires in back. This makes it much easier to access the switch. Second, I moved the backstop furthur back closer to the disc roller above the platen. You can see where I drilled and tapped for the mounting bolt. I was amazed the mounting bolt was actually a common 5/16 thread. This modification let me pick up another 3” of ...

Grizzly G0656 8" jointer a good buy.

Grizzly G0656 8" jointer a good buy.

Late last winter i had a friend who flew down from here in Alaska to the lower 48 to pick up a truck he had purchased. He was driving it back up and was going through Washington so I had him stop by the Grizzly Warehouse to pick up a few things for me. One was the Grizzly G0656 8”x72” jointer with mobile base that they had for $795. When my buddy arrived we backed his truck into the shop and using some pipes and a rope tackled slid the box containing the jointer table (the heav...

Another GRIZZLY

OK I couldn’t help myself. When I ordered the G1071 OSS sander, I went ahead and got this one too. Might as well round out the total order to a grand right? I had always wanted to get a larger beefyer belt and disc sander. I still have the old Delta 6×36 which will be used for pencil sharpening. lol. Now on to the pros and cons. Pros, IT”S A GRIZZLY, Heavy and very stable, strong and definately an upgrade from the Delta. It has good dust collection. Cast iron disc and tilt...

Another Great Grizzly Product

Another Great Grizzly Product

11-10-2009 01:54 AM by khop | 11 comments »

I finally ordered the new OSS from Grizzly. As pictured, it was very heavy and once again, my electric hoist came to the rescue. At around 300 pounds, it is built like a tank. The unit came well packaged with thick styrofoam around all the pieces. There was ample amounts of the famous goo on most of the exposed metal parts. A little mineral spirits and a cloth rag cut through it qiuckly. I was fortunate to have the hoist to lift the top into position as well as lift the whole unit onto the mo...

Cheap, but Workable

Cheap, but Workable

At $22.95, this plane is dirt cheap, and as such I was fully expecting to have to do some work on it in order to get it into usable condition. The only other plane I have is a Stanley SB4, which is apparently a British version of the #4 (weird that I got it at Lowes a couple of years ago). That plane is shown in the second picture I attached to the review, and it should be evident what the major issue with that plane is – the two screws that control depth of cut. Rather than having a...
