It Sucks...And That's a Good Thing

It Sucks...And That's a Good Thing

2 days ago by Matthew Parker | 4 comments »

I’ve had this DC for 9 months now and have emptied the barrel 4 times which should give you an idea how much I use the thing. Another key point about my usage is that I don’t have any ductwork. I connect the DC directly to the tool I am using at the time. I have it hooked up to a 110v 30A outlet which has not tripped during my use. Another reviewer said that this DC could suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch. While that is clearly hyperbole they made the point well. I ha...

When It's Working... It's Great

When It's Working... It's Great

3 days ago by Matthew Parker | 9 comments »

I bought this saw in September 2012 and have used it extensively since then and feel that it’s time for a review, especially after the most recent incident. First of all when the saw is working correctly it is great. I get great looking resaws with both 1/2” and 3/4” blades. I have not used it for many curves such as you would do for a bandsaw box so I won’t evaluate it there. I setup the saw based on the instructions in this video why Grizzly does not outline ...

Grizzly Drum Sander

Grizzly Drum Sander

25 days ago by GuyK | 15 comments »

Last Saturday I and about 1000 other woodworkers went to the tent sale at Grizzly in Muncy, Pa. I made a small purchase of some glue and drill bits and just spent most of the time there looking at tools that I didn’t have in the shop. One tool that I looked at while there was the Grizzly G1066Z 24” Drum Sander. I was really impressed by all the features it has and the quality of the tool. After coming back to the shop and discussing with Chairman of the Board ( no not my wife ) th...

Grizzly T10128 15-in. Spiral Cutterhead on ShopFox 1723 Planer

Grizzly T10128 15-in. Spiral Cutterhead on ShopFox 1723 Planer

32 days ago by wbrisett | 5 comments »

It was time to purchase new blades for ShopFox 1723 15-in. planer. I started thinking about the price of sharping the blades and the price of a spare set of blades and then wanted to see what sort of price I could get on a spiral cutterhead. I’ll be honest with you, I’ve wanted one for a while now. I loved the idea that you didn’t have to replace the entire blade, only the cutters that needed it, and you didn’t have to do that until you had turned each three times, ...

Grizzly 16” G0660X Jointer / Planer Combo

Grizzly 16” G0660X Jointer / Planer Combo

I had difficulty assessing the relative performance of this machine since the machines I have the most experience with are not in the same class (bench-top versus floor machines). The only J/P that I have any hands on experience with has been the Jet JJP-12 and that was limited to a hand on dealer demonstration. The only full size machines I’ve used were those I used nearly 40 years ago in high school and a friend’s old Delta cast iron monsters. Thoughts regarding how this machine compares to...

Grizzly is unbeatable for the money.

Grizzly is unbeatable for the money.

Without a dial indicator and thousandths of an inch feeler gauge there is not a perceptible inaccuracy with this saw. Out of the box it is as flat and square as can be seen without a micrometer. It cuts flat the fence is square the miter gauge sucks but is good at 90 and 45. Vibration is null everywhere. I can cut 3/4 inch birch at midnight with an ultra thin kerf blade and the sound of the saw at my curb is a whisper. Also, it looks like a beast because it is, 400+Lbs of metal and torque. ...

Grizzly G0656P 8" Jointer - Great "User" Machine with Minor Flaws

Grizzly G0656P 8" Jointer - Great "User" Machine with Minor Flaws

As the title of this post suggests, this is a review of Grizzly’s G0656P 3HP 220V 8” Jointer. Some of you may have seen my initial post claiming my joy over purchasing this jointer and a G0703P DC system and the subsequent shipping issues UPS had delivering it. I won’t rehash any the shipping issues but if you are interested in reading about it, check out the comments within my original post by clicking here Packaging————————...

Grizzly G0690 even with problems still good value

Grizzly G0690 even with problems still good value

Based on many of the reviews I have read, the Grizzly G0690 Cabinet saw was the best bang for the buck. As there have been many reviews given I will only add a few comments to those that I have read. The saw arrived without a ding, dent or missing part and went together well. I was very disappointed with wiring as it appeared to be only 14 gauge wire with a 220 plug configuration I had never seen. I had my electrician rewire it completely with 12 gauge wire and use a more conventional tw...

My Griz G0715P

My Griz G0715P

Delivery: Took 5 days. I paid Grizzly the extra $34 for lift gate service which gets your saw off the back of the truck and onto the ground. At this point they are done. Grizzly said that I would have to call the freight company (UPS) to get a quote to get it inside the garage. UPS quoted me $199 to wheel it in, but encouraged me to chat with the driver first. In other words she was trying to tell me that the driver would probably just do it for me, and he did. Customer service was ve...

Grizzly 1023RLW 10" 3 HP 220V Table Saw

Grizzly 1023RLW 10" 3 HP 220V Table Saw

I received this saw about a week ago. I must say, whoever built this saw, must have just come back from a long and relaxing vacation. It was built perfectly. The powder coat was spot on, no overspray to be found. The build date shows to be late January 2013 so it’s fresh off the boat. That may be why there was very little cosmoline to clean up. The packaging was very good and shipping went without a hitch and no damage to either of the boxes. Assembly went without difficulty; the instructi...
