My tenon making solution

My tenon making solution

10-09-2014 01:33 AM by CharlesA | 4 comments »

I’ve made tenons using several different methods. I had avoided buying a tenoning jig because it seemed like an unnecessary outlay of funds. I could make them by hand, with the bandsaw, or using a dado blade on the table saw. But for whatever reasons, I always have been a little frustrated by how they came out. I ended up doing way too much fine tuning with chisel/plane/sandpaper. So, I bit the bullet and purchased the Grizzly tenoning jig through Amazon, $88.59. I was annoyed...

Great performer. Zero problems. 5 stars.

I bought the Grizzly G0690 about 6 months ago and feel like that’s enough usage to talk about my thoughts. It’s a damn good saw. I don’t have any major complaints after using it for this long. Just a couple nit-picky things that I don’t think justify bringing this down from 5 stars. After comparing prices on similar spec saws I would definitely buy this saw again if I had to do it all over. Pros:strong motorgreat fencelarge cast surfacebest value compared to other b...

Horizontal Boring Machine

Assembled my G0540 Single Spindle Horizontal Boring Machine and thought I would post some of my observations and opinions. Machine was packed well and pretty easy to remove from crate, assembly was very easy and instruction were there and quite clear if needed! The washers were the wrong size not a big problem.I found that for my purposes the table should raise higher so will have elevate it in the future when I find the time. The X -Y feature works very well with the exception that the table...

This is a summary of my experience in purchasing, assembling and using this machine. I began by attempting to place my order on-line, but the choice of lift gate service was not available on the web site. I then called Grizzly and the gentleman who assisted me was going to show me where I missed it. However, I apparently did not miss it, it was not on the web site for this product. The order taker was quite courteous and completed my purchase. I ordered this unit on a Wednesday and was ...

Grizzly G0582 24: Wide Belt Sander

Grizzly G0582 24: Wide Belt Sander

07-03-2014 02:10 PM by BoardSMITH | 7 comments »

After two months of hard use I feel somewhat qualified to write a decent review. So here goes. Crating and packing – Blah, blah, blah, etc… Delivery – Blah, blah, blah, etc… Instruction manual – Blah, blah, blah, etc… Fit and finish, Blah, blah, blah, etc… Now that all the fluff is out of the way. I purchased a Grizzly wide belt sander because I was unable to find another on the market of that size. My budget would handle a 24̶...

Never again will I trust Grizzly for "Precision" equipment

Never again will I trust Grizzly for "Precision" equipment

I just had the biggest hassle of my life when I got the grizzly 8 inch spiral head dovetail jointer. It took me about three months before I actually got a chance to unpackaged my purchase and then it took me another three days to get all the Schmutz cleaned off of it from the being sent from overseas. I thought to myself boy this is going to be awesome 8 inch helical cutterhead for less than half of the price of a powermatic. Once I finally got the machine set up I put a straight edge on i...

First impressions of the Anniversary Edition G0555 14" Band Saw

First impressions of the Anniversary Edition G0555 14" Band Saw

After nursing along my Dads old Craftsman 12” band saw, I was really looking forward to getting my new saw. After much research and pricing I had settled on the G0555LANV 14” for a number of reasons. It had a 1 HP motor where several others in the price range were 3/4HP. It had a cast iron frame and table instead of cast aluminum and stamped steel. The wheels were cast iron instead of cast aluminum and it had two speeds. But one of it’s biggest selling features to me was the...

Something this heavy should work!

Something this heavy should work!

This is a poorly designed sander. You would think that if a tool weighed as much as a submarine, it would be steady worker, but the Grizzly GO458 takes a break about every 30 minutes and decides to adjust itself where it wants to be.Seriously, it has many design problems. The feed belt will only stay in adjustment while you are watching it. It must be a quantum physics thing. After about a half hour of sanding, when your hands and mind are fixed on keeping it from sniping your work, because the...

Good Value for a Downdraft Sanding table

Good Value for a Downdraft Sanding table

04-02-2014 04:25 PM by tme4tls | 3 comments »

Last year I had a real problem breathing when I had to do prolonged periods of sanding during the winter months with the shop closed up tight to retain heat. I first though about getting a Trend Airshield but the weight sitting on top of my head during use wasn’t very comfortable so I started thinking seriously about a downdraft table. I wanted the Denray brand but the prices were more than I could afford and looked at the Grizzly models. Grizzlys pricing was more affordable and th...
